There's that child marriage again. But it has nothing, mind you, nothing to do with Islam. Except the inconvenient matter of Muhammad's marriage to Aisha (Bukhari 5.58.234). "Saudi group seeks to prevent sexagenarian from marrying child," from Deutsche Presse Agentur, July 16:
Riyadh - Saudi Arabia's national human rights body asked the authorities to prevent the marriage of a sexagenarian to a 10-year old girl, saying it would be a violation of an international convention, a local newspaper reported on Wednesday. The National Human Rights Association (NHRA) asked the legal authorities in the central Hayil province to prevent the marriage, The Saudi daily al-Watan said.
The couple to be wed went to the local hospital for the mandatory pre-marriage test, triggering concern among the medical staff.
The NHRA spokesman, Zuhair al-Harithi, told the newspaper that such a marriage would violate the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which was signed by the kingdom.
Under Saudi law, however, there is no minimum legal age for marriage in accordance with a strict version of Islamic sharia law enforced in the country. A male guardian, usually the father, must give his consent to the marriage.
Saudi Arabia established the non-governmental NHRA, the first of its kind, four years ago to implement international human rights agreements signed by the kingdom.
The main obstacle: Sharia law.

Well at least this guy did one better than Muhammad who married Aisha at 6 years of age. But still this is pedophilia and disgusting. Hey to them he is emulating the grand master of rape, murder, robbing, lying, etc.

Allaah has commanded us to refer matters to His judgement and to establish Sharee‘ah, and He has forbidden us to rule with anything else, as is clear from a number of aayaat in the Qur’aan, such as the aayaat in Soorat al-Maa’idah (5) which discuss ruling according to what Allaah has revealed, and mention the following topics:
The command to rule according to what Allaah has revealed: “And so judge between them by what Allaah has revealed . . .” [aayah 49]
Warning against ruling by other than what Allaah has revealed: “. . . and follow not their vain desires . . .” [aayah 49]
Warning against compromising on any detail of Sharee‘ah, no matter how small: “. . . but beware of them lest they turn you far away from some of that which Allaah has sent down to you . . .” [aayah 49]
Forbidding seeking the ruling of jaahiliyyah, as is expressed in the rhetorical question “Do they then seek the judgement of (the Days of) Ignorance?” [aayah 50]
The statement that nobody is better than Allaah to judge: “. . . and who is better in judgement than Allaah for a people who have firm Faith?” [aayah 50]
The statement that whoever does not judge according to what Allaah revealed is a kaafir, a zaalim (oppressor or wrongdoer) and a faasiq (sinner), as Allaah says: “. . . And whoever does not judge by what Allaah has revealed, such are the kaafiroon.” [aayah 44]; “. . . And whoever does not judge by that which Allaah has revealed, such are the zaalimoon (polytheists and wrongdoers)” [aayah 45]; “. . . And whoever does not judge by what Allaah has revealed (then) such (people) are the faasiqoon (rebellious or disobedient).” [aayah 47].
The statement that it is obligatory for the Muslims to judge according to what Allaah has revealed, even if those who seek their judgement are not Muslim, as Allaah says: “. . . And if you judge, judge with justice between them. . .” [aayah 42]

What is the law in the United States? If this 60-year-old Saudi marries his 10-year-old bride, and then brings her on a honeymoon to New York, could he be arrested for child molestation? When she turns a chirpy 13, will it be okay?

And what "mandatory pre-marriage test" might that be? Would it be, as the Viagra commercials say, to see if the sexegenarian bridegroom is "healthy enough for sexual acivity"? Hell no--it's to *confirm the bride's virginity*. A little ten-year-old girl--never mind that if she were not a virgin, it would just mean that some other pedophile had got to her first.
I am glad that the hospital staff showed some decency, at least in such an egregious case--I'm sure it took a certain amount of courage. You do have to wonder how many horrors they see everyday, though, without batting an eye.

The pre-marital testing is for sickle cell anemia, a genetic disease with a high incidence in Saudi Arabia.

You may well be right--I haven't been able to find anything definitive on exactly what sort of pre-marital testing is mandated in Saudi Arabia. Virginity testing is extremely common in Muslim countries, however.

I don't think that they feel the need to use a doctor for virginity testing. The traditional test is whether the woman bleeds when the marriage is consummated. They also have the woman examined by the older women.
Testing for sickle-cell anemia is apparently mandatory in some provinces of Saudi Arabia, optional in others, which I find a little surprising given the generally very top-down political structure. Anyhow, if you google for "sickle cell
anemia" or "pre-marital testing" and "Saudi Arabia" you'll find a number of articles about this.
