MOGADISHU (AFP) — Islamists in a town in southern Somalia have imposed Sharia law in line with their vow to bring back Islamic theocracy to areas where they were ousted two years ago, a spokesman said Friday.Not to mention razing defenseless churches that were there primarily to assist the impoverished Somalis.The Mujahideens of Southern Somalia, a group allied to the radical Shebab movement on Thursday named a 23-member board to enforce the law in Celwaq, about 650 kilometres (400 miles) southwest of Mogadishu.
"This administration will govern the town using laws of the Holy Koran," its spokeman Mohamed Osmail Indhobur told AFP.
Celwaq, near the border with Kenya, is home to tens of thousands of people, boosted by refugees who have fled fighting in the rest of Somalia.
It has escaped much of the civil war, but local militia allied to Islamists have moved in to plug a power vacuum in recent weeks.
Islamist fighters, accused of ties to Al-Qaeda, gained control of the southern port of Kismayo five weeks ago after battles that claimed dozens of lives.
Islamists were ousted from southern Somalia early 2007 after battles with Ethiopia-backed Somali forces, ending their brief administration that had imposed Islamic law.
But they have turned to guerrilla attacks on Ethiopian, Somali and African Union peacekeepers, mainly in Mogadishu, and have had some success.
When in power in 2006, the Islamists carried out executions, shuttered cinemas and photo shops, banned live band music, flogged drug offenders and harassed civilians, mainly women, for failing to wear appropriate dress in public.In addition, they banned foreign music, romances between unmarried teens, all commerce and public transport during prayer times and decreed that Muslims who do not pray daily can be punished by death.

Yep, you got your third world country whose inhabitants have nothing, there are no schools and hospitals, there is nothing except the daily struggle for existence.
But instituting Sharia Law will make it all better.

If that's what they want, let them have it. We cannot afford another UN "mission to bring democracy" to the people of Somalia.

Well, those people better not forget to pray daily. That's really important to the Islamic in charge. Allah 'need's' those prayers'. They are what keeps him alive. Allah feeds on them...Ten billion prayers a day, and growing...Allah's hunger is never satisfied...
If all the muslims in the world missed a whole day of prayer on the same day, Allah would nearly die of starvation. Two days in a row, would finish him off. I don't think this will happen soon, it's only a goal to aspire to.
Without the prayers the Quran becomes dead words, the prophet meaningless, and Islam a waste of time. The demise of Islam...

P.S. Don't help the Somalis. They will hate you for it.
If we could get all the Muslims back into their sandboxes (and drag all non Muslim aid workers and clergy, and citizens, back to civilization), I would move that we never hear another news article about how Muslims are treated.
The only thing in an Islamic regime that is pertinent to the Western world, is what kind of weapons they have, what kind they plan to manufacture, and whom they plan to hit, first.
Let them keep their "modesty", in home-beatings, stonings, beheadings, public floggings, and amputations to themselves. Where Muslims go, Islam follows, and I, for one, would rather not see these things happen in my world. They belong in the Muslim world, if they belong anyplace.

OT, but it seems as though civil war has already started in Europe.
