I just canceled my plans to vacation in lovely Qom.
Sharia Alert: "Iran: Beating up tourists in Shiraz," from the National Council of Resistance of Iran, August 24 (thanks to Islamo-Nazism):
Last week six women and a man touring the southern city of Shiraz were beaten and arrested. The State Security Forces (SSF) – mullahs' suppressive police – Chastity Unit patrolling the streets stopped a group of East Asians touring the city for not observing the strictly imposed dress code. Not having a translator, the group resisted the SSF agents and was severely beaten and arrested. The Asian tourists then spent a few hours at the SSF custody before finally being released by their country's embassy.
This was not an isolated incident of the kind. In the past year there have been tourists harassed by the SSF enforcing the dress code in line with the suppressive "boosting public security plan."...

Iran has tourists? who are they? escapees from a mental institution...Why would anyone in with half a brain want to go to a Muslim dominated land?
"The State Security Forces (SSF) – mullahs' suppressive police – Chastity Unit"????
just another code name for radical Islamists looking for any reason to attack anyone for anything...real or imagined..
The ""boosting public security plan."...???...A plan to simply boost the Islamic Mens violent egos and 7th century ideals?...

Like pulsar, I too am in shock that Iran has tourists. If this is the case, out of courtesy shouldn't the mullah's have a big sign in the airports showing proper dress and then have a shop available to immediately by the appropriate clothing. It could be called "Tents-R-Us".(my apologies to Toys-R-Us) And all along the way from the customs desk to the store will be the SSF making sure it is followed. Oh, wait, that makes sense so it can't be done. Ol' Mo probably didn't do anything like this also so it cannot be done.

Good-any fool going to Iran deserves to have the stupidity beaten out of them. And if they're a Koranist, then so much the better.

C'mon you guys, this is no different than the Ghost Walking Tour I took last week when I was on vacation in a Southern beach town. It's just that in Iran, you get to experience the joys of being an Iranian and living under the care and attention of that dear and gentle leader, Ahmadinejad. It's kind of like being on a reality show. Just think, I didn't get to see the inside of a jail while I was away, oh wait a minute, maybe I did? It was a dungeon in an old house but I got to look down at it from above, not be thrown into it.
I guess you just have to decide how interactive you want your vacation to be. But seriously, it doesn't bode well for Iran's, "Come have a Sharia filled holiday with us" campaign to attract tourists. Not to worry though, Ahmadinejad can always get by on his personality. ; )

LMAO!
My thoughts exactly, but so well put.
Seriously, what did they expect?

Good. Maybe it'll wake a few up.
They should make the women wear Burkas and walk 10 paces behind the men.

From above: Iran has tourists? who are they? escapees from a mental institution...
No, it was just a hard choice between Iran and Northern Pakistan...Both big on tourism...right behind North Korea...

I just canceled my plans to vacation in lovely Qom.Damn! Just when I was thinking of asking you to bring back some lovely photos, if not videos, of that well from which the Mahdi is supposed to emerge.
Maybe you could still go in a chador, or a jilbab ;-)

Yep. And naive enough to go hang out in iran. I wonder if their State dept. will issue a travel advisory or are they really dependent on iranian oil?
How independent is the Japanese press I wonder..

Here's a good one:
Riazat Butt writes on the Guardians' CIF that her sister who was in ninja garb, including niqab (whole face covered), was insulted by a man in a shop, who called her a ninja woman. She then called him a lying bigot. Now they want the readers to tell them what she should have said. Funny thing was, she moaned - 'people never say things to your face'

But John, the Jovian Brain-Purge requires that the subject at least have a brain. I'm afraid that the equipment will just enter into a violent feedback loop when hooked up to any mullah, SSF, or person that thinks Iran is a quality vacation destination. We could lose the entire machine including it's cold water fusion reactor.
And since the subject has been brought up, we need new choppers, the world is onto our use of the black ones.

From StephenA55's article posted on August 27, 2008 at 11:25am:
"My sister wears a face veil because it is something she wants to do. She knows not all Muslim women feel the same and she is not on a mission to force others to adopt the same dress code as her. She is not breaking the law. She is, as she sees it, minding her own business, being a mother and bringing up her children. My question is: the next time someone calls her a name, how should she respond?"
LOL. This woman is not minding her own business. She is definitely getting in the face of those she meets on a daily basis. Deliberately provoking a confrontation, she has a lot of nerve whining about the reactions she gets from people she sought to provoke in the first place. ("Lying bigot" is simply to amusing for words.) If she would be willing to take off the face veil, I'd be happy to say it to her face.
One last thing, wearing the face veil because she wants to is not different than someone making a negative comment about her doing so, because THEY want to.

Isabella,
My thoughts are about the same as yours.
I skimmed through some of the other comments over there, and there was one by 'Freewoman' which I think is worth copying here, as it sums up a few things nicely:
It is a selfish and aggressive thing to do. It frightens people and sets her apart. We have a history of women who wished to set themselves apart. They became contemplative nuns but they never covered their faces. We have never had a history of somene setting themselvesapart from our norms of contact and interaction like this while staying in the public sphere. If someone dresses in an extreme manner they know what they are doing and have to take their lumps.
On the one hand our soldier sons are being killed in Afghanistan by the Taliban who wish to impose the veil and kill women by the thousands. In Pakistan women have acid in their faces for not being covered enough. Wearing the veil is selfish narcissistic and rude.
rudeness is always deplorable but it isnt just the rudeness coming at her that is deplorable.
