LONDON – Jonathan Evans, the director-general of MI5, has warned the government that donations of hundreds of millions of pounds from Saudi Arabia and powerful Muslim organizations in Pakistan, Indonesia and the Gulf Straits have led to a "dangerous increase in the spread of extremism in leading university campuses," according to Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin.
Eight of Britain's leading universities, including Oxford and Cambridge, have accepted more than 236 million pounds sterling, about $460 million, in donations from Muslim organizations, "many of which are known to have ties to extremist groups, some have links to terrorist organizations."
The bulk of the donations have come in the past five years during a period when terrorist activities in Britain have increased. Home Secretary Jacqui Smith announced over the weekend that MI5 was now investigating "42 current terror threats and the possibility of attacks is increasingly real."
Universities that have accepted the money also include the London School of Economics, the City of London, Exeter and Dundee universities. All have a growing number of Muslim students.
A major donation has included 20 million pounds sterling from the late King Fahd of Saudi Arabia to help establish the Oxford Center for Islamic Studies, which will be affiliated to the university when it opens next year.
The MI5 claims follow a lengthy investigation that revealed 70 percent of political lectures at the Middle Eastern Center at St. Anthony’s College in Oxford were "implacably hostile to the West and Israel."
The MI5 claims are reinforced by Prof. Anthony Glees, the director of Brunel University's Center for Intelligence and Security Studies, a think-tank with close links to the Intelligence Services.
"Up to 48 universities in Britain have been infiltrated by fundamentalists financed by Muslim groups. The potential threat this poses is obvious to the security of the country," Glees said.
However, Prime Minister Gordon Brown insists it is strategically "important to study Islam." He has authorized one million pounds sterling to be spent at the campuses on a counter radicalization drive.
It certainly is strategically important to study Islam. But where one gets information, and the agenda of the party disseminating that information makes quite a difference.

That seems like a conservative estimate at best.

Kudos to MI5 for even engaging in such a politically-incorrect study. Would Chertoff at DHS have the gonads to conduct a similar study in the USA? What would be the results?

I cannot speak for the other 47 schools, but I will defend St. Antony's College at Oxford. A a US Naval Officer of 22 years, I was assigned as a Senior Member there last year, and I found all of the faculty to be open minded when it came to Israel. Some of the lectures were implacable, and they typically were more Islamist than Israeli implacables. However, the debate sessions were ALWAYS civil, and real debate occurred there. yes, I found the faculty to be slightly biased towards the Palestinians, but that is typical in Europe. I, of course, was biased against Palestine and Arafat, but I never experienced any criticism for my views. St. Antony's typically keeps an Isreali scholar at the Middle East Center, and I met several nice Isreali students at St. Antony's.
When students would become "implacable" they were often chided, by both Moslems and others. On the whole, I found St. Antony's to have a more open and tolerant view of the U.S. military than most of the US campuses I have visited.

Just out of curiosity Don, how long ago did you attend St Anthony's? It's amazing how rapidly the intellectual atmosphere on college campuses can change...(though not always for the worse...Dartmouth and the U of Colorado are two examples of schools that are LESS politically-correct than they were 5 years ago).

If radical Muslims take the UK in the next hundred years, they will have a launching point for Europe, North America and Russia. Consider the level of nuclear weaponry that the UK has.
This is all part of a plan to create a "Taliban World" for humanity where girls are married off months after their first period, Hindus are murdered and Christians/Jews are made second class citizens until we whither away into nothing. As for feminists, their views are blasphemous so the books are burned and they are beheaded for their "offense to the Prophet".
Alas, Jesus said it best when he proclaim that human beings are in love with the darkness. What gives me hope is that amongst Christians there any many people with reason, faith and most of all hope. Along with people of good will within other religions and even no religion humanity will rise up against these toxic forms of Islam and assert humanities freedom and ultimately its dignity.

WEEEEEEEEEWWWWWW $1 million vs. $460 million that's putting your money where your mouth is.
At least PM Brown associates 'Islam' with the need to 'counter radicalization' in the same article, even though he has banned the comments by the PC police.

They should add the works of Spencer, Shoebat, Gabriel, Ye'or, Voltaire and the many others who have written elucidating material on islam to balance things out just a tiny little bit..
In fact, I am still in favor of mass deportations.. Benes style.
It could be done then. It can be done in the future.
Just imaging the savings and the peaceful atmosphere afterwards.. ahhh.... ahhhh... to breathe free air once again...

I hope there's some kind of accounting for how the $460 million is spent in the British universities. But then Harvard and Georgetown each received $20 million from the Saudis to burnish the face of Islam, and I've read nothing as to how they spend the money.

At the same time, Oxford - my beautiful, beloved and betrayed alma mater - lends credence to Dawkins' anti-Christian rants by creating for him a professorship "of the public understanding of science". Never since Gibbon's time has this noble institution sunk so low.
