Draw a picture offensive to Muslim extremists, and you might find yourself without a roof. Ask Kurt Westergaard, one of the twelve Danish cartoonists whose autumn 2005 Muhammad caricatures lead to violent protests throughout the Muslim world. He was booted from his police-protected hotel room on Feb. 15 for being "too much of a security risk." And now the 73-year-old cartoonist and his wife are without a place to live.Westergaard was forced to leave his actual residence in November after the Danish security and intelligence agency, PET, informed him of a "concrete" plan to murder him, according to the paper that originally published the cartoons, Jyllands-Posten. Westergaard and his wife have been living under police protection since....

I agree GrennBeck; this is an outrage. He's too much of a security risk to bother protecting? It that what we think of free speech and western values in general? They are too much of a security risk to bother protecting? Let's just give in to the Muslims and throw a hijab over our women so we don't risk causing any offense.

Not entirely off the topic, but I used to be a cartoonist at a newspaper way back in the day, and I remember drawing what I thought was an innocuous, silly cartoon involving a monkey on trial, with a prosecuting attorney grilling him on the stand, asking him in a sneering and condescending tone: "Just how DOES a weasel go *POP* Mr. Simian?"
My how the local Guardians of Upright Thought anguished over that one before deciding that the public would be reading possible racist overtones in the one panel, one line toon. Kurt Westergaard has topped me with but a mere image and no punchline! With death threats, body guards and now, homelessness! You have arrived at the pinnacle of your career, dear Mr. Westergaard and I salute you and invite you to come to the Greatest Satan on Earth!

Seconding Hugh's suggestion.
Queen Margrethe should make him a Knight (do Danes do Knighthoods? - if not, perhaps the idea of a Danish Knighthood should be revived ASAP) - and get the Palace Guard and security staff to give him weapons training.
His wife could be employed as a senior matron of honour.
All freedom-loving Danes should be petitioning their Queen to place this courageous citizen under her personal protection.
Failing that, the Catholic and /or Lutheran Archbishops should screw up the courage to give him sanctuary in the archiepiscopal residences - and pay for a security detail.

Which part of the article gave you the impression that KW is to lose his police protection?
The bit about no hotels wanting to rent him a room is amply embarrassing to the Danish nation, but rest assured, he will remain under police protection until the threats against him have subsided. That's the way this country works.

could you please explain or clarify the situation with regard to one of your citizens Kurt Westergaard.
As you will be aware from your own security apparatus he is under sentence of death (Fatwa) from certain sections of the Muslim Community.
I read in Der Spiegel that he has been evicted from his hotel room and is now homeless. He cannot
even live in his own house because of the threats to his life !
Can I suggest that your government gives all support to this brave man who's only crime is to utilise his freedom of expression in a democratic country.
All steps should also be taken to apprehend the insane lunatics who want to kill him over a drawing !
I look forward to some clarification from yourselves on the issues raised above

Please take it easy, it is not as bad as it seems. When Juland Posten published this they were inundated by offers of help from people with summer houses and even some large hotels. Kurt was never in danger and the Danes are not and I will say it again Dimmis. I might not agree with how some of the small hotelier have reacted but I find there reaction reasonable. If a small hotel and there are plenty dotted around Denmark is the only means of income for a man and his family is it any wonder they look to there livelihood. A Molotov cocktail only cost a couple of dollar and there is no way of protecting yourself against one. If you are a big hotel chain you can take such a calamity. It is also not a big deal offering your summer house as a hiding place you are not going to be homeless if somebody fire bomb it.

To your information, the people behind the most recent murder plot against KW have actually been apprehended. The case started rolling with their apprehension, and that's why there's a story in Der Spiegel in the first place.

@eric, I am positive the Danish Police and Police Intelligence are already doing the best they can. But even if they weren't, sending e-mail to the Danish embassies around the world would not change it one bit.
And you're definitely not calling attention to an unknown danger - we learned tha lesson during Cartoon Rage I.
If anyone needs to be informed about the dangers of kowtowing to Muslim extremists, I don't think it's the current Danish administration, or the Danish people in general. A few celebrities and left-leaning individuals continue to tolerate the intolerance of Muslim hard-liners and their crazy demands for special treatment, but they are not the norm.
Try telling the arch bishop of Canterbury or Louise Arbour instead.

They are more than welcome to stay at my house, i live in the country near the sea, which my goverment describe as "Hideously White"
1 : offensive to the senses and especially to sight : exceedingly ugly
2 : morally offensive : SHOCKING
the down side to this, is it is safe ! Well for the time being anyway, they are trying to inrich our lives with mass/ bus loads of muslims and trying to build a mosque.

We have a stockpile of food, medical supplies, weapons, ammunition, razor wire, tear gas, and spare parts. All you have to do is cook an occassional meal and help defend this place when the muslim hordes start advancing in their final Jihad assault.
You see, even OUR government doesn't fully recognize the threat. But there are plenty of individuals who do. We know what will be required. Join us. And tell your story.

texan, why don't all those Americans who are "stockpiling" also get out there and protest en masse, in the thousands, whenever a mosque goes up, or an Islamic "center" is accused of money laundering, or some Muslim spokesman in the Deep South says something outrageous, or a Muslim does "Sudden Jihad", or shadowy Islamic paramilitary training centers are uncovered to be in existence in various spots all over the US (Hyattsville, Maryland; Red House, Virginia; Falls Church, Virginia; Macon, Georgia; York, South Carolina; Dover, Tennessee; Buena Vista, Colorado; Talihina, Oklahoma; Tulane Country, California; Commerce, California; and Onalaska, Washington. Others are being built, including an expansive facility in Sherman, Pennsylvania), etc.
And where is our Million Infidel March on Washington?

Shameful. Funds for the cartoonist's protection can and should be obtained by confiscating the property of known "radical" (i.e. faithful) Muslims and deporting them, as well as deporting in general any Danish Muslim who is a public charge (i.e. unemployed).

He is.
Lots of us, including myself, made offers of housing for him. I got a very polite reply from Flemming Rose (the editor at Jyllands-Posten) thanking for it. He took a different offer and is now fine.
Westergaard, who's 73, will be haunted by this for the rest of his life. That's how it goes in this game, and he's accepted it, moving from fear to anger. He was very touched by the deluge of helpful offers.
Jyllands-Posten, of course, did what every respectable newspaper would do, published it. That's another snub at the Islamists who again failed to scare us.
