Danish Intelligence to ban words like "jihad," "Islamism," "fundamentalism," and "mujahidin"

Deja vu. Is this "atonement" for the dreaded cartoons? "Denmark tries to clean up terror talk," from UPI, August 15:

COPENHAGEN, Denmark, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- The Danish Intelligence Agency has introduced new guidelines for discussing terrorism, advising authorities to avoid words like jihad and martyr.
How original!
Anja Dalgaard-Nielsen is head of protective security for the agency, which is known by its Danish acronym PET.
As in fawning to Islam?
She said that the goal is to avoid legitimizing terrorism or tying the majority of non-violent Muslims to terrorists, the Copenhagen Post reported.

"Terrorist groups often try to legitimize their actions by associating them with religion, using words such as jihad," she said. "However, a jihad also has peaceful and positive meanings, and it is unfortunate if the authorities repeat it and strengthen the extremists' use of the word."

Sure, according to one professor, Bruce Lawrence, jihad really means "being a better student, a better colleague, a better business partner. Above all, to control one's anger."
"Language Use and the Fight Against Terror" also suggests avoiding Islamism, fundamentalism and mujahedin.

Karsten Lauritzen, head of the parliamentary integration committee, said that PET is being naive if it thinks that language changes will conquer terrorism. But he said that officials should be accurate -- that sharia, for example, has a far broader meaning than non-Muslims typically give it.

Dear Professor Lawrence,

Jihad *really* means: Islamic Holy War.

If we would have called the Nazis something else before the war... would that have made them nicer?

someone should inform the professor that Muslims do not want to control their anger.....they want to display and use it to enforce their demands upon the non Muslims!

Sure, control one's anger all the way into the side of the WTC.

A good muslim is a dead one.

You know, I would be all for this kind of thing, if it meant belittling the efforts of the enemy. To refuse to give jihad the dignity of being jihad, would be a lovely thing-- Jihadists (and Islam) can't tolerate being belittled, ridiculed, or humiliated.

They should be treated with contempt, as dangerous little boys playing with real guns. Plus, they'd really have to strain their vocal cords to declare their enmity for the rest of humanity, and maybe the rest of humanity would finally hear them.

Unfortunately, it would also lull the everyday civilian into thinking that there's nothing going on, no reason to be alert, and no reason to be vigilant.

"... She said that the goal is to avoid legitimizing terrorism ..."
=========================================

And not using the term "jihad" would de-legitimize the terrorist tactics of Islamist thugs and therefore make them stop blowing themselves up in the marketplace? ... uh ... my apologies to Ms. Dalgaard-Nielsen, but I really don't see these guys checking the approved terrorist-terminology-du-jour before deciding to self-detonate.

Just how does she propose this would this work? "Dang, the Infidels aren't calling it jihad this week, so I can't blow myself up for the glory of Allah" ? Don't see it happening that way, lady....

"I am made victorious by terror" doesn't care what labels we use.
