Indonesia: Thousands of Christians take to the street against application of Islamic law

Anti-dhimmitude in Indonesia. "Thousands of Christians take to the street against application of Islamic law," by Mathias Hariyadi for AsiaNews, August 8 (thanks to C.C.):

Jakarta (AsiaNews) - More than 3,500 Christians have protested in Jayapura, the capital of Indonesian Papua, against the introduction of sharia, Islamic law, in the region.

The demonstration of a few days ago was organized by the Indonesian Christian Communication Forum, and took place to the cry of "Papua Pancasila, yes. Papua Syariat Islam, no!". Pancasila, literally "the five basic pillars", is the official ideology of the state founded on modern democratic principles like freedom of expression and of religion. Recently in Jakarta there has been talk of introducing sharia in Indonesia. The Christians of the province object that Papua enjoys special legal autonomy, which would prevent the introduction of such law without local approval.

The demonstrators went to the offices of the provincial government, where Tedjo Suprato (who is standing in for the governor Barnabas Suebu, a Catholic, in Mexico on official business) reassured them that Islamic law will not be adopted in Papua....

We'll see.

Good for them!

I don't envy these Christians their difficulties, but in a way, I envy their clear and present threat.

Beats the hell out of the stealth jihad here, in the US. By the time every American understands what sharia is, it may be too late to organize protests.

We may have to skip that phase, and go into the neighborhood, home, and family defense mode.

Those are great points, Abscedere. Here in "Stealth Jihad Land," the USA, it's so hard to sit quietly while the Stealth Jihad creeps. Yet, there are no street protests or demonstrations here (yet), so I guess what one does is private protest - such as notifying Tyson Foods of no longer buying their products. Which many of us did.

Indonesia sits on the Ring of Fire of the Pacific, and we can hear rumblings below. Might Indonesia split and rip apart because of its Islamic agenda, where the various cultural groups rebel against the state in Jakarta? It happened in E. Timor, and with little encouragement from the religious oppressors, it may spread to other parts of the archipelago. The Indonesians I met are some of the loveliest people full of joy. So to lift the yoke of Islam from them would be a welcome change, even if the country splits apart politically.

NO...as honest christians...you have to show the other cheek first --Mohammedan hindenberg

Excuse me, but no matter what, we're not going to let the Barbarian Mohammedans run roughshod over us. As you people have no "love your enemies" teaching, all bets are off. Fight fire with fire.

Good for them, We all need to stand with our sisters and Brothers in this fight for the ideals of a God of Love against the ideals of total evil on earth.

God is watching the muslims of madness and the gates of hell are opened for you muslims people who hate God people.

The Christians - and animists - in Papua have been copping it for a long time.

And, by the way, the percentage of Christians in the province was about 73 % according to my [Christian] source. Another estimated 10 % of the population practise traditional Papuan animistic religion.

The Muslims stood at 16 % in 2001 - they've doubtless increased since then, using the hegira technique to flood the place with Muslim 'immigrants' (INVADERS by any other name). So why the hell should sharia be introduced - unless to allow the Muslim minority to tyrannise over the non-Muslim majority, even more thoroughly and obnoxiously than they've already been doing?

They have been up to all sorts of tricks - burning churches, killing priests and pastors, the usual. Not to mention gutting the forests and generally looting and wrecking all available resources, while ruthlessly dispossessing the indigenous inhabitants. Classic Imperialism, Muslim style.

West Papuans are ethnically Melanesian, not Malay. The whole province logically belongs with Papua-New Guinea, both culturally, historically, geologically and ecologically. It doesn't belong with Indonesia AT ALL. The people didn't want to join Indonesia in 1963; the Dutch didn't want to hand it over to Indonesia. Maybe if Geert Wilders gets to be prime minister of the Netherlands the Dutch will find their backbone and step in to help the Papuan warriors boot out the Muslim jihadists, lock stock and barrel.

Here's a story from Australian news, earlier this year. It's a masterpiece of disgusting moral equivalencing and refusal to recognise what is really happening.

Papua religious conflict being overlooked: ICG
Posted Tue Jun 17, 2008 7:09am AEST

'The International Crisis Group (ICG) is warning of conflict between Muslims and Christians in Indonesia's Papua province unless greater efforts are made to reduce communal tension.

'ICG Jakarta-based senior adviser Sidney Jones says there is a perception among Christians in Papua that Jakarta is pursuing a deliberate policy of Islamisation.

'Dr Jones has told ABC's AM program that the tensions are being overlooked and need to be managed more effectively.

"Either we can see an eruption of localised conflict or we can see greater support for, for example, separatism on the part of particularly indigenous Christians who feel that their concerns are not being addressed," she said.'

There is so much wrong with this report, starting with the headline, which should have read 'World Ignores Jihad Against Non-Muslims in Papua'.

'Conflict between Muslims and Christians'...hmmm. It would have been more truthful to write: 'Muslim harassment of Christians', or even 'Muslim attacks on Christians', or 'the Muslim campaign against Christians'.

And that weaselling phrase, 'communal tensions' that primly assumes complete moral equivalence between the attackers, belonging to an imperial/ colonising group (Muslims) and the indigenous defenders (the Christians, and animists also).

Me, I completely support the Christians' (and animists') desire to separate from Indonesia, because Indonesian Muslim rule has brought them nothing but grief, and promises much more of the same in future.

Funny, isn't it? Papuan Christian 'separatism' appears, in this article, to be seen as BAAAD; I wonder what the 'International Crisis Group' thinks about 'separatism' of Muslims in Mindanao or Muslims in southern Thailand?

Who runs the 'International Crisis Group'?

You presume so much, hindenberg, I don't know where to start.

Christians (and atheists, Hindus, Buddhists, Jews, agnostics, Wiccans, Druids, neo-pagans, animists) in America are, at this very moment, turning the other cheek, and getting it slapped, as would be expected when dealing with Mohammedans. I think we're almost done, now. We're starting to get irritated.

I don't have a Muslim son-in-law, nor do I have a Muslim daughter-in-law. None of my kin are Muslims. I haven't a clue as to what would make you think they were.

"The demonstrators went to the offices of the provincial government, where Tedjo Suprato (who is standing in for the governor Barnabas Suebu, a Catholic, in Mexico on official business) reassured them that Islamic law will not be adopted in Papua...." from the article above)

You can't trust the Muslims. That's what they promised when they first introduced sharia in Aceh, the first province to go Sharia. They said it'd only be for Muslims. But the first day Sharia went into effect, they closed down 17 churches in Aceh and not long afterwards made the leaders sign what amounts to a dhimmi document, agreeing to their freedom of religion being severly restricted for the sake of 'harmonious relationship between the people'. Huh!

West Irian was ceded to Indonesia by the Dutch due to pressure by the Amrican government who believed that Sukarno, the Indonesian president at that time would be their ally in stopping communism in S.E. Asia. Indonesia had to hold a referendum one year after the handing over, but not only did they do it a few years afterwards, but it was fraudulent on top of that!

There used to be hardly any Muslims in West Papua, but with transmigration and the government sending Muslim employees to West Irian, their numbers are steadily growing. And I hear that the jihadists are actively sending more people there.

The Indonesian government has exploited the enormous wealth of he island and totally neglecting the welfare of the local people.

...........................

The official ideology of Indonesia is known as *the five basic pillars?" As in "five pillars of Islam"? Well, I'm not sure I would find that reference entirely reassuring, even without the history of East Timor and Aceh and general creeping Shari'ah in Indonesia.

Good for these non-Muslims in Papua. They are standing up, and not acting the dhimmi.

OK; turn the other cheek and then blow them away if they try to hurt you (and they will, sooner or later!).

message to darcy:

I thought you might like to know that there most definitely ARE public protests in America against Islam's creeping influence here! Perhaps the most visible of these demonstrations are those put together by the United American Committee (aka the UAC which has a website that has a link to JW). On August 2 of this year (last week), the UAC held a public demonstration at the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Los Angeles which I wanted but was unable to attend -- and this organization does others with at last some regularity.

In New York there are ongoing anti-jihad demonstrations that are often covered by the gutsy Pamela "Atlas" Geller of the Atlas Shrugs website (which is highly recommended and also has a link to this website).

I recommend that you become a member of the UAC and stay tuned to the "ATLAS SHRUGS" website especially if you feel Americans aren't combatting Islam's onslaught vigorously enough (these sites also may provide at least some reassurance that there's real vigor in the anti-jihad resistance here in America). You may even wish to become involved in some of the public anti-Islam demonstrations covered by each site.
