In this Jonathan Powell reveals that he has no understanding of the jihad ideology at all, and figures that Al-Qaeda is just like the IRA: if we sit down and talk with them and work through all our disagreements, we'll be able to come to an accord. He has no doubt never heard of the Treaty of Hudaibiyya, or of the triple choice to be offered unbelievers by Muhammad's own instruction (Sahih Muslim 4294), or a host of other things.
"We must talk to al-Qa'eda, says former Tony Blair aide Jonathan Powell," by Richard Gray in the Telegraph (thanks to Joe):
A top aide to former Prime Minister Tony Blair has said that Britain must be prepared to talk to terror groups including al-Qa'eda and the Taliban if they hope to end their campaigns of violence. Jonathan Powell, the long-term Downing Street chief of staff, said it was essential to keep a line of communication open with the terror groups. The Northern Ireland peace deal, which Mr Powell played a central role in securing, showed how talking to terror groups could ultimately work, he said in an interview with The Guardian....

The nation of Winston Churchill and Enoch Powell is going to the dogs.
Truly, this is the age of stoopid.
Complete failure to teach history, the failure to instill pride in our children over our nations achievements created generations of losers.
It allowed, encouraged and misled formerly proud nations to allow and to accept politically correct -multiculti diversity indoctrination, and now it has replaced religion.
The commies are having a second wind and their laughable attempts to sing kumbayah together with Muhammedan invaders is the end of western civilizaition.
I'm tired of talking to dumb, ignorant people who have the hide to call me 'bigot, ignorant & Islamophobic...'

They seem to be forgetting that the folks from Northern Ireland weren't muslims.

While I agree with the value of negotiation, when a person or culture has already announced its intentions in multiple documents, and reinforced those ideas with action, the value of polite conversation is diminished.
Another Neville Chamberlain / Adolf Hitler combination, for the ones that actually study and learn the lessons of history.
Cease the actions and maybe dialogue will become useful.

What they fail to remember is that the peace deal came about after years of violence and tit for tat killing, until everybody involved was exhausted and prepared to compromise.
The IRA, like the UDF and the British Government and the Sourthern Ireland government were all prepared to lose some os the things they would have prefered, for more than they had at present.
This was a local dispute, with groups with clearly dilleniated goals, who were prepared to compromise.
I don't see any prepardeness to compromise at the monent, in ISLAM. To do so would be to admit they might not be preaching the absolute work of god. The IRA had a more or less pragmatic agenda, which was to bring about a united Ireland.
If it's goal had been world domination by the Catholic Church, by fair means or foul, while continually whining about how they were unfairly treated, we'd still be fighting them.
A typical one solution fits everything statement. Wonder why it never worked with Hitler, we talked to him for years, and he just lied in return. Wonder why installing a Christian government in the Phillipines stopped communism, but the same tactic in Vietnam didn't?
Could it be, you have to tailor the solution to fit the problem, this isn't a one solution fits all world?
Jesus where do they find these people?

I think we should talk to Al-Qaeda also...looking down on them, in no uncertain terms. 'We are only going to tell you this once. Get it right the first time, there will be no second...'

Politicians never seem to realize that not everything can be solved with reason, logic and speech.

This reminds me of a previous Brit politician who promised "peace in our time."
When it comes to terrorists like Bin Laden and his kind, the only discussion they understand is with the barrel of a gun.

Talking with this group is a waste of time. It is like talking in a hurricane, no one would hear and you might get blown away. These pepole live with the image of a fantasy which never existed. Dialog with them would be like talking to Jim Jones and the Peoples Temple.

Neville Chamberlain, as reviled as he is, had infinitely more balls than 'Toney' Blair. At least he drew a line and when it was crossed it was WWII and no more 'discussion'. With no-go zones already INSIDE the UK, with the nation states subsumed in the tepid mush of the EU where do you draw a line anymore?

Al-Qaeda is so accomodating to this idea of dialogue that they will even provide you with a second, brand-new throat to talk to them through.
It's pretty gurgly, but it says what they want to hear:
Submission.

Gee I don't know...talking's always good before you date someone, you know?
It's that bad-boy appeal, that's what people like this guy like about terrorists.

Hilarious. Beyond parody.
And the terrible thing is it's not really all that surprising.
We've got NATO defending Taliban lite in kabul and talking of needing to accomodate the Taliban in any peace deal.
We've got the US arming all the myriad Muslim groups in Iraq and refusing to give any help to the minority non Muslim groups.
And NATO have just given a large chunk of Europe, Kosovo, to the Islamists, after their bombers destroyed some of the oldest churches in the Europe.
So........it's not really all that surprising.
I think it's time to unfurl the white flag, chaps and chapettes

Neville Chamberlain was an appeaser in Munich, but after the invasion of Poland, his eyes were opened and he never again had any illusions about Hitler as he declared war on Germany on September 3, 1939. (His only subsequent mistake was stating that Hitler had 'missed the bus' following some operation that the Brits managed to get away with, and that created a huge controversy given the state Britain was in.)
That's more than can be said about Jonathan Powell.

Disgusting dhimmitude. Britain is finished, and it's time for the U.S. to find other European allies in the defensive war against Islam, preferably from Eastern Europe --- those nations' populations are still sane and unaffected by suicidal Western political correctness.

Well, okay, let's talk to Al-Qaeda. But only to the moderate wing of Al-Qaeda. I don't want to negotiate with the radical wing of Al-Qaeda.

USinfidel:"it's time for the U.S. to find other European allies in the defensive war against Islam"
Unfortunately, I think US policy is just as Dhimmified as the British policy.
