This person is serving time for murder so he of all people should not be allowed any rights over other prisoners and he should be traeted with the likes of other who have committed murder, rape, child molestation and other horrible crimes. Part of this guy's sentence would be to serve him pork products with his meals every day if he wants something special. Prisoners suing for special priveleges is just wrong. They have committed a crime and are there for reason.

Did Mohammmed allow his prisoners special priveleges when he captured any? No, he tortured them first and then killed them. What about the victim's family that was left behind after this murderer killed his victim? The prison system should NOT be a place where special privleges can be granted or sued for. Maybe we should just stone him to death, or decapitate him. Do not people who commit murder in islamic countries face such a fate? It is alaways about islam and accomodation of us to them. Screw that and this guy's request. Our prison systems are bad enough without placating to more attempts at stealth jihad, which is already happening way too often in this country already.

Prison isn't about freedom of expression. Eat what is given. Practice whatever mind tricks are needed to survive. The point of a prison term is for reflection, or if that's impractical, warehousing until the inmate is old enough not to be a threat.

Next thing you know, someone will demand peppermints and candy for Christmas.

Since you are Jewish, then kosher is your need, dont make others bleed. Stay out of jail, so you dont eat pork. Outside of jail you can eat whatever you wish, either halal, kosher or haram.
God only told the Israelites of long ago to not eat pork, the only ones. No Muslim was told not to eat pork, just Jews. Jesus came a long and said eat whatever you want, as God told Noah in Genesis 9:3. When God made the pig on the 6th day he said GOOD. A nice good juicy pork chop would be good right now. The same verse that said no pork said no camel, yet Muhammad said drink camel piss and milk. Jews were told to drink intoxicating liquor, wine, beer too, not Muslims! I prefer the new covenant, where I can eat, drink and be merry. One wife, love neighbor, defend yourself if needed, and preach the word and make a choice if I want to serve God as he gave us a choice. Jews reformed in 1700's, Muslims can never reform. ISLAM MUST GO AWAY

Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves, except those in prison convicted of crimes.

Slaves have no rights.

The problems arose when liberal social engineers decided prisoners needed rights, and went to work getting them some.

These rights have now extended to mean almost anything a prisoner does not like, is a violation of his rights and sue able.

The only rights a prisoner should have is..."Do your time...Keep your mouth shut...Don't cause trouble'.

The only responsibilities the jailer should have is ...'Food, shelter, clothing and medical treatment when necessary.

That's it...everything else in prison should be a tool to control behavior.

One assumes he already has his government paid for prayer rug, and an arrow pointing toward mecca, so he doesn't send his 5 daily prayers in the wrong direction. His diet has already been modified as he is probably not been served pork. As an aside, do you remember the inmate who sued because his cookies were broken? Where do they get these lawyers? Who is paying for this guy's lawyer, the taxpayers or cair?

If I were a fellow inmate, and this Muslim won his suit, I would sue the state for my being served halal meat, as it is against my religion to have Muslim prayers said over an animal that is slowly bleeding to death.

Oh, and if I were the one who had to cook this halal-butchered meat, I would sue the state. If I were the guard or trusty who had to serve the meat, I would sue. If at all possible, I will avoid so much as touching a plate with halal meat on it.

However, I'm an American, and we are nothing if not a litigious society. (Hey, it's my culture!)

Howzabout the prison buy a goat for the Muslim prisoners to have conjugal visits with. Once that goat is really old and used up, butcher it and serve it to this ass-hat as his only means of sustinence until he has consumed the whole animal, but not before making damn sure he knows that his halal is another Muslims harem. Hah!

I think that there is a serious issue here. Of course I couldn't care less if the particular inmate in this case gets his halal food. I would be perfectly happy with a system that says, "You want to follow your own special religious rules? Food, prayer times, holy books, etc? Well then, don't break the law and stay out of jail then you will have no problem." In effect our system would say too bad, you get no accommodations for your belief. But the point is, that this is not our system. We have often accommodated religious practice in prison. Not that I have spent anytime in a prison, but it is my distinct impression that every prison has a chapel, and has ministers, priests, etc. as regular visitors, tending to their "flock." The problem (and it is a Constitutional one), is that while government does not have to be devoid of religion, it cant play favorites. Once the door is open, the same rules apply to all religions. Prisons routinely make kosher food available for Jewish prisoners, it therefore makes perfect (but perhaps regrettable) sense that they cannot deny a Muslim prisoner his halal food. Unless we want to remove the routine benefits that we grant to other religions, Muslim prisoners are going to get the same rights to pray, read their holy books, and yes eat their special food. (I suppose the only limit on this would be if the religious practice would be too disruptive or expensive to provide in a prison setting, ie, if every adult Muslim male must slaughter a goat for Ramadan [I don't think that is true, but take it as a hypothetical], the prison could say no way.)
