Valencia: Immigrants must "respect the laws, the principles and the customs of Spain and Valencia"

Not that much of anything will happen if they don't: the contract "will have no consequences from a legal point of view." And the principles and customs are not clearly defined. Still, this is a small step in the right direction.

"Spain: Valencia To Adopt Contract For Immigrants Integration, " from ANSAmed (thanks to Insubria):

(ANSAmed) - MADRID, APRIL 29 - The municipality of Valencia will impose an "integration contract" to the immigrants, inspired by the one proposed by Peoplés Party leader Mariano Rajoy in the latest election campaign, which however will have no consequences from a legal point of view. Announcing the initiative, published today by the media, sources from the regional government, headed by Francisco Camps from the Peoplés Party, admitted that in case of violation of the "chapters" of the contract there will be no consequences on the immigrants given the fact that the autonomous municipalities have no authority in ordering deportations or other types of coercive measures. By signing the contract, which will be part of a law on immigration that is being drafted by the regional government, the immigrant pledges "to respect the laws, the principles and the customs of Spain and Valencia", which are not specified any further. The announcement made by Rajoy during the election campaign triggered harsh criticism for the difficulties to identify the Spanish customs, which could include the bullfighting, the afternoon siesta or the flamenco. (ANSAmed).

I don't get the point. Are "immigrants" unlawfully suppressing native participation in bullfighting and flamenco?

Do not underestimate this. Switzerland introduced suche a law this year. It helps integration-resistant immigrants to decide whether they want to integrate or to be sent away. It is not particularly useful to make them integrate - however, it is very useful indirectly, for those hesitating.

Nobody gets rid of the flamenco!

Can we get one of these laws in the USA? Just hoping........

And this is going to work - how?

It is designed to assist the muslims in spreading islam. What? Did you think the citizens of Spain matter? Spain will always belong to the ummah.

Oh please! This is pathetic! The article is trying to imply that immigrants somehow will have to "adapt" and "participate" or cheer bullfights and learn how to dance flamenco???

I am Portuguese, we also have bullfights here, and frankly I couldn't care less about them...

What Rajoy meant was that immigrants must adapt and respect the social and cultural norm prevalent in the Spanish society - e.g. not scorging your wife if she isn't in the mood for sex, no genital mutilation, etc.

Bullfights? Puleeez...

This SHOULD mean that you can't get away with honor killing your daughter because she wants to become a professional flamenco dancer.

Cruzado it was meant to be facetious.

As the UN and human rights are against the most effective ways of removing them then this will have to do.

Can they send them back on the same leaking boats in which they arrived? Not on yr life: it will be an airline ticket.

Q how mucyh money have the OPEC countries provided for the greenhouse problem?
Anyone know?

Not much i will wager.
That is why it is a waste of taxpayers' money.
Can anyone see African fires being lit less often or China cutting down on emission?

It's often claimed that Europe needs immigrants to supply the workforce that has been diminished by the low European birth-rate. I tend to not believe this, since so many of the immigrants end up on the welfare rolls; apparently there are not enough jobs for them after all. But, assuming that immigrants really are needed, why has Europe turned to the Moslem world to supply them? And why have they not turned to Latin America instead? There are hundreds of millions of Latin Americans anxious for better jobs and lives -- just look at the millions bearing considerable hardships to get to the U.S. These people share the Western and Christian culture of Europe and would be much easier to assimilate than the Moslems. Spain in particular is insane to be allowing Moslem immigration, when there are 200 million Latin Americans, who already speak Spanish and are Christian, to draw on.

"...no consequences from a legal point of view"

Then why bother?

Australia did the same thing back in 2005. They actually published handbooks and manuals instructing "certain" immigrants that blowing snot out of your nose onto the street is not acceptable to the general populous, that you are expected to work and maintain yourselves financially, and that women that might be seen uncovered or wearing less than a burqua, i.e., "catmeat" are not ripe for the raping by those from the ME. Go Aussie's!
