UK: first "official" sharia court finally open for business

What was but a glimmer of hope for the Muslim community two years ago, has finally come to fruition. Imagine the inroads sharia will make in two decades?

"Sharia law at Muslim college in Nuneaton," from Coventry Telegraph, September 8:

The head of a Muslim college in Warwickshire which houses the UK's first official sharia law court has spoke of the advantages of using the ancient system.

Faisal Aqtab Siddiqi said despite misconceptions, the system would work with British law to solve disputes and could "enrich" the current legal system. Mr Siddiqi is head of the Hijaz College Islamic University in Nuneaton - home of the Muslim Arbitration Tribunal (MAT).

The tribunal, formed last year, offers ways for the Muslim community to resolve disputes in accordance with the sacred laws.

I cannot believe what I am reading.

Just great...can anyone say "Blasphemy trials?"

The Brits have lost their collective minds. (And probably will be losing their collective heads next.)

Enrich? Oh, as in allowing honour killings, amputation of limbs and punishing women when they get raped by men?

Ok, I get it now.

What I can't believe is that this isn't on the regular "news" here in the US.

Oh, that's right. It's "just for the Muslim community"; no harm in it. You know, like rabbinical courts.

Uh-huh.

Now Muslims all over the planet will be expecting Sharia Courts. Precedence knows no borders really, at least not with Islam. Of course, blind leftards will be pleased to accommodate them and accommodate the rest of us into hell holes. Maybe when their 'moral equivalence' yields heads rolling in the streets, they will get the message?

What will happen to apostates from Islam?

Shariah courts will never happen in Australia.

England: from the Magna Carta to this. Soon to be a republic lost...reminds of Cicero's lament of the lost Roman Republic 2000 years ago.

Just noted the last entry of the original article, where mr Siddiqi say´s that even the Hell's Angles could form a court to settle their internal differences. I´m sure that was a jokingly way for him to say that he feels the British system works just fine in respect to muslim "needs" and every other special interest needs.

But the irony is that he compares islam and a sharia court to the Hell's Angles and their problems to figure out and agree on a Yamaha technical manual... He sure must hold sharia in high esteem.

The scary part is that he is comparing two groups that obviously are trying to live as out-law cultures in the western world and both islam and the "angels" don´t share power with non-members.

As I said here they are practising taqyiia when they say they are "official".
They can call themselves a tribunal but they are NOT a part of the Tribunal Service of England and Wales.
They are not part of the Court Service or the Ministry of Justice.
Their claims as to their "status" are misleading.

That word 'enrich' just about says it all. Enriching the current system with Sharia means first blending, then replacing the current legal system with Sharia...Sharia is not complete until it is complete...

This stunt (Sharia courts) was floated in Ontario several years ago. Two demonstrations at Queen's Park (the Ontario legislature) by a wide spectrum of citizens forced the Liberal government to backtrack quickly. Don't the Brits have any backbone left?

"Anarchy in the UK" - who knew Johnny Rotten was a prophet?

"Whilst being interviewed about the barbarism usually associated with the term ‘Shari’a’ - beheadings, public floggings and hands being chopped off - Faisal Aqtab Siddiqi, the college Head, said: ‘British society was not ready for such punishments’." [implying, indeed assuming, that one day British society will be ready, is something this enlightened jurist, eschewing dissimulation, seems perfectly happy to do]

also:

"...unlike the informal Shari’a courts which have operated within the context of local mosques for years, the Muslim Arbitration Tribunal has ‘binding legal status’. Mr Siddiqi triumphantly declares: “We can therefore, for the first time, offer the Muslim community a real and true opportunity to settle disputes in accordance with Islamic sacred law with the knowledge that the outcome as determined by the Muslim Arbitration Tribunal will be binding and enforceable.”

This is apparently because ‘decisions challenged by the losing party will be upheld by a county court bailiff or high court sheriff. The Nuneaton-based tribunal cannot force anyone to come within its jurisdication. But once someone agrees to settle a dispute at the tribunal, he or she is bound in English law to abide by the court’s decision’.

However, this appears to be predicated on the court’s decisions being ‘reasonable’." [Dear God!]
