An update on this story.
"Mindanao, Islamic rebels drive more than a thousand Christians from their land," by Santosh Digal for AsiaNews, May 3 (thanks to Cindy):
Cotabato (AsiaNews) - The Moro Islamic Liberation Front has forced about 1,200 Christian farmers to flee from a village in the southern province of Mindanao. This is confirmed by the local police, who withdrew from the area in order to avoid an armed conflict with the rebels. These have been seeking for about 40 years to obtain a sort of administrative and sectarian independence from Manila.This situation deteriorated last week, when Malaysia withdrew its mediators from the province, the stronghold of the Muslim Filipinos. According to a peace agreement signed by the rebels and the government, in fact, an autonomous Muslim region was supposed to have been created this year with the supervision of neighbouring countries, called to oversee the cease-fire.
But dialogue between the two parties was abruptly interrupted, in spite of appeals from Catholic and Muslim religious leaders, and the fear of new sectarian violence forced many Christians in the south to flee to safer areas.
Garcia, a local farmer, recounts: "The Islamic Front arrived suddenly and claimed their forefathers owned the land we are farming, and at gunpoint told us to leave. Police were not allowed entry, so they backed off to avoid bloodshed".

Liars! The mulsims need to be attacked ruthlessly and driven back, otherwise, there is no possibility of compromise. There will be no peace. They will continue to attack the Christian dhimmis and push them off the land. Or is there some distant mosque that muuhammed flew to and took a piss from in the Philippines, giving them 'the right' to take the land? When is the world going to call a spade from a spade?

It is probable that among the 'moros' are people who descend from pre-Islamic animist, Buddhist or Hindu inhabitants of the area who were frightened or bribed or deceived into becoming Muslim.
But the modern 'moros' are now nothing more than janissaries for the Empire of Islam, an alien cultural and socio-political entity that has no love of or interest in local land boundaries, customs, laws, identities and languages, but rather, rejects them as jahiliyya and seeks to erase them and replace them with the Empire of Islam, the featureless and amorphous ever-expanding blob which is the 'ummah', within which only Arab-derived names, laws, customs and language are seen as having any permanent reality or validity.
As such - the 'moros' cannot consistently invoke pre-Islamic, non-Islamic laws or ancestry in order to lay claim to the land. The claims based on Islam are, of course, pure fantasy, being merely blatant Arab imperialism by any other name.
Having essentially renounced their original identity, whatever it was, these marauding 'moros' have forfeited any rights that might have attached to that ancestral identity.
Since they are behaving like alien invaders, like an invading army, they should be treated as such.

I had a look at the update you linked. Interesting.
Here's an attempt at analysing it in light of what Mr Spencer and others have taught us about the Muslim playbook.
First: there was a 'treaty' in 2003. But we all know that as per the Treaty of Hudaybiyya (as discussed in Spencer's "The Truth about Muhammad", pp. 136-39, and as elaborated in Khadduri's 'war and peace in the law of Islam'), Muslims must not make permanent treaties with non-Muslims, but - if temporarily weak vis a vis the non-Muslims - are allowed to make a specious agreement in order to regroup and rearm, an agreement which they may break at will, as soon as they feel strong enough.
Obviously the MILF felt strong enough to try their luck.
On the other hand, they must have met sufficient resistance, or the possibility of such, to make them now at least feign to back down.
The article mentions 'competing claims to the land', and Muslim claims that 'Christian settlers had no right to be there'.
Unfortunately, one must view these statements with a certain degree of scepticism, given the fact that Mohammed said, 'war is deceit', and the fact that Muslims are permitted to lie in order to advance Islam, and that to the Muslim mind, if there is a dispute or disagreement between a Muslim and a non-Muslim, the Muslim is always right and the non-Muslim is always wrong.
It is instructive, also, to reflect on the fact that every move being made in this jihad in the southern Philippines, involves tactics and rhetorical claims precisely identical with those employed by Muslims in southern Thailand, in Kashmir, in Chechnya, in Kosovo, and in Judea and Samaria (to name those which have been covered here most extensively).
This suggests that whatever the cloaking device, it's all jihad - for the expansion of the Islamosphere, which poses as universal, but in fact is as ethnocentric, chauvinistic and idolatrous as the Nazi system was, with 'arab' instead of 'German/ aryan' as the totalised and sanctified identity (the difference being that one can become an ersatz Arab, though of an inferior order, by becoming a Muslim, whereas it was not possible for a non-Aryan to become a 'German').
