More Kosovo follies

When linking arms with the Arab and Muslim world, official Washington is keen to point out Kosovo would be a Muslim state. But of course, if anyone points out an independent Muslim Kosovo might be a bad idea, he is whipping up "Islamophobia."

Says the U.S. envoy to Kosovo, Ambassador Frank G. Wisner: "To be able to secure a Muslim-majority state inside the European whole is a terrific signal that the Muslim world and the non-Muslim word can live side by side in peace and cooperation, one with the other."

That is, unless Kosovo becomes a jihad base in Europe, and proves just the opposite. And to that end, President Bush has just authorized arming our newest Islamic protégé.

From the Washington Times's Embassy Row (thanks to James Jatras):

The U.S. envoy to Kosovo is urging Arab governments to invest in Europe's newest Muslim-majority nation.

Ambassador Frank G. Wisner called on the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) to build on its statement of support issued after Kosovo declared independence from Serbia on Feb. 17.

"I think Kosovars are ready for that and want it," Mr. Wisner told America.gov, a U.S. State Department Web site.

Mr. Wisner, a former ambassador to India, the Philippines and Zambia, as well as to the OIC, argued that Kosovo is a good place for foreign investment.

"It's a good investment in the future," he said. "It's a profitable investment in terms of the eventual economic evolution of southeastern Europe, and I hope a strong economic signal will accompany a political signal."

He argued that the creation of the Kosovo republic has implications beyond Europe.

"To be able to secure a Muslim-majority state inside the European whole is a terrific signal that the Muslim world and the non-Muslim word can live side by side in peace and cooperation, one with the other," he said.

"I believe that for most of the Muslim world, it's very important that one looks at [Kosovo] as a matter of justice."

So far, however, Kosovo's declaration of independence has sparked rioting from Serbs, who consider the ancient province part of Serbia's historical heritage. Russia, Serbia's main ally, has criticized the United States and other nations for recognizing Kosovo.

Kosovar militants rebelled against Serbian domination in 1999 but were crushed by a fierce Serbian counteroffensive that led to charges of "ethnic cleansing" against Kosovars and the intervention of NATO forces. Since 2004, Kosovo was administered by the United Nations.

Yep. Just like Israel and Palestine.

At least he's honestly admitting that this is nothing more than political posturing to try to make us look good to the "Muslim world".

Olive branches are nice - but when offered from a position of cowering, usually ineffective.

Not as if they just started it in 99, but they were provoking a response by the Serbians, and got one. The mass fleeing out of Kosovo by the Albanian land theives made the big splash onto the world scene, rallying sympathies even though the alleged "ethnic cleansing" was totally exaggerated.

NATO is in effect hostile, breaking a UN resolution recognizing Kosovo as Serbian land.

Hypocritical idiots.

When I hear the same people who once supported counter-jihad babble about all those wonderful Muslims we liberated or help liberate in Afghanistan, Iraq and now Kosovo it makes me want to drop. Freeing people so they can hate you even more is so counterproductive

I am beginning to think that the requirement for employment at the State Department is a graduate degree in Wishful Thinking Studies. This won't come back to bite us in the ass. Either.

I think the required IQ for a State Dept. job must be below 60 when it comes to handling Islamania. What else could explain this kind of insanity on a regular basis?

Cheer up, folks. Kosovars are in general too occupied by general gangsterism, blood feuds, and terrorizing the Serbs within their borders to concentrate on the wider jihad.

Another foolish decision by President Bush and his administration.

Glad to see him leaving the oval office in the near future.

U.S foreign policy under Presidents Clinton and Bush towards Kosovo is deeply flawed and illegal.

Providing arms to the Albanian Muslim majority in Kosovo is not the way to achieve the lasting peace that the U.S. seeks to carve out in the Balkans.

Someday in the future the decision to arm the Albanins in Kosovo will come back to sting the U.S. and western Europe.

With the support of the Nazis, Tito, and the U.S. the Serbian territory of Kosovo has been stripped away from the Serbs and handed over to their Muslim Albanian neighbors to the south who seek to gain more power and influence in the region

In April 1999, McCain and Sen. Joe Lieberman, co-sponsored the "Kosovo Self-Defense Act" with the goal of arming the Albanian military arm, the KLA, in their battle against the Serbs.

John McCain has enjoyed strong support from a lobbyist group that backs the Kosovo Liberation Army despite allegations that the KLA is a Muslim terrorist group with ties to criminal drug networks and al-Qaida.

The Albanian American PAC has contributed $5,000 to McCain's 2008 presidential campaign, while making no contributions to any Democratic Party presidential candidate.

The AACL's support for the KLA is a matter of public record.

See it here:
http://www.opensecrets.org/pacs/pacgot.asp?strID=C00278689&Cycle=2008

In 1998 the group issued a public declaration, "In Defense of the Albanian National Cause," announcing its support for the KLA.

Albanian.com, a website that bills itself as the "Home of Albanians Online, credits McCain as becoming nationally known in 1999 for advocating NATO bombing of Serbia and rallying the U.S. government to send American troops into Kosovo to support the KLA.

how clueless are bush/cheney? this clueless:

During his trip to iraq 2 days ago,at a U.S. air base cheney said that,

"You and I know what it means to be free. We wouldn't give such freedoms away and neither would the people of Iraq or Afghanistan, but in both of those countries, they're facing attack from violent extremists who want to end all democratic progress and pull them once again in the direction of tyranny."

I long for the days when Nancy consulted her astrologist or kings read tea leaves. A foreign policy based on pure chance, such as the flip of a coin, would be preferable to bush/cheney, who, having erroneously decided long ago that islam is the ROP & saudi arabia our "eternal friends", make mistake after mistake in our dealings w/ the islamic world.

I suspect that Kosovo will now be added to the unmentionable blacklist of states which the EU will only pretend to consider for membership, alongside Turkey. If that is the case, and the muslim states are kept out, I don't object to that. Kosovo as a muslim state, and/or a client of Albania, is at least an honest representation of that which festers within it's population.

They have already trashed the Balkans, I don't want them given any pretext for getting into England.

I think I am going to puke.....

Implying that because a muslim majority is present (without asking why this is so) it is therefore necessary that they have a seperate country so they can get along with everyone else?????

Interesting that our clueless state department thinks this way regarding muslims, but at the same time it is somehow okay that in ALL of the current muslim-majority states few non-muslims exists.

The people who follow Bush, will only look different, they won't act different. Hillary or John either one will continue the Bush policy of draining this country of it's wealth and strength, while at the same time pumping up despots, including Islamic despots. I don't blame Putin for his anger at Bush and recent US policies, in Kosovo and elsewhere. It almost seems as if Bush is going out of his way to anger the Russians. First the insane act of recognizing Kosovo, now the additional insane act of arming them. Why has Bush decided to make Serbia an enemy? No good can come of this...I hate to admit it, but Jessee Jackson was right when he said, 'stay out of the Bushes'. We didn't listen to him and look at the results...

"To be able to secure a Christian majority state within the Muslim world is a great signal..."

How soon is something like that going to be said by any Islamic leader?

Crickets, anyone?

The Western leaderships' criminally-negligent lack of analysis of Islam's violent dogmas and despotic global goal undermines all of this Kumbayah craziness.

Islam: the cuckoo's egg of religions.

That hideous cracking sound you just heard is a an American camel's back breaking.

This is an interesting case though. I bet that the Arab governments will NOT invest in Kosovo. The Arabs did not care at all about the massacres of Muslims in Bosnia, nor did they care about similar massacres in Sri Lanka. The international Muslim brotherhood is biased towards Arab interests. The people of Kosovo already know this.

Those people who are struggling to make medical insurance payments that are sometimes twice the rent should take special notice. Those who are looking at the expiration of their unemployment should take special notice. Those who are skipping utility payments because of gasoline prices should take special notice.

There is not a single candidate for president who will change anything. I do not count the other candidates from the other parties who will not gather enough votes to matter.

The US dollar is worth less and less every day. 150 dollars will get you only 95 Euros. Take notice.

Of the people, for the people, and by the people has such an empty ring to it anymore. I find myself wondering quite often of late, if there are many other citizens of the USA who, like myself, feel infinitesimally small and totally insignificant? This pains me deeply in regards to my grandchildren.

Frank G. Wisner has a CFR website that is worth visiting. One of the more interesting items is a speech given by writer Milton Viorst about the possibility of reconcilation between Islam and the West. Wisner's comments are in line with the story line above, but Viorst takes great exception and lays out the reasons why.

Definitely worth checking out the streaming audio of Viorst's speech at
