Pakistan moves towards Sharia in seven districts

This will mean, of course, the subjugation of women and non-Muslims.

"Pakistan Takes Steps Towards Shari'a State In Seven Districts," from MEMRI, May 16 (thanks to Sr. Soph):

On May 11, 2008, the secular government in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province (NWFP) finalized a deal with the Taliban groups for the implementation of shari'a in the province's seven districts. The Pashtun nationalist government in the NWFP, which came to power last month, had vowed to talk to the Taliban in order to establish peace in the region. The talks were held between the government, Pakistani Taliban and the outlawed Tehreek-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat-e -Muhammadi (Movement for the Enforcement of Islamic Shari'a).

The Tehreek-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat-e-Muhammadi, led by Maulana Sufi Muhammad, the Islamist leader recently released from prison under a deal with the government, is the dominant Taliban group in the NWFP. It is also a constituent of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, which is led by Baitullah Mehsud.

[...]

Under the deal between the NWFP government and the Tehreek-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat-e-Muhammadi, which is controlled by Sufi Muhammad's son-in-law Maulana Fazlullah, a shari'a system of administration and justice will be implemented in seven districts. This will effectively create the world's first mini-shari'a state within Pakistan, with the provincial government practically ceding control to the Taliban in roughly 45% of the province.

[...]

According to the Roznama Khabrain report, "the [ulema of the] department of Amr Bil Maroof will train [sic] people in Islam, Islamic teachings, Islamic norms and laws." There will be total ban on singing and dancing, and the ulema, who will not be paid a salary, will be based in the local police stations of the seven districts and offer their services as part of their work for Islam.

Courts Will Deliver Islam-Compliant Punishments

The paper stated that shari'a courts will be created in the seven districts, and that these courts will have the power to deliver Islam-compliant verdicts such as amputating the hands of individuals convicted of theft, administering 80 lashes or stoning for convicted rapists, or enforcing qisas - a principle that permits "like punishment" for a crime....

They have to do something with the millions and millions in "aid" we send them.

And "democracy" in Pakistan does this.

Isn't democracy wonderful?

The president said so.

Ahh Pakistan...Yes Pakistan the savior of the west from the time of fighting the communists in Afghanistan to the present War on Terror. For the past 70 years it has never been able to have a stable democracy. It is and always will be a seat of Islamic terrorist training camps and hot bed. The roots all come from the past 1000 years when Islam started to attack India to loot and pillage the wealth and convert by sword Hindus, Buddhists, Jains to Islam. That is still part of Pakistan society. Christians, Hindus are persecuted in Pakistan. Kidnappings of non Muslims continue. The false hope sold to American elite continues while the US sends billions upon billions of Aid to this country.

-- from a posting above

Not "millions and millions." And not "ten billion" as the Administration likes to claim, and as the press dutifully reports. No: see Selig Harrison. The real amount, if one includes debt cancellation, is $30 billion.

What did we get for that $30 billion?

How is the Taliban doing in Afghanistan, and does it still have the ability to seek refuge in Pakistan anytime it wants?

Yes.

How is Al Qaeda doing in Pakistan, and has the Pakistani government tried in every way it can to prevent attacks by American forces on Al Qaeda, and furthermore, done almost nothing with its own forces to fight Al Qaeda?

Yes.

So what has that $30 billion done?

And what other uses might have been found for that money in order to divide and demoralize, and therefore to weaken the power of the Camp of Islam, or by disseminating information about the texts and tenets of Islam among Infidels, to create a new alliance of Infidel lands -- an alliance that still awaits its creation, given that Muslims have so successfully shattered the old alliance of the West by their clever exploitation of the pre-existing mental pathologies, in Western Europe, of anti-Americanism (also encouraged by the palpable mental desarroi of the American President and his Administration) and antisemitism that finds a socially acceptable outlet or vehicle in anti-Israel attitudes and perceptions that, naturally, leads to excuse-making for Muslims in the Jihad (seldom recognized as such) that is only the most-publicized of the many Local Jihads that are now being waged, and whose sum is the world-wide Jihad.

Compare to it's neighbor - India.

Yep, Muslims have to be ruled by Muslims. How else can you legalize wife beating, child marriage, Jew hatred, mass murder, etc., etc.,

Can you see the economic, artistic and political boom that India is undergoing right now? Too bad about Pakistan and Bangladesh. Must be the remaining colonialism that is holding them back.

"...administering 80 lashes or stoning for convicted rapists.."

Considering the Islamic definition of "rape;" I don't see how anyone could be convicted. Won't the girl be stoned for "impurity" or killed by her male relatives in an "honor killing" ?

If I am wrong, please feel free to enlighten me.

The Pashtun nationalist government in the NWFP, which came to power last month, had vowed to talk to the Taliban in order to establish peace in the region.
......................

This is what "peace talks" with jihadi groups lead to--total capitulation, or no "peace".
...

More:

..........................

Oddly, this is getting almost no coverage in the MSM. Most Americans still seem to think that the main barrier to full, Western-style democracy in Pakistan is the lingering presence of the hapless Musharraf.

Observe this line, from the article, on the mini-sharia state to be established in 7 districts of Pakistan:

"There will be a total ban on singing and dancing".

Traditional Islam's ban on music - HARAAM! - FORBIDDEN! - is one of the sickest aspects of its profoundly antihuman gestalt.

"Hadee's-e-Qudsi 19:5 (Ahmad) The Prophet said that Allah commanded him to destroy all the musical instruments, idols, crosses and all the trappings of ignorance".

And here, from November last year, is one of Hugh's lapidary postings, which I will re-post, since it cannot be bettered:

"As for the musical Muslim query, the explanation is that those Muslim musicians in northern India, like those wedding-singers in Afghanistan shot to death by the Taliban, or those singers of Raiin Algeria shot to death by fanatics from F.I.S., were relaxed, or lapsed, in their observance, or practice, of Islam. {One might add, also, the sellers of music CDs, whose shops have been bombed, in Gaza}.

"The doctrine concerning music in Islam is clear: music is haram, not halal.

"On-line one can find both the Qur'an (in four or five English versions, presented synoptically) and the Hadith from the most authoritative collections; put "music" into their respective search engines and see what comes up.

"For those whose practice conforms with the doctrine, see Afghanistan, where the Taliban murdered those Afghani wedding-singers, and even killed those who defied the ban on listening to music on radios.
"See what the True Believers of the F.I.S. did to singers of Rai in Algeria. See the role of music -- non-existent -- in Saudi Arabia or other Sharia-compliant states.

"There is music in Muslim societies, but its appearance is despite and not because of Islam."

By the way, I once went right through the Quran, looking at the descriptions of paradise. Not one of them makes any mention of music or singing. That's right. NONE. (Compare that with, for example, St John's or Dante's visions of heaven, filled with song; compare with the verse in the Book of Job which tells us that "all the morning stars sang together").

Just think. Jihadis forgo sex and wine in this life but are told they will get them in Paradise: but the ban on music seems to apply both in this life AND in the hereafter.

Sick. A belief system that tries to do that - ban music - in opposition to every other human culture, whether tribal or 'high civilisation', that has ever existed - is sick. Frankly, it's more than sick: it's diabolical.

from the article: "According to a report in the Peshawar-based Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Khabrain, shari'a law will be implemented in seven NWFP districts: Malakand, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Lower Dir, Upper Dir and Chitral."

Chitral is the district where the remaining "kafirs" of "kafiristan" are being obliterated. I doubt that the official declaration of sharia will be any worse for them than the current system, however.
