Mattel defends Islamic proselytizing doll

"Islam is the Light"?

Mattel insists the doll does not say "Islam is the Light," and thus, even though numerous complaints have been lodged, will keep it on the shelf. Judge for yourself (above) what it says. One wonders, however, what Mattel would have done if a number of Muslims complained saying their "Baby-Coo" doll, in between gibberish, manages to sneak in something of a "Christ is Lord"? Would Mattel have responded similarly? More on this story.

"Mattel says talking doll doesn't promote Islam," by Christina Hernandez for NewsDay, October, 9:

A cooing baby doll or a toy with a religious message?

The toy company Mattel has fielded calls from consumers who wonder whether their Little Mommy Cuddle 'n Coo doll, which giggles, gurgles and coos, is also mumbling, "Islam is the light."

The doll, which is made in China, has only one scripted word - "mama" - and other sounds are merely baby babble, said Mattel spokeswoman Sara Rosales. The toy, which retails for $19.99 and is meant for ages 2 and up, makes one sound that "may resemble something close to the word 'night,' 'right' or 'light,'" she added.

Word of the doll's alleged proselytizing gained momentum this week after local TV news stations picked up the story and YouTube showed videos of the chatty toy child.

The doll, sold across the country, will not be recalled, Rosales said yesterday. "We remain confident in the standard of our dolls," she said.

Target, which sells the doll, has also received complaints, said spokeswoman Leah Guimond. But, she said, "we're keeping it on our shelves."

It would "not make sense" for a mainstream toy company to produce a doll with a religious message, said Azeem Khan of the Islamic Circle of North America, a national grassroots group in Queens. "Whenever Islam comes up in the public sphere, it's a controversy," he said.

Mattel promoting Islam. Again to the impressionable minds. Target the young and you have "Islam is the light". That is sick. Mattel must withdraw all these dolls from the market.

Boycott Mattel.

Then again, boycott islam and the islamic apologists like Dhimmi Carter and Dinesh

I can't wait to see this doll priced at 75 percent off, after Christmas!

Posted by: Abscedere [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 10, 2008 9:16 AM

However--People are complaining about it. People don't like what it says in its "baby babble". There are people out there who know Islam is not the light, and are on the watch for anything that says it is!

Maybe there's hope.

Ah yes - Islam Is The Light - if little kids hear it enough they will believe it. It makes it so much easier to brainwash people if you start at a very early age.
Give it 10 years and the US will have it's on child Jihadi's just like we now have in the UK.

I'm telling you - the decision has made that Islam must be spread through-out the West by our OWN polititians. No doubt they believe that Christianity is failing and this is why we have so many problems with crime and whatnot - so they have decided that Islam Is The Light that will change things.

It won't.

It really hasn't made majority Muslim countries decent places to live has it?

Watch for the signs people.

Posted by: VampireJack [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 10, 2008 10:13 AM

I'd like to get one that says: Well, Hello, Dawah, yes hello, Dawah, Islam's got you right where you belong.

Posted by: Jewel Atkins [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 10, 2008 11:26 AM

When you have people in several locations reporting the same problem, you look into the problem. Mattel's dismissive response will only guarantee that this doll will sit on the shelves. They must think that any sales of this piece of cr*p is better than recalling the entire batch.

Posted by: 3812Michelle [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 10, 2008 11:35 AM

From the article: "Whenever Islam comes up in the public sphere, it's a controversy," he said.

Really? Now why would that be, I wonder?

Posted by: George Mc. [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 10, 2008 11:46 AM

Well, then, surely Mattel will have no problem releasing to the public the original high definition audio track from which the doll was programmed for review and analysis, as well as their formal transcript of what the verbiage vocalized represents and why they think that, as well as the identity of the professional "babbler" recorded and what their affiliations are. Until then, we also hope that the dolls remain "on their shelves"...permanently.

Islam is controversial ,it calls for my death.

Posted by: Mr.Fitnah [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 10, 2008 12:58 PM

Remember the "TWILIGHT ZONE" episode about a doll called 'Talking Tina' (which at the end kills the father in the episode)?

We have here Mattel marketing an Islamic 'talking Tina' to America. And I am sure many of feel like that desperate father in that TV show episode (I do).

What we need is to market ANOTHER doll that recites the Surah verse 9.5 from the Kuran:"And when the forbidden months have passed, slay the infidels everywhere they are found...." or else says "Islam is legalized murder."

But until we reach that stage, yes, by all means boycott Mattel. They deserve to go out of business over this horror.

I'll wait for the Lil' Baby Hijab'. Or the "Baby Steals A Cookie" complete with removable right hand, or the anatomically correct female genital mutilation playset for girls. Then again, the 'Baby Goes Boom-Boom Suicide Bomber' with action backpack sounds fun, but so does the 'Dolly Needs An Honor Killin'. Come on Mattel, we want our culturally diverse toys!

Well, check out here for a real Muslim doll.

Here's a better script for the doll:

"Hello. My name is Aisha, and I'm 6 years old. Do you want to marry me?"

Whatever you do, just don't name the baby Mohammed!

Let’s hope Western parents don’t seek a refund for their own kids if after hearing them mumble something innocent, yet irks the parents’ bigoted leanings. Maybe the parents were offended by the hijab. It seems like even dolls lost their ‘freedom of speech’ and ‘religious freedom’ after the Patriot Act – In the meantime, I could probably use a few cases of these dolls, (for families of children who don’t fear baby talk) - at wholesale rates of course. 5pillar.wordpress.com

From the mouths of babes.........

I got to go to my Target store and listen to this doll. Then I'll complain.

Posted by: tanstaafl [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 10, 2008 9:15 PM

Perhaps this falls into the paul is dead phenomenom? All mattel needs now is for some person to test the paint and find that the doll is loaded with lead, the accessories are some industrial chemicals and that child labor was used to produce the toy, globalization you gotta love it.

Posted by: stickman [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 11, 2008 1:07 AM

My wife tells me that the paul is dead phenomenom is probably too obscure. Let me explain, some people with probably too much time on their hands found that playing a section of a beatles song backwards sounded like someone saying turn me on dead man.

Posted by: stickman [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 11, 2008 1:14 AM

They dare not recall the doll, imagine the outrage from Muslims if that were to happen, it would be seen as an insult to disagree with the sentiment.
Fact is, the doll is 'babbling' "Islam is the light" LOL. But what can you expect from a brainless automaton? Oh I know, how about "Islam is the religion of peace"

Posted by: Jihadtobejoking [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 11, 2008 3:15 AM

Is that a skullcap that doll's wearing?

Posted by: Stefcho [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 11, 2008 4:25 AM

A mere coincidence?

To me it sounds like Isa (the Muslim name for Jesus) Islam Is The Light.

TOO much of a coincidence.

Too much.

She says it all chant-y, like those lovely throaty consonants that emanate from muezzins for 10 straight seconds at a time, and all repetitively and cultishly too. And she doesn't pronounce it 'izlam,' but with an 's,' like Muslims expect us to do even though that, like 'mooslim' with an 's' instead of a 'z,' is a phonologically impossible contruction in English. It's 'muzlum' and 'izlahm.' Ugh. And of course she's got the dead-cow-cult-member eyes. 28 years ago, when I had baby dolls, they blinked like people with souls do.

Pythagoras, it's more that X-Files episode that ripped off the Twilight Zone in which the doll would say 'I want to play' and everyone in the grocery store started gauging their own eyes out. The family got rid of the doll and then a sailor found it floating in the sea at the end, still talking. He looked all crazed and then it faded to black. So drowning these dolls mat not get the job done. They should get the electric chair for such a treasonous message so their insides get fried. Boycott Mattel and destroy those creepy-ass dolls already.

As someone who was trained by the military to "listen", I spent years listening to radio traffic (transmissions) and have a keen ear where the average untrained individual wouldn't. It is very clear what the doll is saying. Mumblings and laughing aside, that doll is clearly saying "islam is the light". There is no explaining this away and Mattel and Target can say whatever they want to try and minimize it. It is that sort of behavior that only helps further "their" cause and destroy our country.

"...X-Files episode that ripped off the Twilight Zone in which the doll would say 'I want to play' and everyone in the grocery store started gauging their own eyes out."

A piece of trivia, from my trove of useless facts. That episode of the X-Files was written by Stephen King. (Who undoubtedly ripped it off, but they say "there's nothing new under the sun.")

Personally, I was disappointed with it. I expected more originality from King and from Chris Carter.

Good afternoon freedom fighters,

I just got back from a mission at my local Target store where I brought my mom and sister along as witnesses and we listened to the "cuddle and coo" baby doll say "Islam is the light". I made a big stink about it and made sure other mom's walking down that row heard it. They were shocked. So I took this little doll up to the service desk and asked the two teenagers behind the counter to get the manager. They looked a little curious as to what I was doing and so I told them what the doll said and as they listened the young man said, oh wow, and the blonde haired blue eyed girl of about 17 years said to me, oh, Islam isn't what everybody thinks it is. She then proceeded to pull her numerous gold chains out from under her work shirt and showed me that one held a charm that said "Allah". I asked her if she'd ever read the Koran and she told me that she had. (Which was B.S.)

When the manager came she was about 23 years old and told me that there had been talk of a recall from Mattel but that this was the first she'd heard a customer complain. In the meantime, blondie piped up about Islam so I asked her if she understood how women are treated in Islam and she just looked at me like I was so stupid. I told her she needed to go over and live in Morocco or Syria or Saudi Arabia for a month and then tell me all about how women are treated in Islam. Then I asked her if she knew about honor killings and she said she didn't. I asked her if her dad was Muslim and she hung her head and said no. My sister went off on her a little bit (she gets excited when talking about politics or Islam) and the manager told me it wasn't proper for her to talk about this at work and we woould have to call Mattel. I asked her for the manager's number above her but she was vague. So I asked for corporate's number, which she gave me and it ended there, she wasn't going to do any more than that.

On the flip side, the leader of my ACT! for America group went to two different Target's yesterday, pitched a bloody fit and in both store the managers removed the offending dolls. I'm off to my next Target in just a little bit and will continue to try and get it removed. Then Walmart. Then Toys r' Us.

The thing about this doll is it has about three different sets of cooing series. The middle one says "Isa, Isa" and coos some more. Then the third one says "Islam is the light". So it seems like you are just hearing the same thing over and over again but in fact there is a complete sentence. Talk about subliminal messaging. And it gets the job done because the manager told me she didn't hear the sentence but that every time she walks down that isle all the dolls go off. So if you touch it or move it in any way, the doll continues to "talk". If a baby was holding it or playing with it for an hour in the crib it might go off thirty times. What better way to indoctrinate our kids into a religion I don't believe in. Then they'll be primed and pumped when they get into school to hear the message that's in the public school textbooks.

Posted by: Isabellathecrusader [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 11, 2008 4:48 PM

If it said something that sounded like: "Islam is evil" it would have been removed from ALL stores in seconds and the CEO's would be grovelling planetwide.

Sounds like "Islam is the light" to me.

And dolls shouldn't be allowed to promote a lie.

Posted by: profitsbeard [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 12, 2008 1:35 AM

It very clearly says Islam is the light. Last night I went to another Target and got the manager involved. This time there were two men behind the counter who listened and became concerned. The manager was a petite Hispanic lady who was very nice but she couldn't hear the offending sentence. I watched her listening and there was a big question mark above her head. She was very nice and and helpful and she told me that there wasn't any recall yet but that the probably would recall the doll if enough people complained.

At both Targets the managers showed me an e-mail that they had received from Mattel telling them to have customers call their corporate office. At both Targets I was told I was the first one to complain about this but the employees said they knew about these dolls because every time you walk past them they start going off. One of the men told me that sometimes there is a fluke with dolls that talk and there might be the off saying that comes out of the doll. I don't see how that could be the case since every doll I checked in both stores had the same sing-songey phrase. Do they really expect us to believe this was an accident?

Posted by: Isabellathecrusader [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 12, 2008 9:08 AM

As someone who was trained by the military to "listen", I spent years listening to radio traffic (transmissions) and have a keen ear where the average untrained individual wouldn't.

As someone who's trained in phonetics, I agree with you. I have to listen to transcripts and decipher a tap from a flap, an unrounded o from a completely rounded one, if there's dipthonization, if there's palatalization, etc., all in foreign languages. We're working on transcribing an obscure Kenyan language right now. She is clearly saying 'Islam is the light.'

Posted by: jdamn [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 12, 2008 9:35 AM

jdamn-

Exactly.

To add a little weight to my own hearing of it, I was a "cryptologic inteceptor- voice" in the Army, ~ so I was also trained at deciphering sounds (in a foreign language, in code) from jet noises, pulsing static, injected slang, jamming signals, etc., so "Islam is the light" is not something that random sound generation would blurt out by accident.

But, to thank us for this doll propaganda in favor of their cause, Muslims worldwide should be rebuilding all the stuff they destroyed during the MO-TOONS hysteria.

Posted by: profitsbeard [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 12, 2008 12:24 PM

Fisher-Price says the doll isn't saying anything at all.
They say it is just babble. They have made the original sound file available.

Posted by: silent_rage [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 12, 2008 1:27 PM

That's funny, everyone I played it for except one Hispanic lady could hear it plainly and verified it did say that. We need to pitch a bloody fit over this one.

Posted by: Isabellathecrusader [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 12, 2008 8:27 PM

Even if it was just babble that sounds like "Islam is the light", and Mattel didnt do it deliberately, it doesnt change the fact that it still sounds that way. Mattel ought to remedy the problem, take the dolls off the shelves, change their babble, and put them back up. Christian babble that sounded like "Jesus is Lord" would have sure been off the shelves by now! I will be making sure I buy toys that are not Mattel from now on.
