They insulted Islam, you see. Well, all right, they didn't insult Islam, but their countries did. Well, all right, their countries didn't insult Islam, but some people in their countries did. Well, all right, the people in their countries didn't insult Islam, but they drew some pictures that some Muslims found insulting.
"Egyptian film fest bans Danish, Dutch," from UPI (thanks to Sugiero):
CAIRO, Feb. 29 (UPI) -- Danish and Dutch filmmakers are barred from an international children's film festival in Egypt because artists in those countries insulted Islam, a report said. The ban has no immediate effect on Denmark, the Copenhagen Post reported. No one from the country has participated in the festival since 2005.
Diplomats from the Netherlands are trying to negotiate terms for the country's entries in the festival to be shown.
The immediate causes of offense are Danish newspapers' decision to reprint 12 caricatures of Mohammed after three men were charged with plotting to kill one of the cartoonists in November and a Dutch film that attacks the Koran.
Fawzi Fahmi, the festival director, told Radio Netherlands that the ban is "a symbolic gesture toward all those who have insulted and degraded monotheistic religions."
What country is Andres Serrano from?

Who needs their crummy little film festival? Why on earth would anyone from a democratic, freedom loving country like Denmark (land of the great master of cinema and the human spirit, Carl Theodor Dreyer...see Day of Wrath)want to exhibit their film in such a rotten backward art hating hell hole anyway?
Let's ban Egypt? Ignore it, boycott it, exile it from the world community.

john doe.. let it disintegrate. Anybody who reads Nono Darwish's book would have to agree.

Here's an idea. Impose a full "cultural boycott" on any Muslim country that boycotts Infidel lands in order to force them to impose Muslim rules about blasphemy. Boycott, in the case of Egypt, Egyptian movies, stop participating in farcical cultural "exchanges" with Egypt, refuse to allow such things as the rapacious pay-per-view demanded, for the recent travelling exhibit of Egyptian antiquities, by the Egyptian government, represented by the comical self-promoter Zaki Hawass. No symphony orchestras, no theatre groups, no nothing to be sent to Egypt. After all, the Egyptians long ago began banning Israel from participating in its film festivals, and did so just as soon as it had acquired the last slice of the Sinai, even though Egypt had solemnly committed itself, under the Camp David Accords, to ending all hostile activity, and to encouraging precisely such cultural exchanges, in order to foster "friendly" relations.
And end the Jizyah to Egypt. Let them get the money from the rich Arabs, who have a trillion dollars in walking around money, and the more of that they have to share with the Egyptians, Jordanians, "Palestinians," and even those inferior -- because non-Arab -- Muslims, such as Pakistanis, the less they will have to fund, as they now do, mosques and madrasas and armies of Western hirelings (and their paid-for academic chairs or whole espositoesque "centers" for the "study" of this or that)all over the damn place.
Now's the time. Who, in Congress, will introduce the bill, a bill that demands an end to aid to Egypt, and to use, as the initial hook, this declared refusal, by Egypt, to allow Danish and Dutch films to be entered in this "international children's film festival."
As Exhibit A, the Congressman or Senator should arrange for a showing of what constitutes "children's films" in the Arab world, beginning with that bloodthirsty rabbit on the "Palestinian" television network, the one that routinely offers Der-Stuermer-like propaganda, and recently added, to go with its caffeinated Jew-hatred, a little Danish.

Ban the Danish and Dutch, huh? Soon enough you will need to ban ALL Non-muslim countries, and be banned in return, because that's where your foolishness is taking you. I wonder which ban will hurt more?
at March 1, 2008 9:55 AM
I'm in agreement with Hugh.
Instead of bridges to islam we should be building walls to keep that "culture" from taking root in the West.
Let them develop their own educational system without any funds from the West. I thought the quran was all they needed to learn, as all knowledge is contained in the covers of one book. See if they can figure out how to build a computer or missile delivery system from the quran.

Odd ... I could have sworn I posted twice on this thread ... and now they're gone! Perhaps they weren't dhimmi enough or there's some sort of fatwah under way against me ... and now two clean cut Mormon lads have just knocked on my door. Do you think I'm being paranoid about this?

Wait a minute, aren't these the same people that cry themselves to sleep about the unfairness of "collective" punishment?

Imagine the chorus of self-righteous indignation and derision from George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, Robert Redford, Rosie O'Donnell, etc. etc., if a major Western film festival decided to ostracize any film-makers who had "insulted" Christianity.
But when Third World Muslims do it, the reaction will be crickets chirping or, at best, gymnastic contortions to "explain" it and certainly to dilute its religiously intolerant angle.

Exactly what I was about to say.
Collective punishment is fundamental to their outlook.
Tribalism in action.

Muslims and their overwhelming sense of entitlement and their backwards way of addressing an issue never ceases to amaze me.

Insults?
Let me put this as delicately as I can. The entire ideology of islam insults my Lord and my faith. Don't they realize that? Where is the reciprocity? Why don't they respect MY religion?
Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven, that He died for our sins (because we couldn't live a perfect life in order to give our own life for our sins), and that He thought it not robbery to be equal with God. That means He declared Himself to be one with the Father. He used the words, "I am". Therefore He is not only the Son of God, but He IS God. (not a partner)
And these mohametans come along and insult me by saying He was just a prophet, that my scriptures have been corrupted, etc. ad nauseum.
Perhaps if someone points out to them that they are CONTINUALLY insulting Christianity just by believing their perverted, satanic doctrines yet the response of Christians is not violence towards them, they might be able to see that they need to grow up and deal with disagreement in a mature fashion. Try living out the "peace" and so forth that you are constantly telling us your religion consists of.
I won't hold my breath.

really seems a badge of honor for the Dutch and the Danish - join the Israelis who already had their films banned.
The advice I have to the Egyptians is why stop there? Ban all Danish and Dutch athletes for any competitions you might run, and ban all Dutch and Danish tourists as well.
Hold on, didn't some of the Egyptians newspapers show all the cartoons as well. Ok, well lets exercise collective punishment there as well and ban all Egyptian films from the festival.
To finish off I suggest renaming the festival the the Egyptian Islamic Film Festival - truth in advertising.

Egypth banning films from the Netherlands? As a Dutchwoman, I could not care less.
Although, it is quite stupid (to put it mildly) to ban the film you could see, because you fear the the one you can't (or am I the last person on the planet to never laid eyes upon Wilders movie?).
However, I'm deeply ashamed about the position our cabinet feels free to take, they don't even qualify as dhimmies, traitors will do.

What about all of the great Egyptian films we'll miss?!
"Land of the Pharoahs".
"The Egyptian".
"The Mummy".
A film festival in an Islamic country is like a hopscotch match in a minefield.
