I trust that all those Muslim spokesmen in the West who assured us during the Abdul Rahman controversy in 2005 that Islamic law did not actually have a death penalty for apostasy will be winging their way to Tehran forthwith to explain to the mullahs that they're Misunderstanding Islam.
From Spiegel Online (thanks to Morgaan Sinclair):
Apostasy -- or the formal renunciation of religion -- is already punishable in Iran with death. But now, Iran wants to make the death penalty for apostasy part of the penal code. The European Union is concerned and has asked Iran to reconsider. The European Union this week sent a letter to authorities in Iran expressing its concern over a proposed change to the penal code that would make apostasy punishable by death.
The EU is responding to news that the Islamic Republic is planning to subject "apostasy, heresy and witchcraft" to the Hudud -- the body of fixed punishments assigned to crimes that are considered violations of the "claims of God." Other Hadud crimes include alcohol consumption, theft, highway robbery and illegal sexual intercourse.
As the news agency Reuters reported earlier this week, the EU, which opposes the death penalty as a matter of policy, expressed "acute concern" over the proposed penal code revision.
"These articles clearly violate the Islamic Republic of Iran's commitments under the international human rights conventions," Slovenian leaders, who currently head the rotating EU presidency, wrote in a statement.
"The EU calls upon the Iranian authorities, both in government and parliament, to modify the draft penal code in order to respect the obligations."
The death penalty has already been applied to apostates in Iran -- but this was never, since the founding of the Islamic Republic in 1979, institutionalized as a matter of legal practice.
Iran typically dismisses Western criticism of its legal system, claiming that Islamic law is fundamentally different.
Indeed it is. Most Westerners, however, would rather not acknowledge that.

The EU is responding, that sounds like a corpse subjected to galvanic shocks.
Apostasy, heresy and witchcraft are to be considered by the EU and if the entire parliamentof the EU are found guilty they will be immediately shipped off to the islamic republic for summary execution.
Illegal sexual intercourse is now illegal as stipulated by the sainted pederast mohammed.
Highway robbery and theft against all those who are not muslim is to be legalised.

Excellent point. Does that includes their adult children, teenagers and close relatives who have transgressed against Islamic Law outside of an Islamic Nation as well? Maybe a harsh dose of this "medicine" is what is needed at the EU. Mr. Geert Wilders, any suggestions?

Or maybe Senator Barak Obama can fly to Tehran and explain how he is now a "Christian" and not a Muslim anymore, even though his biological father was Muslim. He did say he wanted dialog with our enemies, no? What a perfect opportunity for "openness and dialog".

I think we're beyond that now - Sharia law is not a legal system since it does not apply to all humans equally. Sorry. It's like a set of rules written by very naughty boys "hiding' in a tree house with a sign outside that reads "No girls allowed".

Sorry EU- but the only obligations the iranians feel they have are the ones to allah. Any agreements they make with infidels do not have to be upheld nor made compliant.

Good old witchcraft! It seems that our saboteur-squirrels are still performing good work, spreading spells and charms everywhere. We should send in more of them.

The EU expresses "acute concern"; the Iranians see "cute concern". They know a paper kitten when they see one.

"Iran to Punish Apostasy with Death"
Well?
This determination is scripturally based [in ISLAM]....
And the text below, instructs 'muslims', .....'Those who take un-believers as friends are NOT muslims.'
They are *apostates* [non-muslims].
Seems to me, there would be many candidates for apostasy - especially in non-muslim nations.
i.e. Muslims making friends with non-muslims.
When do the Iranian death squads leave for Europe to purge the Ummah?
Or are only the apostates in Iran in danger atm?
O ye who believe! take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors: They are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily Allah guideth not a people unjust.

And the Koran instructs muslims, to take no apostates as friends. And when they oppose you [in Allah's way], kill them. [i.e. apostates, ex-muslims, are non-muslims!]

If a Shiite turns begins to follow the Sunni brand and vice versa, is that apostacy?
Here is a little snippet that illiminates the Sunni attitude toward Shiites.

Hah. Iran--isn't that the country that executed Atefah Ali, a sixteen year old girl, for being the victim of rape?

Why does this not surprise me?

Let Islam's madness be exposed.
Let Islam's madness be enforced upon its own.
Maybe the pressure of the lunacy will wake Muslims to the sickness of their own creed.
Or at least aim their swords at themselves while we learn the lesson: know thy enemy.
