Girl, 16, dies after hijab dispute with father

The father has been charged with murder.

An update on the story immediately below. By Rob Roberts in the National Post (thanks to all who sent this in):

The 16-year-old Mississauga girl who was allegedly strangled by her father in a dispute over her refusal to wear the hijab has died.

Aqsa Parvez, a Grade 11 student at Applewood Heights, succumbed to her injuries late last night, Peel Regional Police said today.

The girl’s 57-year-old father, Muhammad Parvez, has been charged with muder. Aqsa’s 26-year-old brother, Waqas Parvez, has been charged with obstructing police.

Friends believe Aqsa...was the victim of a dispute over the teenager's desire to be more western.

“She wanted to live her life the way she wanted to, not the way her parents wanted her to,” classmate Krista Garbhet told the Post this morning.

“She just wanted to be herself, honestly she just wanted to show her beauty, and not be pushed around by her parents telling her what she has to be like, what she has to do. Nobody would want to do that.”

And many years in prison for her Islam-addled father

"Friends believe Aqsa...was the victim of a dispute over the teenager's desire to be more western."

Gosh, when my kids were teenagers and we got into heated arguments everybody usually went to bed or left the house for a little while to cool down afterwards. No one ever ended up dead.

I think we should change the "popular" catch phrase from "Flying while Muslim" to "Dying while Muslim." For all those who whine and cry that this is a cultural thing and that these poor people are misunderstood, ever notice how these killings only happen to the girls in the family? No one ever pitches a fit if the boys dress western, (except of course if one lives down the street from Ahmadinehad,) but the girls end up dead. Interesting form of justice. Would somebody here like to try and rationalize it for me? Because honestly, it is pretty clear who is doing the killing and why. It's always, ALWAYS, Muslim immigrants who kill their teenaged girls for disobedience, not Chinese Buddists, Southern Baptists or Irish Catholics.

This is why the hijab should be outlawed in the west.

Only the law can protect these girls from their sick evil fathers and brothers who murder them.

If their was a law against wearing it there would be no murder here.

Islams laws do not protect women.

Among the comments following the story is this one,at 5:29 p.m., written by Saba, a non-Muslim Muslim:

"This comment is to Dana and other Muslims who try to confuse the Western public by claiming because they're Muslim they know everything about the religion. These people claim without a doubt that Islam is a religion of peace, love and freedom of choice. I am also a Muslim who has had 8 years of solid theological study and yet choose not to practice it. I realized very soon that this so-called religion of peace is more violent than you can imagine. There is no respect for the human life when the good of the community is under question. Just a few points concerning Islam and this tragedy.

1. In the Qur'an it is clearly indicated that "Men are in charge of women" (Qur'an, chapter 4, verse 34). Obviously many Muslim fathers feel that they are in charge of their daughters lives even in adulthood until they're safely married off to other devout Muslim men who then can take charge.

2. Wearing the hijab (headscarf) is NOT a choice. In Islamic sunna (tradition of the Prophet) it is clearly stated that the Prophet himself indicated at least on one occasion that women should cover every part of the their body except for their face and the palms of their hands in loose, opaque garments. Thus often times Muslim women do not have a choice when growing up in Muslim communities and even if they're blessed with reasonable parents they are pressured into making the "right choice" by their communities.

3. Islam and freedom of choice are not compatible. In Islam the good of the Islamic community always supersedes the good of the individual and his/her choices and expression of individuality. So if a father feels that the good of his family is being threatened by the expression of individuality of a daughter he is pressured into rectifying the situation.

4. In Islam the crime of apostasy is punishable by death. So if a person for instance decides they no longer want to practice the faith or they no longer believe in God their crime is grave enough to be punished by death. So it may be in the case that this tragedy is the result of a father taking divine justice into his own hands.

5. Finally Dana, in your scenario a western male who kills his cheating wife in an outburst of rage isn't necessarily a practicing devoted Christian he's not killing his wife because of his religion. He is killing her because of his own rage and jealousy. Believe me whenever religion is a factor (be it Christianity or Islam) it gets mentioned. For instance, we all heard about Christian parents asking for the removal of Harry Potter books from public school libraries because they supposedly promote witch craft. Was that an attack on Christianity? I don't think so. It was clearly the fact of the matter which put the story in context. This case clearly involves a practicing Muslim taking divine justice into his own hands and committing a crime in the name of Islam (rightly or wrongly) and thus it needs to be mentioned to put the story in context. Why are you Muslims so defensive and insecure about your religion? Is it because maybe there are in fact shortcomings in it?

6. I thank the God-I-don't-believe-in that we will never have Sharia courts in Ontario.

Long live secularism."

What are Muslim apologists going to do in the Western world? Threaten, attack, murder every last Muslim who dares, like Saba, to tell the truth to the Infidels?

And then, what will they do about the outright apostates?

It must worry them.

it's tragic to see this happening in pakistan. this I'm pleased to say could never happen in the west.

If Capital punishment was not abolished, her father should be hung. Another terrorist attack that can be chalked up at TROP.

This story never happened. Does anyone believe that a devout Muslim, a follower of the Religion of Peace, could savagely strangle his own daughter to death in a dispute over her attire?

Father Knows Best.

The devout son:

Waqas Parvez, has been charged with obstructing police.

Surprise, surprise.

Posted by: Prickzilla [TypeKey Profile Page] at December 11, 2007 11:15 PM

Poor, poor girl.

Remember her name. Write it down. For her murderous family will be busy erasing it from their memories.

On All Souls Day, light a candle for her.

Perhaps some Canadian jihadwatchers/ dhimmiwatchers could consider sending a brief, politely worded letter to the high school she used to attend, expressing condolences to her teachers, classmates and schoolfriends. Mention Taslima Nasreen, Wafa Sultan, Nonie Darwish and Ayaan Hirsi Ali and suggest gently that Parvez' non-Muslim classmates, especially the girls, should read these books if they want to know why she was murdered.

If you live in the area or nearby, see about donating suitable books to the 'Applewood Heights' school library, or to the municipal library, with attractive bookplates inscribed "In Memory of Aqsa Parvez". Perhaps a set of the "Persepolis" graphic novels? If you're REALLY bold, try slipping them a dvd of 'Submission'.

The editor of the local newspaper should be getting a mountain of letters explaining exactly why this has happened, citing the appropriate pages of Spencer's 'Truth About Muhammad' and 'Guide to Islam and the Crusades', or something from 'The Caged Virgin', along with a couple of the key Muslim texts and theologians on 'hijab', as referenced by khaybar oasis in the comments when this story first broke on dhimmwatch.

Peel Regional Police and the hospital that tried to save her life, should perhaps also receive similar letters; as should all womens groups who cover family violence.

What, too, of the Muslim ladies - I think there were some? - who protested AGAINST any recognition of sharia law in Canada?

The trial should be closely observed and letters to the editors of newspapers covering it, should pour in from Canadian students of Robert Spencer.

If Canadian (Ontario) jihadwatchers/ dhimmiwatchers are on the ball, this could be a "teaching moment" - especially for Ms Parvez' non-Muslim classmates - and then perhaps Aqsa Parvez may not have rebelled in vain, even though she was killed for it.

Let her death show people the truth about what Islam does to women; what it does to families, to fathers, mothers and children.

If Canada had any sense, the girl's father and brother should be stripped of their citizenship, if they have it, and deported - which part of the Ummah they got to land in, would be selected purely at random, they would get a one-way ticket, bye bye. Not execution, but living death.

If it were made plain that any Muslim caught killing anybody, in a non-Muslim country, for such imaginary 'crimes' as non-Islamic dress, 'apostasy', 'blasphemy', etc., would be booted out of the country and NEVER allowed back in nor permitted into ANY other non-Muslim country either, they might think twice.

Muslims call Mississauga, 'MUSLIM SAUGA'. Liberal Canadians keep giving muslims all the visas like there is no tomorrow while muslim staff in Canadian embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan refuses visa to Christians of Pakistan.

Omni is a channel that carries ethnic shows in the Toronto and surrounding areas and small towns. As such around 8pm is the South Asian News edition.

What I found disgusting was that they made the whole story sound like a "South Asian" issue, not a muslim one and they totally spinned it so that one would think this is common practice in all brown homes, whether they be Indian, Pakistani or Bangladeshi. Not too surprising though since the show is run by a muslim.

I am Brown, but I am not Muslim. I have nothing in common with these people and I am getting a petition ready to be signed by Hindus to stop including us with these barabrians when it comes to the news reporting about their barbaric acts. The question was about her wearing the Hijab and Western culture. It is the Muslims who have Hijabs and issues with western culture. Hindus don't have these issues and we assimilate very well in every country we live in. There is a HUGE difference and for this channel and its show to portray it as a South Asian thing was complete nonsense.

Reminds me of some muslim girls I dated in high school and college and the struggles they faced. I wasn't suprised to hear some of them ran away from their homes.

No Islam: know peace.

(May her "father" find the hell he deserves.)

Posted by: profitsbeard [TypeKey Profile Page] at December 12, 2007 1:22 AM

That poor lovely girl, (I saw her facebook picture) her only crime was she so wanted to have a normal Canadian life like her friends, loved fashion and design, clothing, shopping, hanging with her friends, all the things normal young Canadian teen girls want to do. (what a rebellious little tramp, eh!) Her extended family had been making her life hell for months about her not wanting to wear the jihab, so much so that she had moved out, and when returning home to retrieve her belongings, she was murdered. From what I've seen, she would most likely have become an ex-muslim and an apostate. The family JUST COULDN'T BEAR THE SHAME OF THAT, NOW COULD THEY?

Apparently, there were three generations living in that house. Not ONE came to defend or rescue her. Pakistan (the origin of these families) is one of the top in number of countries that immigrate to Canada. I can pretty much guarantee that (like Britain) we are going to see a LOT more of this crap happenining. I hope the only silver lining about incidences like these is that more Canadians wake up to what Islam is all about (such as Islam not exactly being a "religion" of "peace") I wasnt to throw up a little when typing that, and see the need to, like exsgtbrown says "ban muslim immigration".

Posted by: j_not_a [TypeKey Profile Page] at December 12, 2007 2:54 AM

BAN MUSLIM IMMIGARTION!!

How long till the followers of the black stone start trying to enforce this on non-Muslims?

Posted by: Crusader [TypeKey Profile Page] at December 12, 2007 4:21 AM

Very slightly O/T, this is regarding Taslima Nasreen.

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Taslimas_books_sell_like_hot_cakes/articleshow/2615982.cms

Resistance is never futile.

Now back to the issue of the dead girl in Canada.

I have always found Canada to be a strange country, polite, civilised a bit like the Switzerland.
Boil in Summer freeze in winter !
However for some strange reason it is the only country in the world in which I have ever visited one of the "Gentlemans clubs" you know the type where scantilly dressed females dance on and around a pole.

Anyway about 10-12 years ago I was in a club in Toronto (with the President of an Indian Temple)
and there was a very attractive dancer who looked Asian/Indian. I got taliking to her and asked her why she did it.
Her reply ?
Dad wanted her to wear the veil and travel to Pakistan to marry one of her cousins. So she left Alberta came to Toronto, became a dancer to pay her way through University.
What a great result.
(sorry guys I do not have the address of the club, she is probably a CEO of a large FTSE 100 company now anyway)

Regards

At the rate Islam is spreading around the world, it will not be long before non-Muslims will be forced to follow such laws. Before it is too late, non-Muslims had better wake up and stop from taking over the earth. All means should be used to prevent that from happening.Muslims

Well, it was encouraging to see that CBC Newsworld covered this story, this morning.

And then....they trotted out the "Professor of History," who assured the audience that this was a possible case of religious fundamentalism that can affect all faiths--Christian, Hindu, Bhuddist.

The Canadian public will likely never hear or read the words "honor killing."

Posted by: Farah [TypeKey Profile Page] at December 12, 2007 8:44 AM

"I don't want the public to think that this is really an Islamic issue or an immigrant issue," said Mohamed Elmasry of the Canadian Islamic Congress. "It is a teenager issue."

Teenagers have for centuries been doing battle with their parents over a multitude of different issues, so to make differing views about the hijab a central issue of conflict is a mistake, said Atiya Ahsan with the Canadian Council of Muslim Women.

They can try to spin this away from Islam all they want, but the central fact remains: her father murdered her because she was trying to get away from the stifling oppression of Islam.

Is this their idea of damage control of the public perception of their religion? If anything, their denial of the cause of this tragedy and their seeming desire to marginalize it does nothing but heap more disgust upon them.

I feel awful that this happened in my country, and I hope that bastard rots in jail.

"As set forth herein, CAIR is not a civil rights organization but is instead a political organization designed to advance a political agenda that is directly opposed to the existence of a free society that includes respect and dignity for all people and all religions.

The copyright infringement herein is part of this plan. CAIR’s fundamental purpose is to be a lobbyist for foreign interests."

This is part of the Lawsuit that Michael Savage has against CAIR. I think that this girl's father exemplifies exactly what this "religion" plans on doing to all of us who will remain out of its control.

I remember my Mom telling me that when she was a teenager in the 1940's, growing up in an immigrant-Italian household, her father had slapped her across the face for wearing slacks on a date. This is horrendous by our standards, but that's what he did --- and also where he stopped at. In time, he adjusted entirely to American ways.
I also remember my Mom telling me that MY father had once slapped her across the face, when they were newly married, in the early 1950's because she had a male visitor. Her cousin's husband had come over the house when my father wasn't home and my Mom was alone. She said that after the verbal thrashing she gave my father for slapping her, he never violently touched her again. This is the American way.
By the time I was born, girls smoking cigarettes in public was still considered unladylike and my Grandma had once made a comment that it wasn't feminine for a girl to play guitar -piano was OK. (Of course, I went on to become a professional guitarist).
This is normal life in Western society, with all of the generations assimilating into the freedom that our country represents.
The murderous father of this poor girl should be PUBICALLY EXECUTED as an example to all those who think it is OK to hurt women, FOR ANY REASON.I hope that there is such an uproar over this that Canada thinks twice before setting the standard by which such an atrocity could occur.

Posted by: ElizaDoolittle [TypeKey Profile Page] at December 12, 2007 6:57 PM

This is normal life in Western society, with all of the generations assimilating into the freedom that our country represents.

Amen. And while freedom includes freedom of religion in Canada, it doesn't mean one gets to force their religious rules on others (and I'm beginning to think that this should apply to one's children as well).

Anyone writing letters to Canadian newspapers, politicians, etc, in connection with the Aqsa Parvez case, could do worse than include printouts of the two newspaper articles about Muslim vigilantes murdering women in Basra for being caught out in public with 1. make-up on and 2. no headscarf. See Dhimmi watch 5/12/07, 7.13 am, and Jihad watch 10/12/07, 7.54 am.

Just to make it quite clear that Parvez' father, far from being an aberration or an isolated case, was acting in conformity with attitudes that exist, and are loudly expressed and violently enacted, elsewhere in the Muslim world.
