Just another day at the office for the UN Human Rights commission. "Arbour backs plan that seeks end to Zionism: UN human rights czar supports controversial pan-Arab charter," by Steven Edwards for The Ottawa Citizen (thanks to Sounder):
UNITED NATIONS - Louise Arbour, the United Nations high commissioner for human rights, has thrown her support behind a major pan-Arab human rights charter that commits to the elimination of Zionism. Some critics say the wording is code for the destruction of Israel, but in a statement from her Geneva headquarters, the former justice of the Supreme Court of Canada welcomes the Arab Charter on Human Rights, which will come into force in mid-March.
"Regional systems of promotion and protection can further help strengthen the enjoyment of human rights, and the ... charter is an important step forward in this direction," Ms. Arbour says.
While the document demands respect for a host of internationally recognized human rights, its references to Zionism concern leading human rights activist groups, including Amnesty International, International Commission of Jurists and UN Watch.
The charter's preamble speaks of "rejecting all forms of racism and Zionism," alleging they violate human rights and threaten international peace and security.
Article 2 of the 53-article document says "all forms of racism, Zionism and foreign occupation and domination" should be "condemned and efforts must be deployed for their elimination."
"These provisions cannot be dismissed as harmless rhetoric," says a letter UN Watch sent Monday to Ms. Arbour asking her for a "clarification" of her support for the charter.
Indeed not. They are a figleaf for the jihad.

Why again did Israel feel the need to trust this organization with its security after Olmert bungled the 2nd Lebanon war?

From UNHCHR Website:
"Throughout the development of the Arab Charter, my office shared concerns with the drafters about the incompatibility of some of its provisions with international norms and standards. These concerns included the approach to death penalty for children and the rights of women and non-citizens. Moreover, to the extent that it equates Zionism with racism, we reiterated that the Arab Charter is not in conformity with General Assembly Resolution 46/86, which rejects that Zionism is a form of racism and racial discrimination. OHCHR does not endorse these inconsistencies. We continue to work with all stakeholders in the region to ensure the implementation of universal human rights norms. "

That was Arbour's statement from 1/28/08 concerning the arab (sub)human rights charter. Look before you leap!

Arbour awful.
This snake has an atrocious track record. If Orwellian swine like her are entrusted with 'human rights' then you know which way the wind blows!

If she really stood behind that statement, she should never have endorsed that Arab Charter.

Funny how these arabs are against racism but only when it's against them. The constant racism and descriniation that non-Muslims, and non-arabs feel in islamic nations is clearly missed.
I have heard testemonies from Bengali Muslims saying how rotten the arabs are to them.

the former justice of the Supreme Court of Canada welcomes the Arab Charter on Human Rights, which will come into force in mid-March.
Since when? Why? How?
Dumbo stated:
From UNHCHR Website:

This concern, by
the former justice of the Supreme Court of Canadaflys in the face of what I thought was Canadian law prohibiting extradition of criminals facing a death penalty sentence. This suggests that Louise Arbour finds an Islamic decreed death penalty acceptable . . .stoning perhaps? Beheading?
The charter's preamble speaks of "rejecting all forms of racism and Zionism," alleging they violate human rights and threaten international peace and security.Oh, does that mean that Jews, Christians, Hindus and kuffar can now visit or live in Mecca?
The "magnificent 19" could have aimed for Turtle bay and saved us all a lot of grief.

When will there be a U.N. Committee that seeks the end of the U.N.?

Honestly, I could care less about this woman, but the truth does matter to me, no matter which way it cuts. She may have said some diplomatic words that broadly endorsed the Arab "less than human rights charter". Come on, you can't talk like Michael Savage or write like a blogger in a diplomatic environment. If she publicly said she has reservations about it, then I can construe it as meaning something deeper. She is not out there with Hamas launching rockets in Gaza.

When the rabidly anti-Semitic U.N. is criticised by the moderately anti-Semitic Amnesty International, you know the U.N. has gone too far. Fox #2 is criticising fox #1 for being too greedy and going after all the chickens in one night, as opposed to just taking one per night.

Not sure, but I know that there should be a U.S. committee that seeks to get the United League of Nations off our soil, and withdraw our country from it. I can't believe that such a corrupt and hateful organization exists here, paid for in large part by our tax dollars.

'Foreign occupation and domination'
Let's see now, what 'foreign agency' is now occupying by stealth and attempting to dominate the West.
Does not the attempt to reinstate the Euro-Caliphate equate with 'Zionism' but on a vastly larger scale?

>>Article 2 of the 53-article document says "all forms of racism, Zionism and foreign occupation and domination" should be "condemned and efforts must be deployed for their elimination."
I guess that means that the Muslims need to clear out of all the lands that they are occupying, i.e., that they have stolen from all of the people of those lands.
Some examples:
The land of Israel. You stole it from the Jews and Christians in the 8th Century.
Egypt. You stole that from the native Egyptians, many of whom were Coptic Christians. You are still oppressing the Copts and committing crimes against humanity against them.
Lebanon. You forced a decent human being named Brigitte Gabrielle to flee her homeland. Apologize to her and restore her home to her, as well as to all of the other Christians you sent into exile.
Constantinople. Not only did you steal this from the Christians, but you now persecute the Christians living there.
I could go on and on.
If the Muslims would obey their own declaration of Human Rights, it would be a very good thing. Problem is, their rules apply only to others, not to them.
