Sharia Alert from the Islamic Republic. "WITNESS: "Hijab problem" sparks police standoff in Tehran," by Fredrik Dahl for Reuters (thanks to all who sent this in):
TEHRAN (Reuters) - Wearing a brightly colored headscarf and high-heeled boots, the woman refused to be bundled into the police van without a fight.Protesting loudly and even trying to escape, her standoff with Iranian police cracking down on women violating the Islamic dress code lasted several minutes.
But the outcome of the drama shortly after dusk on a cold winter's day on Tehran's most famous boulevard was never in doubt.
Two female police officers in head-to-toe black chadors pushed her into the white vehicle which then drove off into the bustle of tree-lined Vali-ye Asr Avenue.
"Hijab problem," one male onlooker said, referring to the clothes women must wear in Iran to cover their hair and disguise the shape of their bodies to conform with Iran's Islamic laws.
Based in Tehran for the past year, I have often written about police detaining women who challenge the dress codes that have been more strictly enforced under President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
But this was the first time I saw it happening.
To judge by the passers-by who stopped in the lamplight on the snowy pavement, or the people peeping out through the windows of the neighborhood grocery store where I was buying milk, my curiosity was shared.
The dark-haired woman, who appeared to be in her 30s, argued in a high-pitched voice with a burly, bearded male police officer towering over her in his green uniform.
When his female colleague put a hand on the woman's shoulder to lead her into the van, she angrily pushed it away and shouted. Then suddenly she turned and tried to run away.
She did not get far. The two female officers grabbed her and shoved her into the police vehicle. The door was slammed shut and the van disappeared into Tehran's evening rush hour....

Total and complete Barbarians. They are inhuman.
Mohammed has done this. The most evil man in history, equivalent to Hitler and Stalin and Mao.

Franz Abu-Kafka is laughing from some an absurdist afterlife.
THE TRIAL lives on.
And on.
And on.
Mad rules and madder rulers.

No wonder she resisted , Iranian jails tend to be rather unhealthy places. She could develop a 'medical condition' that would result in a fatal stroke...it has happened before , I think in that case the persons name was Zahra Kazemi.

Where are the so-called American and Western feminists? Why are stories like this not front page news with feminists howling about this in Western democracies? A show of solidarity against this blatant oppression could work wonders!

God save this poor, brave woman. A culture is judged by how it treats its most vulnerable, and a cop and two old hags ganging up on someone whose body is 98% covered is cruel and stupid.

Puritanical Fascism.

Where is Project Runway when you need it?
We just seen the retirement of one of the most horrific tryants in history (Castro), but I don't believe his police ever arrested someone for not covering their hair,
That's not to excuse the Castro regime, but it does indicate why Sharia Law must be opposed at any level.

I cringe when i think what they're going to do to this woman in jail. Is there any way to find out who this brave freedom fighter is? I doubt it.

Does anybody else remember seeing that samizdat Iranian video, shot from a passing bus, of a statuesque and proud young woman punching hell out of two chador-clad harpies who'd objected to the tilt of her headscarf?
I wonder what happened to her?

I would like to see these morality police patrol the corridors of Westminster.
Might wake up a few politicians.

This is why I am skeptical about the supposedly innocent civilians of the mohammedan countries.
Mohammedans can set up "no-go zones" against the police, in places where they comprise a fraction of the population, France, Holland, Scandinavia, England, etc ...
But in Tehran, where everyone is mohammedan, they stand around and watch while things like this happen.
Not a single member of the crowd even lifted their voice, much less a hand, to defend that woman.
Publish a Mo-Toon and there is chaos and death in the street.
Throw a woman into a van and cart her off to jail and suffering for wearing the wrong scarf ... and you can hear the crickets chirping in the silence.
These people are innocent?
These are the people I'm supposed to worry about when somebody contemplates military action against Iran?
I don't think so.

Everyone always asks where the American & European feminists are - we're right here!
I confess I do watch "America's Next Top Model" (it's my guilty pleasure, ok?? I can't read depressing world news all the time!) This season they have a Somali girl on there who has spoken out publicly on the show about her own genital mutilation, in graphic detail.
I realize it's a small step, and that it's basically "trash" tv... but... it's mainstream, and it's something! It's highlighting a sickening crime against women.
The struggle to wear what amounts to "colorful chains" (in my opinion) is still a struggle I think we need to champion. One tiny baby step closer to liberation. Haven't we even heard some of the Imams saying that women's lib is just a tool the west uses to break down Islam? I think that's pretty telling - that they understand that women's lib is the key to breaking the mind control.

If some hair slips out accidentally, is that a "Hijab Malfunction"?

NEWS FLASH
I retract my last comment (at least partly).
It seems that the crowd moved on the police after all.
A story at pajamas media:
Iranian Shoppers Riot Against Modesty Police
Maybe they're more normal than I thought. At least the young Iranians.
Hmmmm .... we'll see.
Good sign though.
