Saudi Arabia: 8-year-old files for divorce

An update on this story. "Saudi Arabia: 8 Year-Old Files For Divorce, Judge Takes Time," from ANSAmed, September 10 (thanks to Insubria):

(ANSAmed) - RIYADH, SEPTEMBER 10 - A Saudi judge asked to decide on the request for divorce between an eight-year-old girl and a man of 50 has taken his time until December 20 to rule on the case, a lawyer of the family said. The hearing on the divorce request, filed by the mother of the girl, was held yesterday in the town of Unaizah, 420 kilometres north of Riyadh. Lawyer Abdallah Jtili said that in the hearing the husband reiterated he did not agree with the breaking up of the marriage. "The judge said he wanted to reflect further on the matter and give time to the parties to reach a mutual agreement before ruling on the case," the lawyer said. The marriage of the girl, who does not know yet that she has been given away as bride, was organised by the father....

What is the (Saudi) world coming to? Next thing you know she's going to be smoking cigarettes and hanging out in bars, picking up younger, 6 year old, men.

No worries. If a divorce does occur, the crusty 50-year old man could just marry a 9 year old girl. Or a 10-year old. I'm sure there's plenty of underage girls for him to choose from.

I know it's not a funny situation. Imagine the mother having to file for divorce on behalf of her 8 year old daughter! And apparantly the father literally "sold her out" from under her mother. I hope she gets her divorce, and that no one is killed over it in the meantime.

This pervert actually has some backing from the Qur'an on this situation. Mohammed married Ayesha at the age of six, but did not consummate the marriage until Ayesha had reached the ripe old age of nine. So as long as this pedophile doesn't consummate the marriage until the girl is nine, everything is halal.

Isn't Sharia law just full of surpprises?

Of course the pedophile husband "did not agree with the breaking up of the marriage". No helpless little girl to fondle or torture as the mood strikes? No one to clean up after him and serve his every need? The husband and the father should both be strung up.

Maybe I'm old fashioned but I think an eight year old girl is MUCH to young to decide whether or not she should get divorced.

To give away, as in arranged marriages, trade, loan, or sell one human to another, is slavery, and promotes the idea that humans can be owned.

The only way to own another person is by trickery or force, and then you still don't 'own' them.

You can pretend you own them, you can act like you own them, you may even convince some of them that they are owned, but you do not in reality 'own' them.
This is a self serving delusion that has devastating effects.

As Gibran put it, on children, 'Though they come through you, and they are with you, they are not yours'.

Arranged marriages are not more than slave trading, a change of ownership title and a small monthly payment to the folks...

I will never understand it. What kind of a sick basket even gets turned on by an 8 year old. I know the Koran sanctions it, but it doesn't require it. One has to be incredibly demented to want it. What skills or features does an 8 year old have that could possibly turn a man on. The whole idea is nausiating to me.

Well, it worked in Yemen. Just might work out in Saudi Arabia, too.

Hell seems to be quite chilly today. Cool :)

"The hearing on the divorce request, filed by the mother of the girl.... The marriage of the girl, who does not know yet that she has been given away as bride, was organised by the father...."

So Papa arranged the marriage, but Mama doesn't like it. Sounds like Mama has let herself in for a good beating.

Or maybe Mama has the balls that Papa doesn't.
