London mayor defends his jihadist friend Qaradawi

Livingstone says that Al-Qaradawi doesn't support jihad against the West. Apparently the jihad against Israel, in the context of which this great reformist Sheikh has defended suicide attacks, is just fine with Red Ken. "Ken Livingstone defends his extremist backer," by Aislinn Simpson in the Telegraph (thanks to Sr. Soph):

Ken Livingstone defended his decision to share a platform with a homophobic Islamic preacher as he and his challenger, Boris Johnson, were neck and neck in the race for the capital yesterday.

Yusuf al-Qaradawi has described homosexuality as an "unnatural and evil practice" and said the Koran permitted wife-beating in certain circumstances.

The Qatar-based Egyptian cleric has also advocated the use of Palestinian children as suicide bombers and once claimed that Asian tsunami victims were punished by Allah because their countries were centres of perversion.

But speaking on BBC1's Politics Show yesterday, the London Mayor insisted he was right to welcome the cleric to City Hall as an "honoured guest" in July 2004. He said that while he did not agree with some of his views, al-Qaradawi did not support terrorism against the West. "He is a man who is prepared to say al-Qa'eda is wrong and to be very strong in that condemnation," he said....

Oh! Then everything is all right!

There is a new book out on the creature Livingstone and the long review in the Sunday Times of 20 April concludes,

"The book is littered with quotes from those who worked with Livingstone, deploring his treachery, incompetence and general ignobility. This is sad because, like Blair, he was given an extraordinary licence by the electorate and, like his current opponent, Boris Johnson, he could be genuinely funny and skilled at engaging with an audience. There is not much new in this book. The details of his left-wing allies, partners and children were known - and I think he is entitled to privacy over the last. What Hosken conveys is rather an overwhelming purposeless ennui. A man who has riddden on the coat-tails of an already prosperous city and has no cause but self-aggrandisement has been around long enough.

Thanks to an oversight in the London government act, Livingstone can stand for a third term as mayor, an option unknown in most direct-election regimes. He himself thought there should have been a term-limit, arguing in 1998 that “corruption tends to flourish the longer an incumbent is able to hold on to power”. He never spoke a truer word and, needless to say, reneged on it. As the mafioso said, it was only business"

London's Jewish and gay communities should be leading the fight to send Red Ken packing.

One can only hope the Londoners dump Ken. How can anyone in his right mind side with the dangerous crackpot Al-Qaradawi, is there at all any question where he isn’t seriously demented?

Are Carter and Livingston related? They seem to share the same Dhimmi gene pool.

Posted by: champ [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 21, 2008 7:04 PM

Leaving aside all the other things that Livingston has done over the years, he is currently defending a jihadi who wants to kill gays and defends wife-beating, and he is still neck-and-neck with his opponent in the election?

What does a guy have to do to get un-elected in London?

Article on Livingstone:

Ken Livingstone, who presumes, has always despised America (although that does not keep him from hiring an American expert to make those underground trains run on time). And of course he is also a great beater-upper -- ca va sans dire -- of Israel. Like "Gorgeous George" Galloway, the Glaswegian hireling of Saddam Hussein (whose money many believe helped Galloway buy his modest vacation retreat in Spain), Ken Livingstone has earned his own moniker: Red Ken.
Red Ken, or Redken as some prefer to call him, when not being mayor of London, is also a well-known shampoo. One can only wish that London voters will wash that particular shampoo right out of their hair. And then vigorously apply some anti-Jihad conditioner.

I just bought shampoo (the brand is “Marc Anthony” -— it was not so much the reduced price as the hint of Shakespeare’s paraleptic Roman that clinched the sale), and the bottle promises that its contents will, like a passing beauty who leaves one hot and bothered, “soulève, gonfle, et épaissit” (lift, volumize, thicken). And this brings relevantly to mind, in regard to that not-so-odd couple, the Mayor and the Muslim, those unforgettable lingerie ads that line the walls circumjacent to the escalators – those that go up, and those that come down -- of the London Underground.

Now as Ken Livingstone proudly showed his honored guest round and about old Londinium, did he by any chance show off that Underground, and therefore those lingerie ads, or was it limousines all the way for the Salon Bolshevik and the Quran-quoting Qaradawi? If Red Ken, in the same spirit as the Commissars who in the 1930s liked to bring Western tourists to view the gleaming Moscow Metro (“But where are the trains!” those tourists would ungratefully point out), did offer Q. such a tour, one would like to know how Monsieur Q. reacted to those advertisements, which can leave even an unaccustomed American blushing and flustered. Perhaps if his furious reaction were to have been translated, Red Ken might have looked a bit more closely into the previous protests of women’s groups, might have found out more about Qaradawi’s strictures on women’s dress, and women’s behavior, and the need for women to submit to their Qur’an-designated superiors, that is to say -- men.

And even if R. K. and Q.-q. Q. did not visit the Underground together, possibly they had a chance to take in the National Gallery. It would have been fascinating to hear Q. explain to K. through a seamlessly-bowdlerizing translator why all the statues needed to be broken or defaced if they were even to be permitted to continue to exist at all, and why, under Islam, all the paintings other than landscapes, all the depictions of famous personages, and of course anything that had a Madonna, with or without a bambino in her lap, would have to go, along with all paintings showing a saint, or a Biblical figure, or a king, or a general, or a nobleman, or any historical personage, or any non-historical figure not being held up to ridicule, because such depictions are haram, haram, haram, and don't you forget it. Perhaps Q. could then have given K. a copy of his own guide to righteous Quran’ic living, What is Halal and What Haram, even pointing out the passages that explain this unassuagable hostility toward sculpture and portrait paintings in great detail. Of course, Ken, you dimly recall what happened to the Bamiyan Buddhas, and to the frescoes formerly on the walls of the Byzantine churches of Constantinople, and to those tens of thousands of Hindu temples, and to churches all over North Africa, and Mesopotamia, and Syria -- or do you? Perhaps Ken Livingstone, a compleat homo politicus (which makes any Jack a dull boy) is not fond of art himself; he may see it as a luxury item, after all. And much of Western art, as the Kens of this world see things, corresponds to the taste of rich patrons only trying to immortalize or flatter themselves, in their commissioning of paintings and sculpture and furniture and garden follies, all paid for with the loot, as seen through the narrow lens of a narrow Ken Livingstone, accumulated through the exploitation of the working class, or the exploited colonials beyond the seas. Just look at that arch-connoisseur Kenneth Clark’s family fortune, no doubt the result of Lancashire girls spinning thread from dawn to dusk, or the liquor-store fortune of Bernard Berenson, or of course those impossible and intolerable Medicis, all those sinister Lorenzos and Cosimos. What decent human being (I quite agree, Ken) -- what decent human being can even stand to look at the paintings and sculptures that were produced for those Medici, those rich Florentine swine?

Yes, Ken, on second thought, probably you and Q. would have had much to nod in agreement about, as you walked through the National Gallery, or the Tate, or any of those other decadent centers of intolerable Western art. And Ken, wasn't it your favorite Russian writer who said that a good shoemaker was worth more than Pushkin, than everything that Pushkin had ever produced? Isn't that a world-view, isn't that an aesthetic creed, Ken, expressed so memorably and succinctly, that makes you a brother under the skin of Q-q. Q.?

And since Islam is now the vehicle of choice for those wishing to express their fury at their own perceived marginalization (psychic or economic), their own often self-induced alienation and hatred of Capitalism, of The System, of The West, of Amerika with a “K”(shudders of dismay may be inserted here), Mr. Q. came to the right place, and was made much of by the right host. Indeed, we are told that you liked Mr. Q. so much that you have invited him to return, any time he feels like it.

Ken, Redken, Mr. Livingstone, Lord Mayor of London, turn again, like Dick Whittington, if you possibly can. There may still be time. Think of those sculptures and those paintings. Do you really want Qaradawi and his ilk to have their way? Think of the freedoms built upon, and enjoyed, by those who now live in Old Londinium. Think of Bracton. Think of Coke. Think of Locke. Think of of John Stuart Mill. Think of Harry Lauder, and Al Bowlly and Jack Buchanan and Elsie Randolph. Think of Vera Lynn. Think of Sigmund Freud, and Lucien Freud, and Emma Freud, and any damn Freud who comes to mind. Think of Peter Sellers. Think of Frank Muir. Think of the Goon Show. Think of My Word, and all the gentle people who listen to My Word. Think of Alastair Sim and Alec Guinness. Think of The Bells of St. Trinian’s. Think of Wee Geordie. Think of 23 Laburnum Grove. Think of Dennis Potter -- think of Pennies From Heaven, and The Singing Detective, and Lipstick on Your Collar. Think of Keats on Hampstead Heath. Think, Ken, even of those buying bespoke at a tailor's on Jermyn Street, or the Burlington Arcade. Think about what London means, or should mean, to you, and think about the London that would exist if the likes of Sheikh Al-Qaradawi, and his followers, now well-ensconced, were to have their way – in London, in England, in Europe, all over the world. Forget about what you think about Bush, or what you think you should think of him. Think about what Q.-q. Q., if he had half a chance, would do to everyone and everything in free-spirited, silly, often deplorable, sometimes lovable London, over which you preside.

Forget about contriving always to act so as to annoy the Americans, the London Board of Rabbis, the leader-writers on The Telegraph. Try to have some gratitude to the Great Dead who created the civilization of which you and those who live in London are inheritors. Not one of those Great Dead (of England, of Europe, of the Western world)would have lasted a minute under Islam, under the likes of Al-Qaradawi and his grim little world of the shari’a, his Total Regulation, his manichaen assignment of everything to one or the other column: Haram over there, Halal over here. You owe those Great Dead of the Western world something. You owe Q-q. Q. nothing.

Please, Ken, please Mr. Livingstone, please Mr. Lord Mayor, turn again, even if that means you will have to turn against every cliché and received idea in the seemingly-immutable bolshevist banality of your mental universe. Get With the Program. And that program, if you need a hint, is not “Friends” but, rather, “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”

Yet after a terrorist attack by Muslims, for Muslim causes, prompted by the teachings of Islam that are to be found in Qur'an, Hadith, and Sira, Ken Livingstone yet again decided to welcome Sheikh Qaradawi to London. He, Redken, was not in the slightest apologetic about this. The trip was cancelled, at the last minute, but not because of Ken Livingstone.

He proceeded to tell us that there is a moral equivalence between Hamas, a group of terrorists who shoot their weapons and scream with hysterical joy whenever news of some great "victory" -- say, the shooting a pregnant women in her car, and the murder, one by one by one by one, of her four little girls -- comes across the wires. Such behavior is just par for the Hamas course, and the Likud, a political party that has the temerity to suggest that Israel has a considerable legal (the League of Nations' Mandate for Palestine), historical (the buying of land, steadily, from both the Turkish authorities and absentee landlords, and the inheriting of the nearly 90% of the land that was owned by the Ottoman state, then by the Palestine Mandatory authority, and then by its rightful and intended successor, the State of Israel), and moral (about this, if Ken Livingstone knows nothing of the history of the Jews, nor of the Muslim conquerors, nor of what happened to those Jews who remained, as dhimmis, under Muslim Arab rule, or who left to live in Europe, then he knows nothing) right to exist.

So he did not turn again, like Dick Whittington. Not worth a whisker on Dick Whittington's cat is Redken, now the mayor of the largest city in still-as-yet-incompletely-islamized Europe. But he is a portent of things to come. And how he is regarded by people in London, in England, in Europe, will tell us much about the willingness of the Infidels not to "stay the course" of appeasement and dhimmitude, but to change the course, to recover their senses, to become quick studies when it comes to Islam, and to rescue themselves, their children, and the cultural and civilizational legacy that their ancestors left them with -- and so far too many have proven to be complete ingrates.

Some gratitude please. Some common sense. Some sense of self-preservation. A modicum will do.

"He [Qaradawi] is a man who is prepared to say al-Qa'eda is wrong and to be very strong in that condemnation," --from the article.

As is often the case, a Muslim who does not willing to publicly express support for one Islamic terrorist group may be willing to publicly express support for another.

E.g., Qaradawi supports Hizballah [Source], and his support for the Palestinian "martyrdom operations" (suicidal/homicidal attacks) is well known.

Red Ken is falling back on an old trick of the Euro Jew-Haters.

When faced with trouble throw the nearest Jews under the bus.

It pains me to say it, but the fact that this knuckle-dragging sewer-spawn was elected mayor of London does not speak well of my English cousins.

I've wanted to write something about this for weeks, but there has been no really appropriate related article on DW. I hope no one minds this somewhat OT posting.

Remember the recent spate of dramatic movies dealing with the "War on Terror"--Syriana, Lions for Lambs, In the Valley of Elah, and Redacted? Most of them focused not on the evil and brutality of the jihad terrorists, but on the supposed evil and brutality of the West's--especially the U.S.'s--response to that terrorism.

Well, now get ready for the comedies!

2004's "Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle" was a better than average stoner comedy, according to most reviews. It also did surprisingly well at the box office. So the producer is building on that success with the further adventures of Harold and Kumar, where Kumar's innocent comments to his pal about bongs is misconstrued by a paranoid air marshal as a terrorist threat. "Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanimo Bay" follow the pair from Gitmo, their escape, and about one thousand miles of racist, cracker southerners as they make their way back to LA.

Another reprise comes from Morgan Spurlock, who did the surprisingly entertaining but rather predictable "Super-Size Me". Who knew that eating three meals a day at McDonalds was probably less healthy and more fattening than what your award-winning vegitarian chef girlfriend would whip up for you?

Anyway, he's back with "Where in the World is Osama bin Laden?" Where he alledgedly searches the Muslim world for the old bogeyman. At one point, Spurlock leans into a cave in Tora Bora and calls, "Yoo-Hoo! Osama?"

Footage mostly consists of Morgan finding that Muslims in North Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia are really just like us--that is, friendly people who like the American people but hate George Bush! One old warrior in Afghanistan shouts "F*ck bin Laden! And f*ck Bush!"

Oddly, one review in the East Bay Express relates that the "most hostile reception Surlock gets, however, is from publicity-shy Hasidic Jews in Jerusalem--he's practically mugged on the street". Well, certainly, because we know how many journalists have been kidnapped, brutalized and beheaded by Hassi--no, wait, my bad.

Spurlock actually does turn back when he gets close to where bin Laden is most likely holed up--the Northwest frontier tribal lands in the mountains of Pakistan. I'm not complaining--as irritating and supercillious as Spurlock is, the last thing I would want is to see his expectant wife (he and the veggie girlfriend got married) weeping over a beheading video in a horrible reprise of Marienne Pearl weeping over the brutal murder of her husband, Danny.

The third movie in this trilogy of laff riots is "The Visitor", by the Director of "The Station Agent". An uptight Economics profressor, Walter, returns to his pied-a-terre NYC apartment and finds it occupied by a pair of immigrant squatters, Zainab, from Senegal, and her boyfriend Tarek from Syria.

Hapless Walter can't bring himself to toss the pair out, so he invites them to stay with him. This film has been hailed as incredibly ground-breaking, but the themes sound pretty hoary. Lonely, isolated white guy Walter finds himself loosening up around ethnic free spirits--Zainab sells colorful jewelry at a street stand, while Tarek plays African drums in the park.

Tarek teaches rhythm-challenged Walter to play the drums. In a telling film clip, Tarek tells Walter, "You are a very smart man, but you have to remember not to think". Walter actually seems to be doing a lot of not thinking, as he lets these two crash rent-free at his apartment. Later, Tarek, who is in the US illegally, gets in trouble with the INS. Walter gets him an expensive lawyer, and later hosts his concerned widowed mother, Mouna. Reviews seem rather coy about whether Walter finds love with Mouna, but I doubt it really matters.

Walter gives these guys free rent and legal representation, while he gets multi-cultural cred in return--hmm, sounds kind of familiar. The film makes it clear that Walter is the one who really benefits from this transaction.

The Express article, which covered Spurlock's movie in the same review, ends with this: ". . .it's Walter, the isolated man who discovers the rest of humanity by accident, the luckiest accident he's ever had. If there's hope for Walter, there's hope for all of us. Even Osama bin Laden". So, if there's hope for an awkward, uncool academic, how hard could it be for a vicious jihadist hell-bent on mass murder of innocent civilians to change?

If all this levity seems a bit too frothy, it looks like HBO has a new series coming up about US troops in Iraq. A preview clip shows an Iraqi man on a bicycle cheerily waving at Americans in an armored Hummer. One of the knuckleheads makes a witty crack to his buddy about how it's afternoon, but the Iraqi (who is wearing a shalwar kameez) is still in his pajamas. I imagine the boneheaded comments of culturally insentive yahoos are just the beginning, given that the title of the series is, I kid you not, "Generation Kill".

Enjoy!

Red Ken is a disgrace to the human race, and the scum in London who keep voting him back in show that if teh English think they are so much smarter and better than us, they are mistaken.
I first heard about this dirtbag when after the Miss World/Universe people had to leave Nigeria in '03 due to Islamo-savagery, he wouldn't let them into London and all but blamed these utterly innocent people for the barbaric behavior of the Muslims in Nigeria. Since then, everything this contemptible quisling has said or done just confirmed he is a total pile of trash.
GravenImage,
good movie revues. "Harold and Kumar ...." eems to derive a lot of laughs over just how racist and unjust America is to poor old Chinese and Indian immigrants. Yet those people keep streaming in. Hmmmm??

Heres a beaut from the Newt who invited the controversial Muslim cleric Yusuf al-Qaradawi to City Hall

The Standard yesterday published a transcript of taped exchanges between the mayor and its reporter:

Oliver Finegold Mr Livingstone, Evening Standard. How did tonight go?

Ken Livingstone How awful for you. Have you thought of having treatment?

OF How did tonight go?

KL Have you thought of having treatment?

OF Was it a good party? What does it mean for you?

KL What did you do before? Were you a German war criminal?

OF No, I'm Jewish, I wasn't a German war criminal and I'm actually quite offended by that. So, how did tonight go?

KL Arr right, well you might be [Jewish], but actually you are just like a concentration camp guard, you are just doing it because you are paid to, aren't you?

OF Great, I have you on record for that. So, how was tonight?

KL It's nothing to do with you because your paper is a load of scumbags and reactionary bigots.

OF I'm a journalist and I'm doing my job. I'm only asking for a comment.

KL Well, work for a paper that doesn't have a record of supporting fascism.

And this is the man, who is on the executive committee of the Anti Fascist League.

The above is a transcript of what Livingstone said to a Jewish Reporter, when leaving City Hall on having attended the party he organised to celebrate the "coming out" of Chris Smith as Britain's first openly gay MP.

For this comment Livingstone was suspended for one month.

Upon news of the suspension, another member of the executive committee of the Anti Fascist League Sir Iqbal Sacranie, who also happens to be the secretary general of the Muslim Council of Britain, said: "This decision constitutes a clear over-reaction and an affront to our democratic traditions.

We should also remember how livingstone had earlier said he was "happy" for Mohammed Kamel Mostafa, son of jailed Islamic cleric Abu Hamza, to be working on the underground.

Mostafa, 25, was jailed for three years in Yemen in 1999 for plotting a bombing campaign.

"Has he broken any law here in Britain? [No, so] we are happy to have him working for us," he said.

And this was after the 7/7 bomb attacks

Let's try again, one Qaradawi quote at a time...

"Sheik Al-Qaradhawi argued that there are two types of Jihad: "A Jihad which you seek, and a Jihad in which you repulse an attack." In the Jihad which you are seeking, you look for the enemy and invade him. This type of Jihad takes place only when the Islamic state is invading other [countries] in order to spread the word of Islam and to remove obstacles standing in its way. The repulsing Jihad takes place when your land is being invaded and conquered... [in that case you must] repulse [the invader] to the best of your ability; if you kill him he will end up in hell, and if he kills you, you become a martyr [Shahid]..."
The Unique Characteristics of the Prophet Muhammed
Sheik Al-Qaradhawi began his discussion describing the unique characteristics of the Prophet Muhammad when compared to the prophets that preceded him: ..."The prophets that Allah sent prior to Muhammad were sent for a limited time ...and to a specific people." ... Allah established in the life of the Prophet Muhammad general, eternal, and all inclusive characteristics, and he gave every human being the possibility to imitate him and take his life as a model."" http://memri.org/bin/articles.cgi?Page=subjects&Area=jihad&ID=SP24601

Posted by: Kinana of Khaybar [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 23, 2008 12:08 AM

Qaradawi also writes:
"1. In his Sahih, Imam Muslim recorded that Thawban quoted the Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) as saying: “Almighty Allah has gathered the earth for me so that I could see all its corners. My nation will rule over all that which Almighty Allah has gathered for me.”

2. Ibn Hibban quoted the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as saying: “This matter (i.e. Islam) will spread to cover all areas where there is night and day. Allah will never leave a house in a rural area or in urban community without its people being Muslims. Honor is for those who embrace it (i.e. Islam) while disbelievers are doomed to disgrace and humiliation.”

This hadith, along with many others, give us glad tidings that the patch of the Muslim state will expand to cover the whole earth and that the strength of this state will grow and become obvious to all. This also denotes good news for the long-cherished hope of revival of Muslims’ unity and rebirth of Islamic Caliphate." MEMRI. Special Dispatch Series - No. 447. December 6, 2002
{note: In this instance, Sheikh Al-Qaradhawi cited a well-known hadith that states that Islam will conquer Constantinople (which it already has) and then Rome}.

"Al-Qaradhawi: "Islam will Return to Europe as a Conqueror"
[...]"This means that Islam will return to Europe as a conqueror and victor, after being expelled from it twice - once from the South, from Andalusia, and a second time from the East, when it knocked several times on the door of Athens."
Sheikh Al-Qaradhawi qualified his statement: "I maintain that the conquest this time will not be by the sword but by preaching and ideology…"

{Note: And if there is opposition to the spread of that "preaching and ideology"...see Qaradawi's views on jihad, above}

In his ‘The Lawful and the Prohibited in Islam,’ Qaradawi wrote:

“…Islam is the word of Allah and…His word is always uppermost. Islam came to be followed, not to follow; to be dominant, not subordinate.”
