More of this from Malaysia. "Syariah court declares deceased a Muslim," from the New Straits Times, July 5:
GEORGE TOWN: A dispute over the right to claim the body of a man between the religious authorities and the deceased's family has taken on a new twist.
The matter was supposed to be decided at the High Court here yesterday afternoon, but the religious authorities jumped the gun and obtained a declaration from the Parit Buntar Syariah Court in the morning.
The Syariah court declared that the deceased, Elangesvaran Benedict, was a Muslim.
The matter was decided by the court despite the fact that Elangesvaran's wife, who had been named as a respondent in the case, was not present in the Syariah court.
This raised the wrath of Elangesvaran's family who had gathered at the High Court here.
Karpal Singh and R.S.N. Rayer, who represented Elangesvaran's family, expressed outrage over the underhanded manner the case had been handled.
They raised the matter with High Court judge Datuk Balia Yusuf Wahi when the case was heard in his chambers.
"We made it clear that it is not proper for them (the religious authorities) to have gone to the Syariah Court in the morning, knowing very well that this matter is going to be heard at the High Court in the afternoon," said Karpal.
"This is wrong and we are thinking of filing a contempt of court application against them."
Earlier, Balia Yusuf dismissed the interim injunction sought by Elangesvaran's family to prevent the religious authorities from claiming his body from the Parit Buntar Hospital mortuary.
However, he also granted a stay which prohibits anyone from removing the body after Karpal and Rayer said they would be filing for another injunction to restrain the religious authorities from getting the body.
The matter is set to be heard at the same court here on Monday afternoon.
The case involves Elangesvaran's family who are disputing the Perak and Penang religious departments' claims that he was a convert.
Elangesvaran, 34, committed suicide on June 22 and his body was sent to the Parit Buntar Hospital for a post-mortem.
His family was later told they could not claim the body for burial as Elangesvaran was a Muslim convert.
They later filed a summons at the High Court here, claiming that Elangesvaran had always been a Hindu and had died as one.
They are now seeking to get back the body to be buried according to Hindu rites.

Hasn't this poor man's family suffered enough? First his loss, and then the sad realization that he was a suicide, and now they are even being denied whatever solace they might find in giving him a decent burial.
This has happened in Malaysia before. The fact that it is so ludicrous doesn't make it any less painful for the deceased's loved ones.

They are now seeking to get back the body to be buried according to Hindu rites.Buried? Hindus are supposed to be cremated, not buried. (Could this have been a typo, with 'buried' substituting the word 'burned'?) While the idea is to return the body to the elements from which it supposedly originates, it comes in particularly handy when avoiding conflicts with Mohammedans over cemetery real estate. (Also, how many Hindus name their kids 'Benedict'? Next we'll have Jews named 'Rama', Christians named 'Krishna', Rastafarians named 'Shiva'?)
Anyway, nice strategy. Since the Mohammedans can't convert living Hindus, they might as well convert the dead ones, since the latter, aside from being in no position to offer any resistance, would not be of any demographic use to them either.

Does he have a substantial estate? My understanding is that these things are usually motivated by screwing the deceased's heirs. My bet is that Malaysian law says that Hindus can't inherit from Muslims. Declaring Mr. Benedict a Muslim makes him effectively intestate, and presumably Muslim religious authorities receive the estate when a Muslim dies intestate. Since Muslim religious authorities do not use this to screw every Hindu out of their estate, there must be something special about this case that the article doesn't articulate.

Yes, that's my understanding, too. A few years ago, though, there was another case in Malaysia where a famous Hindu soccer star died, and claims were made that he had quietly converted to Islam right before his death. (I know this case was covered by DhimmiWatch, but I haven't been able to locate it).
I think in this case, Muslims mostly wanted to claim a famous and revered figure as "one of theirs", no matter how much it hurt his family, and whatever the true facts might have been. Although, as a sports star, he might have had a tidy estate, too . . .

That's a good explanation, and the only logical one that explains what's otherwise a grotesque and bizarre act on the part of the Malay authorities. As to the precedent in Dhimmiwatch that you were looking for, it was not a soccer star, but a former commander of the Malaysian armed forces and a mountaineer, who died while climbing Mt Everest and was buried over his family's objections. In that case, I recall the brother of the deceased actually was a convert, and it was he who drove the wretched decision.
And it's not just the posthumous conversions. There's been the case of Lina Joy, a Christian whose application to be recognized as such was denied, and Revathy Masoosai, a daughter of converts to Islam who married a Hindu and converted to it, only to have her young daughter confiscated by the authorities and placed under the care of her stupid and evil Mohammedan parents.
Something to remember next time anyone suggests Malaysia as a tourist spot for any reason. Prefer Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, even Vietnam, but avoid Malaysia at all costs!

Again this type of shit happens.
Why cant muslims leave people alone? If one believe in shit, others have the right to choose not to.
Non muslims have to revolt and prove the point once & for all.
I feel very sad for the deceased family to be treated this way knowing all the circumstances that prevailed.
I have a gut feeling that this is something to do with inheritance as some greedy muslim is always looking for a way to steal, rape and commit sinful crimes against non muslims in the name of allah.
there can be all god but allah.
shame on all muslims.

Muslims want what you have when you are alive and now, we see, after you are dead, they still want it.
Muslims are so greedy ... stealing or taking your property by force is part of the Islamic grand plan to take over the world.
Ban Muslim Immigration.

The dirty and scumbag behavior of Muslims. It is typical deception and the belief of the superiority of Muslims. However to me it seems that this attitude really shows to the world how low Muslims go--I mean the lowest of moral and ethics. It is almost disgusting to see that what they are capable of. I mean from another post this person says the where ever the Jews go there is death and destruction.

Thank you, Infidel Pride. There are so many of these appalling cases that it is impossible to keep track of them all.

I never thought I'd see the day when I felt that visiting a communist country wouldn't be that bad.
I think, however, that compared to a muslim-occupied country, any place would seem like heaven.
The ONLY hope for muslims is the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ. HE can forgive their sins and actually bring their souls to life.
But oh, how the devil in them fights that, because that devil KNOWS that it is true! The devil known as "allah" MUST release his grip on the heart of the muslim when that muslim calls on the Name of Jesus Christ.
In fact, the devil known as "allah" will one day bow the knee in submission to Jesus Christ as Lord and Master of all.
And even though mohammad was truly a very evil man, it gives me no joy to know that he has been burning in hell ever since he left this life.
