Taliban: "If you do not give up watching televisions, you will face violence"

So would Little Mosque on the Prairie be ok?

Sharia Alert: "Taliban Ban TV In Afghan Province," from Reuters, May 13 (thanks to Sr. Soph):

KABUL (Reuters) - Taliban insurgents have ordered residents of a province near the capital Kabul to stop watching television, saying the networks were showing un-Islamic programs, officials and local media said on Tuesday.

The order is the last in a wave of curbs that the resurgent militants have announced in areas they are active.

A senior Afghan information ministry official, Najib Manelai, said that dozens of masked men with weapons entered mosques in Logar province at the weekend and threatened residents against watching television

"They threatened the people that 'if you do not give up watching televisions, you will face violence'," Manelai told Reuters.

Media reports quoted residents as saying that the Taliban imposed the ban because TV networks were showing programs that were "un-Islamic and anti-Afghan culture."...

"televisions..."
-- from the Taliban statement above

The plural sweetens it, somehow. It makes me think of some hapless Dagwood character, standing mesmerized -- and paralyzed with the possibilities of choice -- in front of serried ranks of televisions, at Circuit City or dreamy Costco, staring now at this, and now at that, member of the Greater Fraternity of Sony and Sharp and Samsung, trying trying trying to decide what make, what size, what this and what that, and wondering if, in the end, he shouldn't just call it a day, and wait patiently for the Gods of Technology to come down, bearing that wafer or paper-thin O.L.E.D. screen -- the one that can't be too thin, just as you can't be too rich to afford it.

No, the Taliban man has a point. Don't watch "televisions." Choose one television. Stick to that. It'll have all the Western decadence you'll ever need.

This is not what the patronizing State Dept expected.
The arrogant idiots at the State Dept think a slow, pandering, patronizing process of exposure to modernity will fix Afghanistan, etc. These are not medieval people, they only use medieval tactics. These are a people controlled by a type of personality--the hyper-aggresive, controlling, criminal thug-type--that Islam aggrandizes and bestows with various titles, such as imam, mullah, sheik, and ayatollah. Each ideology, whether it is democracy, communism, etc., has at its center an ideal personality suited for it. Islam's controllers seek power, especially over women and children, and they hate the idea of majority rule. They also exhibit violence and fear of losing control in regard to sex, which seems to dominate their thinking.
Powerful imams have a vested interest in dominating, rather than educating. Remove the cleric, and free the people.

Information is bad for Islam.

I do recall that Mohammed said, "Those that watch television (especially American Idol) will be cursed by Allah." I'm sure that it's somewhere in the Koran.

No, chosen one, it's in one of the recognized hadiths.

So would Little Mosque on the Prairie be ok?
Yes, as well as:
"Name That Dune"

"The Flying Imam"

"I Stone Lucy"

"Generally Inhospitable"

"Eid Dream of Jeanie"

"IED Dream of Jeanie"

"Afghanistan's Funniest Kidnappings"

"L*A*S*H"

"Allah in the Family"

"Jake and the Fatwah"

"Love Goat"

"Starsky & Haj"

"Jew's Company"

"Zionfelled"

"60 Minarets"

and...

"The Head Chopping Network"

But "Sex and the Sunni", along with "Bhurkas Gone Wild", both rated RPG, are definitely haram. And remember, Allah Knows Best!

Unfortunately, I have to agree with the Taliban here; television IS Anti-Islamic!

(And so is freedom of thought, expression, conscience, women's rights, gay rights, music, art, sculpture, cartoons, apostacy, education, science, etc, etc, etc, etc,,,,,,,)

I guess I am in the clear with the Taliban...I gave up on TV a long time ago. I agree with them that TV is evil. I watched 'American Idol', and 'Dancing with the Stars', twice and that convinced me, evil, pure evil, there is nothing on the television that is not anti-Islamic.
And there is not much on it worth watching anyway.
I don't think television addicts should be punished.
The Taliban could just confiscate all the television's they can locate, by spotting antennas.
No more of that American Idol stuff for Afghans, if it corrupted me, I know it will corrupt those Afghan muslims...

What they hate most is the western concept of individual freedom.

Posted by: MP [TypeKey Profile Page] at May 13, 2008 1:30 PM

Shy Guy - And no more

"Mullah knows Best"

"Operation Runway - Kabul"

"Desperate Multiple Wives"

"Rock the Casbah!" (MTV)

"Afghanistan's Funniest Honor Killings"

"Halal or Haram? Only the Mullah knows....."

"Date your Daughter-in-law!"

"Wives Swap"

"72 raisins? We don't need no stinkin' raisins!"

I'm willing to cut them some slack on this. TV is garbage and is the main reason we have a nation of fat ignorant slobs. Kill YOUR TV!

Posted by: Dumbo [TypeKey Profile Page] at May 13, 2008 3:30 PM

Shy Guy & Tanstaafl: But these shows were all brought to us by JBC!!! (Jihad Beheading Corp.) Doesn't that make them halal???

Media reports quoted residents as saying that the Taliban imposed the ban because TV networks were showing programs that were "un-Islamic and anti-Afghan culture."...

So how about they just watch CNN and it's coverage of Taliban violence in Afghanistan? Would that be islamic?

Not being able to watch Boston Legal. . . .now that would be tragic.

Without TV, how will the mass propaganda campaigns that have enabled this era's Islamic uprising continue?

Islam is a dictatorship.

Posted by: champ [TypeKey Profile Page] at May 14, 2008 2:47 AM

What most people don't realize is that Little House On The Pairie
is a Zionist conspiracy to infiltrate and convert Muslim society.

They have employed Carlo Rota one of TV's hamiest ham actors
to play a Muslim in this rather pointless juvenile series.

He even has his own TV cooking show in which ham ( himself ) is the star ingredient.

And so, ham is surreptitiously introduced to Islam.

NamFrank - It is haram, I tell you. Take down the satellite dish, Abdul!
But let my wives watch just one more episode of "Muslim Mullahs Behaving Badly in Dubai".

We laugh at this silliness, because it deserves it. But shouldn't the world make an attempt to break through the "Qur'an Curtain"? Imagine Al-Qaeda rushing about the House of Peace trying to tear down television antennas, seize Barbi dolls and burn Spiderman comic books. And the internet? Don't get me started, Osama!

We need more cartoons, more "Fitna", more Jihad Watch, more teddy bears named "Mohammed", more cartoons about that wacky profit (pun intended), more scholarly research into the origins of the Qur'an, more translations of the Qur'an into the languages of 80% of the Muslims world wide and, of course, more Islamic jokes.

Did you hear the one about the mullah, the pig and the black dog?

Posted by: tanstaafl [TypeKey Profile Page] at May 14, 2008 10:27 AM

Time for a sting.

Put a add in the papers for a public showing of some western made films, or such, and have it in a theater or some like minded event.

Then get the entire place set for a ambush, using the army and police, just be ready to wack the mole(ium).

To tempting for islam to not attack, but one suprise may have them on the defence, on the next public showing.

Yes! In fact, I previously sent a note to Robert and Hugh suggesting they add a section to JW/DW devoted to just this sort of thing. I ended my note with "Did you hear the one about the mullah, the priest and the rabbi who went into a bar..."
