UK Muslim youth to be taught good citizenship skills

If freedom of speech is a prized right of the UK's citizenry, does the following mean that Muslims will be taught that it's ok to openly discuss Islam---indeed, even draw cartoons of its prophet? "Citizenship class for young Muslims," from the Press Association, July 18:

Young Muslims will be taught citizenship in mosque schools as part of a bid to prevent them being turned into extremists, the Government said.

Trials of the new lessons will begin in several cities at the start of the new term in September, said Communities Secretary Hazel Blears.

The initiative - designed to show youngsters there is no conflict between their religion and being British - is part of a package of measures due to be published.

This may prove problematic: according to one study, 81% of the Muslim youth living in Britain identify themselves as Muslim first, British second; and a full 1/3 of British Muslims say they would prefer living under sharia instead of British law.
It also includes a new independent board of academic and theological experts and a group of community leaders to advise on local responses to tackling extremism.

"We have made significant progress working with communities to build an alliance against violent extremists," Ms Blears said.

"We have a responsibility to ensure that our young people are equipped with the skills they need to stand up to violent extremists and this project will help them understand how their faith is compatible with wider shared values and that being a good Muslim is also compatible with being a good citizen in the UK."

Short of being a Muslim or a student of sharia, how can Ms Blears make such a bold statement? How does she know that "their faith is compatible" and that being a "good Muslim" is synonymous with being a "good citizen in the UK"? More well-meaning hot air.
Officials said mosque teachers in London, Leicester, Birmingham, Oldham, Rochdale and Bradford would be trained in using the new materials over the summer.

Last month the Government published a national "de-radicalisation" programme including advice to town halls to consider mapping their areas religion by religion and ensuring they had systems in place to remove funding or other support from inappropriate groups.

"....consider mapping their areas religion by religion...."

I'd like to see how that goes. If the UK is like the US it'll never happen-the gods of PC are against profiling.

Blears is quite a hoot-she seems to think that if she wishes long and hard enough a sow's ear will turn into a silk purse. If wishful thinking is government's answer to the problems of Islamania then we are indeed doomed.

It's one more attempt to sweep back the tide. The tide is what those same Muslims can read, or hear being recited from in the mosques, or on the street: the Qur'an, the Hadith, the Sira.

How does the government, how do these government-grant-grasping imams in these "moderate" mosques propose to get around or overlook or ignore that?

I think any muslim who prefers living under the Sharia Law should be offered a one-way ticket to any country that practices it.

I'd chip in.

Gosh you know what it sounds like all this training for Muslims, training for good UK citizenship classes, have religious meetings to further understand Islam. All these special funding and aid to Islamic countries to win the hearts of the Muslims. Wow! I really do not think any other group is getting so much attention. It is like becoming a parenting class. Why are there no special citizenship classes for Hindus, Jews, Buddhists, Sikhs, etc. What is it about Muslims that they need good citizenship classes? Does it have to do with the fact that infidel laws are inferior to Sharia and Islamic laws.

Being a Muslim doesn't even make good citizens in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan or Saudi Arabia. The nation-state doesn't agree with devout Muslims. Which appeals to our new Tranzi overlords even though Islam will utterly destroy their anti-nation global fantasy model.

The "better" the Muslim, the more devout and avid attendee of Friday prayers, the more likely it is that the person will reject western societal norms be a spawn for violence.

I think it was Debbie Schlussel's website that some time ago mentioned behavioral markers which were common amongst these Muslims most likely to plan attacks, etc.

Look, these people are taking cover all over the west with a fig leaf known as religion. We need to expose this obsession as Sharia, a system of laws incompatible with the Golden Rule, and completely opposite to democracy and standards of civilised decency. Forget the relgious track--they've beaten us at our own PC game.

Teach them social skills? I suggest this:

After years of banging the multi-culti drum which has been heavily enforced by Government agencies telling us to emphasise our differences and our right to live unintegrated in British society, they're now desperately back-peddling after they've realised that they've created a lot of cuckoos who are fouling the nest. Of course, the sane people amongst us were lone voices in the wilderness for years and were labelled as "racists."
