A victory for common sense. "Danish appeals court rejects lawsuit against newspaper that published prophet cartoons," from The Associated Press, June 19 (thanks to Paul):
COPENHAGEN, Denmark: A Danish appeals court on Thursday rejected a lawsuit against the newspaper that first printed the controversial Prophet Muhammad cartoons in 2005, saying they were not intended to insult Muslims. The Western High Court said it was not proven that Jyllands-Posten's purpose in printing the cartoons was to depict Muslims as criminals or terrorists.
The court in Aarhus, 125 miles (200 kilometers) northwest of Copenhagen, upheld last year's lower court ruling, which rejected claims by Danish Muslims that the 12 drawings were meant to insult the prophet and make a mockery of Islam....
The Jyllands-Posten daily has apologized and said it had not intended to offend Muslims. But it stands by its decision to print the drawings to challenge a perceived self-censorship.
"We are very disappointed and sad about the outcome," said Mohammed Nehme, a spokesman for Islamic Faith Community, one of seven groups that appealed the lower court ruling. "We had hoped it would be in our favor but now we have the court's word that what they did was in order."
Nehme said the group had not yet decided whether to appeal to the Supreme Court....

This is excellent news! However....
Mohammed Nehme, a spokesman for Islamic Faith Community "We had hoped it would be in our favor but now we have the court's word that what they did was in order."
Oh, no....now they're annoyed again.
Cue the riots, loud bangs and senseless deaths.

"...but now we have the court's word that what they did was in order."
I infer a threat to the Danish judge and court in that line.
I hope all Danes do as well.

A Danish appeals court on Thursday rejected a lawsuit ... saying they were not intended to insult Muslims.
Wrong answer. Surely the right answer would be that even if they were meant to insult Muslims and Islam the Motoonists and the papers have a right to free speech. There is no right to be uninsulted! Jews are insulted in the papers regularly but one gives a damn about that, remember the cartoon of Ariel Sharon eating Arab babies that won awards?

The Jyllands-Posten apology means the islamists have already won halfway in this round. We have every right to deliberately offend muslims and we should defend that right.

"The court in Aarhus, 125 miles (200 kilometers) northwest of Copenhagen, upheld last year's lower court ruling, which rejected claims by Danish Muslims that the 12 drawings were meant to insult the prophet and make a mockery of Islam...."
-- from the article above
As the poster just above rightly notes, this is not the full-throated support for free speech one would have liked. Danes, and others who are not Muslims, have a perfect right to insult "the prophet" of any faith, and they have a perfect right to "make a mockery" of Islam or any other faith. Whether that mockery is, in a particular case, clever and scores a palpable hit, is a matter of taste. But the right to be free to try should not depend on intent -- in this case, the apparent lack of intent, as the court held, "to insult the prophet and make a mockery of Islam."
Is it now the case in Danish law that someone who wishes to "insult the prophet and make a mockery of Islam" is not permitted to do so, when before he could have? Why? Why allow that victory to Muslims, why allow them to curb, in Denmark, the freedom of free Danish people?

Exactly. The J-P should never have apologized. Wrong move, newspaper people! No apology was necessary. Of course those cartoons were going to insult Muslims! Saying they were not "intended" to is a total lie, and you know it.
The issues here are: Free Speech and Free Press.
Nothing else.

Actually, Islam is so self-insulting that one hardly needs any cartoons to cause mental carnage. Just use their own scriptures and quote loyally.

My hairdresser recently returned to from 3 months in the Netherlands where she had been with her husband for his job. I was able to get some interesting info from her without being too obvious about my real motives (she's a liberal Dem and not up on the Islamic stuff at all--she didn't even know about the infamous Mo 'toons!). I found out 3 very interesting facts from her:
1: The Dutch are absolutely nationalistic and they make sure that all immigrants are made aware that they are a liberal, open society.
2: They are very proud of their way of life, consider themselves "progressive" and won't let anyone try to change them.
3: Most of them don't like Muslims.

We're quite sick of the ongoing Islamic whining - and associated bullying. Here's more Danish anti-dhimmitude:

Muslims around the world bother themselves in only 2 things: to hurt and to be hurt!
Each saying insults them. Each proclamation take the fury out of them. Each banner or a caricature is a cause for bloodshed, huge demonstrations, threats about boycotts and bans. Every judical act against a certain citizen who is Muslim is being interpreted as a religious and national persecution after the whole Islamic world!
And when they are not hurted from others 'insults' - they do all to hurt and insult others - the Jews are planning to take control of the world, killing Palestinians children and using thier blood for making unleavened bread. The USA is the big Satan. Same are Britain, Germany, Denmark...The whole western world at all is a dreadful disaster and should be destroyed or at least to obey Mohamad's law. Iran is the real world-wide leader and launching missiles, rockets and suicide terrorists to Israel and European cities it's not terror - it's a legitimate struggle against the conqueror!
What a fun to be a Muslim ah?
All is so clear and simple. At morning I'm being hurt - at evening I hurt others.

@ Mia
This is absolutely true. They live to be victims. They actually create situations where they pit themselves against other societies, cultures and religions so that they can cry injustice and offense, thus giving themselves the opportunity to play the victim card. They live for it. It's how they justify violent jihad and oppression of others.

Living in a free society means you have a right to say critical things about others.
An insult is an insult only if you perceive it as such.
If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.
Move back to that Islamic paradise you left.
No insults Mohammed there.
........ you can still insult kuffars, though.

As has been said, the process it the punishment. Saudi money pushing this through the courts, with interminable appeals, makes legitimate comment unsustainable.
The result is neither here nor there, it's the process that kills.
Time to wake up now.

Actually, the Motoons are nicest things about Islam that have happened in a long time.
I like the time bomb turban one so much that it is on my blog daily.
Without the ruckus of the Muslims in Denmark, I never would have seen any Motoons. Thanks, boys.
I guess even barbarians, in their own way, can enlighten a Western mind.
Shall we take a collection to buy space in a world paper to reprise these delightful drawings one more time?
