Here is yet another example of a Muslim saying something that, when Western non-Muslims say it, quickly brings on the "Islamophobe" charges.
From the Turkish Daily News (thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist):
Islam undoubtedly requires women to cover their heads, Turkey's head of religious affairs said yesterday in a statement that coincides with the current discussions on lifting the headscarf ban in universities."As long as a woman says 'I am a Muslim,' she should cover her head," Professor Ali Bardakoğlu, president of the Religious Affairs Directorate, said in an interview with the private NTV channel.
"Discussions on the necessity of wearing headscarves or head coverings are of a legal and political nature. In religious terms, there is no doubt that they should," he said, adding that Islamic rules, dating back centuries, are unalterable.
"Politicians may forbid or allow the wearing of headscarves," Bardakoğlu said. "It is not my duty to tell them what to do," he added. "Whether Muslim women abide by the rule is up to their will," Bardakoğlu said, noting that the headscarf dispute can be solved with dialogue between political parties.

I really wish they'd make up their minds on this. Is the headscarf required by islam or isn't it?
The headscarf should be banned in public in every western nation. At the very least, young girls like Aqsa Parvez would be alive today. If she had been able to say to the worm that was her father, "Hey, I can't wear my head covering to school, or even outside the house, it's against the law", then there would have been no argument and no reason to kill her. Not to mention all the bogus and annoying episodes of girls complaining about being ousted from sports events because of their head coverings. Ban them now!

""As long as a woman says 'I am a Muslim,' she should cover her head," Professor Ali Bardakoğlu, president of the Religious Affairs Directorate, said in an interview with the private NTV channel."
....if she says "I am a Muslim", and refuses to cover her head, she risks the penalty of an honor killing....(i.e. most recently the two young girls killed by their father for not covering their head)....
....Islam....feel the love?...
Ban Muslim Immigration.

I understand that headscarves for school girls were banned in Turkey up to now. Sounds like a complete reversal of the secular Kemalist laws.

"Whether Muslim women abide by the rule is up to their will." Of course if they choose not to, they are considered prostitutes.
When Wafa Sultan was asked what she liked about living in America, she said that she could walk anywhere, anytime and not be called a prostitute.
Apologists may claim that wearing giant Hefty bags is a choice, but in the case of Islam, choice is just a meaningless word.

"Whether Muslim women abide by the rule is up to their will."
And it is up to the will of their fathers, uncles, and brothers how long they get to "abide" at all after that.

By the time the "waiting period" is up for EU membership, Turkey should once again be a full-fledged, islamic hell hole. Maybe that's why the sagacious elities in the EU required such a long waiting period---they wanted to make sure Turkey was sufficiently islamic before allowing it to become a member. A few million supremacist, militant Turks overrunning Europe will be just like the good old days.
Although it hasn't yet happened, it appears that history is about to repeat itself. The only difference is that the next Turkish invasion will be by invitation.
