It's all fun and games until someone gets turned into a pillar of candy hearts. "Muslims told Valentine’s Day can invoke wrath of God," from the Malaysian Insider, February 10 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 10 — An invitation “to be my Valentine” on February 14 is against Islamic beliefs and would incur the wrath of Allah, Muslims were told today in the official Friday sermon prepared by the federal government.

The sermon warned Muslims against celebrating Valentine’s Day, which the federal Islamic authorities claimed was in breach of the tenets of their religion.

In the text of a sermon provided by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) titled “Awas jerat Valentine” (Beware Valentine’s trap), Muslims were told that asking someone to be his or her “Valentine” could lead to idolatry.

The text of a second optional sermon prepared by the Federal Territory Islamic Department (Jawi), titled “Butakah Cinta?” (Is love blind?), likened celebrating the global day of romance to celebrating the anniversary of “Islam’s fall at the hands of Christians”.

Citing a person named Karl Sweiger who purportedly wrote an article titled, “Should Biblical Christians Observe It?”, Jakim in the text of its sermon said the word “Valentine” originated from Latin and means “The Bravest, The Strongest, The Most Powerful” to refer to ancient Roman gods Nimrod and Lupercus.

The federal Islamic authority said it was wrong to ask someone to be his or her Valentine.

“Whether they realise or not, if a person asks another person or his partner to ‘Be my Valentine?’ it is clearly an act that is against the Islamic faith and that would invoke the wrath of Allah SWT.

“This is because they are asking a person to be their ‘Most Powerful’ this is the same as reviving the culture of idol worship,” the sermon said.

It added that “love can only be to Allah SWT [and to] his prophet”.

A quick search online failed to turn up details on Sweiger’s identity or the alleged article he wrote that Jakim had referred to.

Jakim said that the National Fatwa Council had sat in 2005 and declared that Islam did not sponsor Valentine’s Day, as the spirit of the celebration was mixed with vice activities which Islam forbids.

It urged Muslims to strengthen their faith, family and community through five steps, namely for parents to teach their children Islam’s true path; to forbid Muslims, especially teens from copying pagans; to sow feelings of love for Allah SWT and his prophet; for unmarried Muslims to keep away from mixed company; and to leave celebrations that are not provided for under Islam’s laws.

In the text of the sermon prepared by Jawi, it claimed that February 14 was celebrated as Valentine’s Day to commemorate the victory of the Christian government in an offensive against the Muslim government in Cordoba, Andalusia, which is now modern-day Spain.

“Therefore, is it right for Muslims to celebrate the fall of Islam at the hands of Christians? Should we worship and celebrate the arrogant declaration of a Christian priest?” it asked....

His crime, again, was reported earlier as comparing his poetry to the Qur'an. The Qur'an is adamant that no one can "produce a sura like thereof," and that it has no rival (2:23). The author of the offending tweet has been hunted down like an armed and dangerous fugitive terrorist and captured in Malaysia after Saudi King Abdullah ordered his arrest.

An update on this story. "Sacrilegious Saudi writer arrested in Malaysia," from Emirates 24-7, February 9 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):

Malaysian authorities arrested a Saudi newspaper writer wanted by the Gulf kingdom for offending Islam and Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon Him) and local reports said he could face death.

Hamza Kashgari was seized as he arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday following his escape from Saudi Arabia on news that King Abdullah has ordered him arrested and prosecuted for religious insults in his articles on Twitter.

“The Malaysian authorities are coordinating with Saudi Arabia to hand Kashgari over,” the Saudi Arabic language daily 'Al Youm' said. In a separate report, newspapers quoted a statement by the kingdom’s Islamic Fatwa Committee calling for punishing Kashgari in line with Islamic law, which means he could be executed.

King Abdullah’s order to arrest the writer, a columnist in the Saudi Arabic language daily 'Al Bilad', followed public furor inside the kingdom over some of his articles, considered as abusive of Islam and the Prophet. “The order came after many scholars, dignitaries and citizens in the kingdom sent messages to the Monarch expressing indignation at Kashgari offences,” 'Ajel' Arabic language daily said on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Saudi Information minister Abdul Aziz Khowja was reported as telling all local newspapers and magazine not to carry any article by Kashgari for what he described as persistent offences against Islam.“I have instructed all newspapers and magazines in the kingdom not to allow him to write any thing and we will take legal measures against him,” he said.

“When I read his articles, I wept and got very angry to have someone in the country of the two holy shrines address our Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) in this offending way,” he added without giving further details.

Newspapers said Khowja’s move came after thousands of readers and schools sent letters to the local media and online demanding Kashgari’s prosecution. After the order, many Saudi newspapers carried a letter written by Kashgari on his Twitter page apologizing for any offence, which he said was inadvertent.

Yesterday was marked here in Malaysia as a holiday; more specifically, the birthday of Islam's lone prophet Muhammad. Malaysia's king, who must of course be a Muslim, and who is known in Malay parlance as the 'Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuan Tuanku', released a public statement for Malaysia's Muslims in regards to Muhammad's birthday. And Malaysia's king has told Malaysians that the problem with Muslims in Malaysia is that Muslims are not following Muhammad's example enough.

So I suppose that means that Muslims need to take and own slaves, marry and rape nine year old girls, execute prisoners of war, stone adulterers to death, hate Jews, beat disobedient wives, assassinate critics, lie, commit larceny, wage imperialistic warfare, and so on and so on. Oh wait, never mind -- it's deeply Islamophobic to point out all these things.

From "King calls on Muslims to emulate Prophet Muhammad", The Star, 5 February 2012:

PUTRAJAYA: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mua'dzam Shah has called on Muslims to emulate Prophet Muhammad's exemplary character in the effort to create an exceptional Muslim society and be a sterling example to the world.

Whose prophet?

He said that in order to achieve that distinction, Muslims should strive to correct the Islamic tasawur (notions) in themselves and those of their family and the society.

“The concept of life of Muslims as the servants and caliphs of Allah, and to regard work or business as an ibadah' (deeds) should be appreciated so that the impact of Islam as a great religion can be felt on a global scale,” he said, when declaring open the national-level Maulidur Rasul celebration at the Putra Mosque, here on Sunday.

I'd say that in this regard, Islam has succeeded handsomely. With more than 18,000 jihadist atrocities and counting since September 11, 2001, the impact of Islam on the world is definitely being felt on a global scale. And all indications point to that impact metastasizing to even larger dimensions in the future.

Killed plying his trade, one might say. And no points for correctly guessing what religion this particular Malaysian followed. Zulkifli Abdul Hir, A.K.A. 'Marwan', was a leader of the jihadist organization known as Jemaah Islamiyah, and the protege of another, perhaps more infamous Malaysian terrorist. Zulkifli's mentor was a notorious bomb maker and mass murderer by the name of Azahari Hussin, another Malaysian terrorist who also died in 2005 while following the violent teachings of Islam. Zulkifli was hardly a poor or ignorant jihadist--he was a telecommunications engineer who was educated in the United States. From "Marwan’s decade-long tale of terror", The Star, 3 February 2012:

PETALING JAYA: Zulkifli Abdul Hir, born in Muar in 1966, was a telecommunications engineer trained in the United States.

Zulkifli, whose aliases included Marwan and Musa, was believed to be the head of the Kumpulan Mujahidin Malaysia (KMM), accused of being a senior member of the regional terror network Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) and blamed for multiple bomb attacks in the Philippines.

He was a protege of JI bomb expert Dr Azahari Hussin, a Malaysian killed by an Indonesian anti-terrorism unit on Nov 9, 2005.

He was wanted for his role in leading KMM in a Southern Bank robbery in Petaling Jaya in May 2001, and the murder of Lunas assemblyman Dr Joe Fernandez and the bombing of a Hindu temple in Pudu, both in 2000.

He fled to Indonesia where he was believed to be involved in the Bali bombing in 2002, which claimed more than 200 lives. It is thought that he then escaped to Jolo Island in Southern Philippines in 2003.

In the Philippines, he cooperated with Abu Sayyaf and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front to attack and bomb several American interests and military bases there.

This led him to being placed in the top 10 list of the world's most wanted terrorists with a US$5mil (M15mil) bounty on his head.

He was also high on the Philippines police's wanted list after two of their personnel were killed in a clash when they attempted to approach his hideout near Manila in August 2006.

Marwan had also been accused of helping to secure funds and weapons for Abu Sayyaf from foreign donors.

In March 2010, the Philippines marines launched an assault against Marwan, killing at least seven al-Qaeda linked militants in a raid at Laminusa Island, off southern Sulu province.

However, he managed to escape.

In October last year, Marwan fled from a military assault by the Philippines, which killed three Abu Sayyaf commanders and two other militants near the Indanan town in southern Sulu province.

His brother-in-law, Taufik Abdul Halim, was caught when he tried to set off a bomb at Plaza Atrium in Jakarta in 2001.

However, he ended up losing part of his right leg when the bomb exploded prematurely.

As it turns out, Zulkifli's mother has already been tracked down and interviewed by the Malaysian media, and she has made it known that she wants her son to come home to Malaysia for a proper (i.e. Muslim) burial. After all, the mentor Azahari had a hero's sendoff when he was buried in his Malaysian hometown, so why not Zulkifli? From "Please bring his body home, pleads mum", The Star, 3 February 2012

MUAR: The mother of Jemaah Islamiyah leader Zulkifli Abdul Hir, who was killed in a raid by the Philippine authorities, wants the body of her long-lost son brought home for burial here.

Aminah Abdul Aziz, 64, who lives in Kampung Jeram Masjid in Bakri, said if it was indeed true that her son had been killed in the Philippines, she wanted the Malaysian and the Philippine authorities to help bring his body back.

“I was shocked to be informed of his death as I have not received any news or heard from him since he left home over 12 years ago.

“He was an engineer with a telecommunications company in Kuala Lumpur. But one day, he came home with his wife and three children. He told me he wanted to send his family to Kluang. Soon after that, he disappeared,” she said at her house.

Zulkifli, also known as Marwan, had a RM15mil bounty on his head and was among those killed during a raid in a militant camp on a southern Philippine island yesterday.

Aminah, who now lives with an Indonesian maid, said she had prayed every day for Marwan's return, hoping that her son would leave the Jemaah Islamiyah struggle.

She said she had been told by relatives and some police personnel that her son had joined the regional terrorist network some years back and was living in the Philippines.

“If it is true that he has died, please bring his body home to Muar,” she appealed.

If the mother has any condemnation of her son's lengthy rap sheet, or any apologies to make on her son's behalf to his many victims, there is nary a sign of it in this piece. But if she's free of troublesome things like guilt or remorse about her son's long list of crimes, that's nothing new -- Zulkifli and his ilk are heroes to many Malaysians and many Muslims.

The death of a terrorist as skilled and murderous as 'Marwan' is always welcome news. The problem is that as long as the agenda of Islamic supremacy remains unaddressed, purposely ignored, and even protected by the government, media, courts, and so on -- not just in Malaysia but also in the so-called 'free world' -- then such deaths are only temporary setbacks for the cause of jihad and Islam. It is only a matter of time -- probably sooner rather than later -- until another pious Muslim takes the late Zulkifli's place.

When Malaysian politicians of all stripes sling mud and hurtle rhetorical slings and arrows at one another, there is one label that is universally considered by all players to be an insult far worse than all the rest. What might that insult be? Being called a racist? Or a bigot? Or a fascist?  No, no, and no again. The ultimate insult in Malaysian politics is to be called a Zionist, or to be seen in any way as a supporter of Israel. This support includes supporting the right of Israel to exist in the first place. In Malaysia, it is a given that all measures taken by Israel to defend itself are by definition war crimes, while all actions undertaken by jihadist organizations like Hamas et al are automatically considered as 'noble' or 'heroic' resistance. These truths are never questioned, at least in Malaysia's public and political sphere.

In a recent demonstration of this unwavering axiom, Malaysia's foreign minister, a man named Anifah, has accused Malaysia's opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim of daring to support Israel's right to exist. In Malaysia, this is quite an incendiary accusation. Anwar was quick to denounce Anifah, and proclaim to the world that, in not so many words, he's a good pious Jew-hating I mean Zionist-hating Muslim, and how dare someone accuse him of such treachery.

From "Anifah: Malaysia does not support ‘all efforts to protect Israel’", by Shannon Teoh, The Malaysian Insider, 29 January 2012:
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 29 — Datuk Seri Anifah Aman insisted tonight that despite supporting a “two-state solution,” Malaysia has never supported Israel in its conflict with Palestine.
Well, isn't that a relief!

The foreign minister said this differed from Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal that he “supports all efforts to protect the security of the state of Israel.”

“His statement clearly shows his acceptance and support for actions taken by Israel against Palestinians up to now.

“Actions interpreted as security measures by Israel include military attacks on Gaza causing the death of thousands of innocent Palestinians including women and children,” the Kimanis MP said in a statement sent to The Malaysian Insider.

Anifah stressed that Malaysia has never supported these actions but joined the global community in condemning Israel that clearly breaches international law.

“Malaysia calls for all parties to find a comprehensive solution that is fair and just based on the ‘Roadmap’ and United Nations (UN) Security Council resolutions whereby both nations can live side-by-side in a peaceful and safe manner,” he added.

Anwar came under heavy fire from Umno and its media after his statement was published by the Wall Street Journal on Thursday.

But the international business daily said Anwar stopped short of saying he would open diplomatic ties with the Jewish state, a step the former deputy prime minister said remains contingent on Israel respecting the aspirations of Palestinians.

And we should all well and truly know by now what those 'aspirations' are.

The opposition leader was forced to defend himself last night by stressing that his remarks in the newspaper meant that he supported a two-state solution as mentioned by Anifah when the latter addressed the UN general assembly in September last year.

But Anifah said today Anwar’s interview “clearly shows full support for all actions taken by Israel to protect its security, unless he is accusing the Wall Street Journal of making a mistake.”

Muslim-majority Malaysia is a staunch supporter of Palestine and has no diplomatic ties with Israel.

Muslim politicians have long vied for support from Malays by denouncing what they say are inhumane acts of aggression by Israel towards its neighbour.

Anwar has previously been attacked as a supporter of the Zionist movement due to his interaction with prominent Jewish figures in the West.

So which does Malaysia support...the right of Israel to exist, or the need to wipe Israel from the map, and to expel or kill all Jews from 'Palestine'? The answer to that should already be obvious.

Infamous Malaysian politician Hasan Ali, who previously spoke out vociferously against solar powered talking Bibles that are allegedly being used to persuade Malaysian Muslims to become Christians, is still 'crusading' (if we can borrow that word) against the rising tide of 'Christianization' in Malaysia.

Wait, I thought Islam is the perfect religion--Muslims never ever tire of saying so--and pious Muslims are unshakeable in their faith.  Muslims endlessly hawk that supposed fact also. Except when they aren't, apparently. Muslims, as it turns out, are enormously susceptible to jumping the ship of Islam if given the slightest opportunity. At least that's what Hasan Ali is telling anyone who will listen; Christian 'treachery' knows no limits, apparently. From 'Hasan Ali: Christians going undercover to convert Muslims', The Malaysian Insider, 28 January 2012:
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 28 — Former Selangor Islamic affairs executive councillor Datuk Hasan Ali claimed today Christian ministers have resorted to handing out electronic gadgets and wearing kopiah (skullcaps) to mosques in their efforts to convert Muslims.

The Gombak Setia assemblyman, who was sacked from PAS and the state government earlier this month, told an anti-apostasy rally in Kepala Batas, Penang that Muslims in the country were vulnerable to these methods due to their lack of faith.

He said that when he was Selangor executive councillor, he received at least 60 reports of apostasy including how Muslims were enticed with money and given gifts of laptop computers, cameras, cars, monthly food provisions and gadgets like solar-powered bibles.

“There were reports of foreign Christian ministers wearing Muslim skullcaps and attending prayers at a certain mosque in Petaling Jaya to establish a communal relationship with Muslims before converting them.

I was told these international Christian groups have unlimited funds,” he told a crowd of about 2,000, a tenth of Himpunan Sejuta Umat’s (Himpun) targeted 20,000 attendess.

Unlimited funds? How underhanded and dastardly!

The coalition of Muslim NGOs has organised several such gatherings in response to the “challenge of Christianisation”.

Himpun was mooted following last year’s controversial August 3 raid by Selangor Islamic authorities on the Damansara Utama Methodist Church (DUMC) in Petaling Jaya, where it was alleged that Christians were converting Muslims.

Hasan had backed the raid and said there “could be hundreds, maybe even thousands” of cases of Muslims being converted by Christians.

Last November, the former Selangor PAS chief told the Selangor Legislative Assembly that evangelical Christians are using high-tech devices such as solar-powered talking bibles to proselytise Muslims in the state.

You can probably see where this is going. More energetic crackdowns and more oppression against not just Christians, but anything unIslamic, is what Hasan Ali and his cohorts are agitating for. Via hysteria and paranoia, we find that these Believers readily justify tyranny of the Islamic kind indefinitely.

Would any Muslim apologists or spokespersons care to show how Hasan Ali has got the Noble Religion of Peace, Moderation, etc. etc. all wrong? Anyone?

Many Muslims tend to see hidden plots and conspiracies against Islam behind every tree and blade of grass, and Malaysia is no different. To wit, Malaysian Muslim demagogue and politician 'Doctor' Hasan Ali has gone to great lengths to attack Malaysian Christians, with the blessings (or at least the tacit consent) of the Muslim-controlled national government. The 'doctor' is continuing his very public efforts to prove that their evil 'plots against Muslims' exist, i.e. the supposed Christian conspiracies to convince Muslims to leave Islam. The aforementioned alleged Muslim apostates, whose crime consists of only no longer believing in Islam, of course have absolutely no right to freedom of any kind. Note that the headline to this piece refers to 'victims of apostasy', as if the freedom of religion in general and leaving Islam in particular were akin to an outbreak of disease or a natural disaster.

Following up this earlier Jihad Watch story, "Hasan Ali wants meeting with Christian leaders and victims of apostasy", by Clara Chooi, The Malaysian Insider, 7 Jan 2012:
SEREMBAN, Jan 7 — PAS leader Datuk Dr Hasan Ali is planning a meeting with Christian leaders and “victims of apostasy” to prove the existence of a movement to convert Muslims, Sinar Harian reported today.

Claiming apostasy in Malaysia has become a serious concern, Dr Hasan said such a meeting was necessary to resolve the problem as soon as possible.

It's only a 'problem' because Muslims and only Muslims make it so, but never mind.

“If they (apostates) agree to meet with these priests and religious leaders, a closed-door meeting will be held to prove the existence of a movement to convert Muslims.

“I want Christian leaders, religious scholars, muftis and intellectuals to hear from the mouths of these apostates themselves, the mouths of those who have embraced Christianity, as proof that they have been ensnared in the religion and these conversion attempts,” the daily quoted Dr Hasan as saying during the Himpunan Sejuta Umat (Gathering of a Million Faithful) meet at Negeri Sembilan’s closed-door stadium in Paroi here.

Dr Hasan (picture) however noted he was yet to obtain the permissions of the converts to hold the meeting.

“This is because [the former Muslims] are afraid to come forward as they fear the risk, threats from the community, their safety and they fear insults from others,” he explained.

What? These apostates fear for their safety? Are they implying that followers of the Religion of Peace might be or become violent? That makes these alleged former Muslims a bunch of greasy Islamophobes.

“It all depends on whether they are able to accept this meeting,” he added, said Sinar Harian

Dr Hasan said the effort to hold such a meeting was following claims on several websites that proselytisation activities do not exist in Malaysia.

He claimed to have “concrete evidence” in the form of documents from the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) to proof the existence of proselytisation here.

But the best proof would be from those willing to come forward with their stories, he said.

According to the daily, the “Unit Selamatkan Akidah” was formed by Dr Hasan in Selangor after 46 of 51 “victims of apostasy” approached him for help to return to Islam.

In a separate article today, Sinar Harian also reported that there have been 686 conversion applications from Muslims in Malaysia to date.

Himpun chairman Azmi Abd Hamid was quoted as confirming the information as true, claiming to have obtained the figures from the Syariah Court.

Why is Hasan Ali so obsessed with securing 'evidence' to prove his case? Is he afraid that the public will think he's lying? We can't ask such Islamophobic questions, I suppose. Muslims are notoriously thin-skinned about apostasy, to say the least--it's a capital crime in many Muslim countries, and Islamic theology permanently keeps it that way.

But surely, if you've got the best goods on the market--as Muslims never tire of saying that Islam is the best, etc.--then why would they be so continuously concerned about the competition? Unless the ideological goods Muslims are pushing aren't as good as advertised.

Muhammad said, "Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him" (Bukhari 9.84.57).

Religious Freedom Update from modern, moderate Malaysia: "Christian 'covert' task force targeting Malays," from Malaysia Today, January 6 (thanks to Stephen):

(Malaysiakini) - An elite highly covert task force which may be operating in and around Petaling Jaya and Kelana Jaya, has been set up by Christians with the aim of proselytising Selangor Malays, warned state executive council member in charge of Islamic religious affairs Hasan Ali.

Issuing this warning, Selangor state executive councillor in charge of Islamic religious affairs Hasan Ali. added:

"They (the Christians) found that Buddhists are easy to convert, Taoists are easy to convert and Confucians easy to convert.

"But they found Muslims, specifically Malays, difficult to convert.

"So they formed the special unit to convert the Selangor Malays to Christianity."
Hasan (left) announced this before the congregation in the Al-Hassanah Mosque in Bangi last night.

Speaking on the panel of the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) organised anti-apostasy forum held there, he reasoned that the special unit was the result of the animosity and warfare between Muslims and the crusaders during the holy crusades of the Middle Ages.

"It was left over from the crusades, the conflict between Christians and Muslims. They feel they need to recoup their loss, and are doing so by proselytising Muslims, who are largely Malays in Malaysia."

This special unit, Hasan said, was staffed by highly dedicated and committed Christian volunteers from around the globe who volunteered their time and effort to proselytise Malays.

"They come from Korea, from Australia, from Switzerland, from all over the world and volunteer to stay here for at least one year. Imagine that, one year away from their families, wives and jobs," he told the assembled Muslims.

The volunteers, he claimed, were well-qualified, many holding PhDs and masters in theological subjects and mundane disciplines such as engineering or medicine, assisted by a network of fellow missionaries across the country, and with access to unlimited funding and expertise in psychological tools for converting Muslims.

The constitution defines Malays as Muslims in one fell swoop (Article 160 (2)). For a Christian to criticize Malay supremacism as enshrined in Article 153 is to criticize Islamic supremacism. Therefore, this Christian leader is in trouble twice: for defying his second-class status as a non-Malay, and all the more for defying his second-class status as a non-Muslim.

"Christian Malay leader could be charged with sedition," by Michael Ireland for Assist News Service, December 30 (thanks to Twostellas):

An evangelical Christian leader in Malaysia may face charges of sedition following a statement he made about a section of the country's constitution this past weekend.
TheMalaysianinsider.com reports Datuk Ibrahim Ali, leader of the Perkasa movement, saying that in order to safeguard national security, Malaysian authorities must charge with sedition those who question Article 153 of the constitution - as he claims Christian leader Rev Dr Eu Hong Seng did on Christmas Day.
"We demand the government use the Sedition Act on anyone who makes statements like this from now on and charge them in court," the Perkasa chief told reporters December 27.
Ibrahim Ali was referring to a statement made on Saturday by National Evangelical Christian Fellowship (NECF) chairman Eu, who likened Article 153 to "bullying" for only protecting the rights of one group.
According to the newspaper story, Article 153 of the Malay Constitution states that it is the king's responsibility "to safeguard the special position of the Malays and natives of any of the States of Sabah and Sarawak and the legitimate interests of other communities in accordance with the provisions of this Article".
Calling Eu's statement "irresponsible provocation", Ibrahim said use of the Sedition Act would deter further attempts to question the provision and preserve racial harmony.
Disputing the article would only lead to civil strife as it was part and parcel of an established social contract that could not be amended without consent from the Malay rulers, he said.
The Malay rights leader also cautioned Christians against repeating statements similar to Eu's in light of past controversies like the Damansara Utama Methodist Church (DUMC) raid earlier this year, as this would only give the impression that Christians wished to make enemies of Muslims.....

It's mighty considerate of the Muslim Malaysian government to condemn the savage bombings of churches in Nigeria on Christmas day that killed scores. Of course, this mealy-mouth condemnation conveniently ignores the fact that it was yet another case of Islamic terrorists, inspired by Islamic teachings, slaughtering non Muslims. From "Malaysian condemns Nigerian church bombings", The Star, 28 December 2011:

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is profoundly shocked and saddened at the bombing of two churches in Nigeria on Christmas Day, said Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman.

He said Malaysia remained consistent with its firm stand against terrorism in all forms and manifestations, especially involving civilians, irrespective of location, including in Nigeria, Syria and Iraq.

"The taking of innocent lives and infliction of serious injuries constitute an unforgivable and inhuman act. The commission of such an act against a place of worship and during a mass congregation to mark a day of religious significance is even more deplorable," he said in a statement here Wednesday.

He added that Malaysia extended its condolences and sympathies to the bereaved families and the victims of injuries, respectively.

It was reported that at least 40 people lost their lives in the two incidents. - Bernama

Who is innocent and who is not, Mr. Foreign Minister? If Christians in a church qualify as 'innocent' in your view, what about, say, Jews congregating in a synagogue? And speaking of Jews, do you condemn the attacks your friends in Hamas constantly make against civilians in Israel? It seems that you conveniently left that country's name off of your list.

It is better to give than to receive, goes the hoary adage, and Malaysia's ruling Muslims are giving to the Christians in spades -- namely a lot of fear and anxiety. Now, how could Malaysia's modern, moderate Muslim government be so motivated or inspired to cause fear in Malaysia's comparatively small (~10% of the total population) Christian community?

One Malaysian has ascribed such fear and loathing to 'immature' Muslims. In true dhimmi fashion, this writer does not examine Islamic doctrine that causes Muslims everywhere, not just those in Malaysia, to consistently oppress and marginalize non Muslims. This Malaysian writer is almost certainly ignorant of the founder of Islam's own teachings in regards to Christians and Jews that have guided Muslims for the past 14 centuries. So, does that make Mohammed and his own ideology 'immature'? Well, we can't go there, of course -- that sort of thinking would be Islamophobic, xenophobic, bigoted, and probably racist

So for this Christmas, let us at Jihad Watch give the gift of knowledge. At least a few of Malaysia's beleaguered Christian community should know why at least a few Muslims always seem to be 'immature'. In short, it's not Muslims per se -- it's Islam. From "Season to be jolly – and afraid for [Malaysian] Christians", by Julia Yeow, Free Malaysia Today, 22 December 2011:
For the minority religious group, there is a sense of unease in the wake of rising tensions with Muslims authorities.
KUALA LUMPUR: In every mall and along every main street in Malaysia’s capital, elaborate decorations and loud, blaring carols bring about festive reminders of the season to be jolly.

But beneath the blinking lights and merry making, many Christians will be celebrating Christmas with an undeniable sense of unease due to rising tensions with Muslim authorities.

Malaysia is a secular state as defined in its constitution, but Islam is the official religion and is embraced by 60 percent of the population. Minority Christians make up about 10 percent, followed by Buddhists, Hindus and people of other faiths.

Religious violence is rare in the multicultural society, but minority religious groups have complained that their right to practise freely is increasingly threatened by a Muslim-dominated government.

Christians have always had to be “cautious” in dealing with the government, said Sam Ang, secretary-general of the National Evangelical Christian Fellowship, the country’s largest evangelical group.

“I think there is definitely a sense of Christians feeling threatened much more now, although not so much physically.”

He said the authorities often misinterpret the law according to their own convenience.

“There is always a risk. That is why churches would be wise to always exercise caution,” he said.

An emotional thing

But one major church apparently threw caution to the wind on Aug 3 when it allowed an organisation with Muslim members to use its premises for a celebration.

Throwing 'caution to the wind'? Isn't that just blaming the victims (i.e. Christians) for the aggressive acts of the Muslim religious police?

Islamic religious officers raided the church during the dinner, and later claimed efforts were being made to convert the Muslims who were present.

The Damansara Utama Methodist Church (DUMC) denied the allegations and called the raid illegal. It said accusations of conversion attempts were false and malicious.

Christian leaders condemned the raid, saying the authorities showed no proof or warrant to enter the church premises.

The incident also sparked outrage among Muslim groups that demonstarted against what they claimed were aggressive conversion efforts by Christians. They called on Muslims to “take all necessary actions” to protect the sanctity of Islam.

Outrage seems to be the default Muslim response to every slight, either real or imagined.

In response, the Christian community was placed on alert for fears of a repeat of violent attacks on at least eight churches last year, including one that was gutted by a firebomb.

“Religion is such an emotional thing that I find it hard to be at ease during this season,” said Vivienne Pal, a 33-year-old Christian.

“I’m constantly aware that things can get out of hand in a blink of an eye.”

Unwanted attention

Following the August incident, many major churches around Selangor and Kuala Lumpur re-evaluated their activities, for fear of drawing “unwanted attention”.

“We’ve had to be very careful about whom we help, and how we go about doing it because authorities are paying more attention to church activities,” said a pastor who requested anonymity due to his work among the poor and homeless of Kuala Lumpur.

“It’s sad because we don’t care about a person’s race or religion when we offer help, but now we need to be wise and cautious, so that our work doesn’t bring about unwanted attention and negative repercussions to the entire church,” he said.

“Our situation in Malaysia is not new, and Christians have been facing this although over the past three years, it’s become worse,” evangelical leader Ang said.

In spite of the increasing tension between the church and state, there are many who believe the maturity of believers from both religions will be able to mend the rift.

Mazran Nordin, an ethnic Malay Muslim, said he often visited churches in Europe and had no problem attending weddings in churches.

“I think a lot of it has to do with the maturity of a Muslim believer. If you are confident in your beliefs, why would you be afraid of being converted?” Mazran said.

“Everywhere you go, you can see normal Malaysians of all religions celebrating Christmas together,” said Thomas Philips, president of Malaysia’s Council of Churches.

“I don’t believe there is a distrust, and a feeling of any one religion being threatened. Those are just games the politicians and media play.

“From what we have seen, there is still much hope for people of all religions to live peacefully here,” he said.

Hope is great for lines from Hollywood movies, Mr. Philips, but it is not a viable strategy for the real world.

Muhammad said, "Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him" (Bukhari 9.84.57).

Freedom of Religion Update from Modern, Moderate Malaysia: "Hasan Ali says gathering proof of Christian proselytism," by Debra Chong for The Malaysian Insider, December 20 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 20 — Bent on proving Christians were converting Malay Muslims in Selangor, Datuk Hasan Ali said today his research unit has found 41 apostates in Petaling Jaya and will continue to collect more “profound” data to back his case.

The state executive councillor in charge of Islamic affairs told reporters the 41 apostates were mostly women aged between 30 and 60-years old who were from low-income households.

He postulated that the figure was likely only the tip of the iceberg, with the actual number being much bigger.

“It could be hundreds, maybe even thousands,” he said.

“No one has gathered information and made the statistics,” he added, saying he had set up two-and-half months ago a research unit he called “USA”, short for “Unit Selamatkan Akidah (Faith Rescue Unit)”, to collect the data and persuade the apostates to return to Islam.

“We are helping them, hoping they will come back to Islam,” he said.

The ex-PAS state commissioner appeared taken aback when challenged to prove his theory by a foreign news reporter who pointed out that the so-called apostates could have voluntarily embraced Christianity and were not induced to do so as alleged.

“Are you a Malaysian?” he asked. When she answered no, he explained that there were state laws against the propagation of religions other than Islam to Muslims.

When asked if he had pushed for the prosecution of Christian groups or individuals allegedly involved in proselytising their religion to Muslims, Hasan told reporters that he was researching for more “profound evidence”.

This latest disclosure, after a controversial August 3 raid by Selangor Islamic authorities (Jais) on the Damansara Utama Methodist Church (DUMC) in Petaling Jaya, risks further strain to already tense Christian-Muslim ties.

Christian leaders have consistently denied claims that they are attempting to convert Muslims, but relations between the two creeds with roots in the Middle East continue to smoulder in multi-religious, multi-cultural Malaysia where the religion of the federation is Islam as stated in the Federal Constitution.

Last month, Hasan told the Selangor Legislative Assembly that evangelical Christians are using high-tech devices such as solar-powered talking bibles to proselytise to Malay Muslims in the state.

Oh no! Not the solar-powered talking Bibles! Anything but that!

The lawmaker also said Jais is seeking to strengthen the enforcement of the Non-Islamic Religions (Control of Propagation Amongst Muslims) Enactment 1988 as well as the Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment 1995.

Moderate Modern Malaysia update: Malaysia's Muslim owned and operated federal government has selected a Muslim to be in charge of the high-profile SMK [abbreviation for 'National Public School' in Malay] Convent Bukit Nanas, a well-regarded public high school that has been run by Catholics for its entire 112-year history. A large number of Malaysian Catholics are reportedly feeling 'uneasy' about the impending Federal government appointment. Of course this automatically qualifies these Catholics as racists, bigots and Islamophobes of the worst sort. Haven't CAIR and the OIC and Hillary Clinton assured us all about how moderate, tolerant, freedom and peace loving Islam and Muslims are? After all, it's not as if the Malaysian government has a barely-concealed policy of Islamic supremacism.

From "Unease grows over new head for top convent school", by Debra Chong, The Malaysian Insider, 17 December 2011:
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 17 — For Catholic Malaysians, Putrajaya’s latest pick of a Malay-Muslim principal to head the prestigious SMK Convent Bukit Nanas (CBN) underscores a worrying trend to disregard the Church’s contribution and rights in the country.

Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur Tan Sri Murphy Pakiam waded this week into a growing row between the 112-year-old school’s Catholic owners and the Ministry of Education (MOE) after its new principal Datin Seri Zavirah Mohd Shaari’s surprise arrival at its doorstep.

“The appointment of the principal of CBN is not only contrary to the government policy of maximum consultation but has given the impression that it is the government’s strategy to take over the mission schools in total disregard for the status, ethos and special character of mission schools, especially CBN,” Pakiam (picture) said in a statement published earlier this week in Catholic paper The Herald.

He was appealing to Education director-general Datuk Seri Abdul Ghafar Mahmud to reconsider the ministry’s decision and pick a suitably qualified person nominated by the school owners under the Infant Jesus (IJ) Sisters order. The school is considered among the top convent schools in the country.

The case comes on the heels of a recent drama over the police’s extra conditions for carolling permits on two South Klang churches less than two weeks ago.

Earlier this year, right-wing Malay-Muslim groups triggered a national uproar over persistent rumours that churches are on a campaign to convert their own and pushing unfounded allegations of a secret political plot to install a Christian prime minister in the next general election.

Christians say such issues are an attempt to erode their religious rights in Muslim-majority Malaysia.

Erode the rights of Christians? Who's doing the 'eroding', exactly, and why are they doing it?

CBN, which has produced notable personalities such as Bersih 2.0 chief Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan and former International Trade Minister Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz, is one of 60 convent schools in Malaysia, Sister Rosalind Tan told The Malaysian Insider.

Tan is the mother provincial of the IJ Sisters and the person in charge of the order’s administration in the country.

She related that the school’s board of governors were taken aback when Zavirah reported for duty last week because there was no prior notice from the Education Ministry.

The previous head, Ann Khoo, retired last month.

Tan said this was not the first time the ministry had acted without consultation, saying the issue had been going on for decades.

She said the order, as the school’s rightful owners, had a responsibility to ensure the school head abided by its founding ethos even though the operations were now managed by the federal government.

“We have no qualms about race or religion of the principal posted to our mission schools,” she said in an interview this week.

She said that Zavirah was not school’s first lay principal, or the order’s first non-Christian school head; but expressed disappointment that its nominees had been sidelined by the ministry.

“What we want are principals who know what the mission school is and stands for,” she stressed.

In his statement, Pakiam highlighted that Zavirah had not been on a list submitted by the mission school authority.

He said the decision breached a previous government policy in the 1970s for “maximum consultation” with Christian mission schools nationwide in a revised report by the Royal Commission on the Teaching Services, West Malaysia.

The metropolitan archbishop added that former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who was the education minister in 1976, had repeated and affirmed the pledge in 1998 in a trip to Kota Kinabalu, to consult mission school authorities over the choice of school heads and teachers.

The Malaysian Insider understands there are over 400 Christian mission schools nationwide.

Catholics, who make up nearly one million of the country’s 28 million total population, have founded more than 250 such schools, including Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s alma mater, St John’s Institution, which neighbours CBN.

Hysterical Muslim claims of victimization and conspiracy paranoia are just problems with the Tiny Minority of Extremists™, right? Not exactly. In Islam, it's actually very, very mainstream. And in Malaysia, such paranoia is not only mainstream, but official policy -- policy that comes from the very top.

Non-Malaysians need to understand that most Malaysian states are ruled by (mostly) titular sultans, who are also in charge of religious affairs in their states. This religious authority is not ceremonial and is taken quite seriously. Sultans in fact lead a comfortable government-funded Islamic lifestyle and control thought police apparatuses with sweeping powers.

To the Malaysian sultans, as with other Islam rulers, there are plots and plotters against Islam in every shadow and behind every tree. Who knew that the 'Perfect Religion' was so vulnerable? As for evidence of said plots and plotters, no conclusive evidence has ever been produced that substantiates these conspiracies. Evidence is evidently for infidels.

And note the timing of this public announcement on the threat of apostasy, with Christmas just two scant weeks away. What better time than the holiday season to warn the wayward Muslims and the ever-treacherous kufr?

From "Stop covert attempt to proselytise Muslims", Free Malaysia Today, 9 December 2011:
The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has directed MAIS and JAIS to stamp out apostasy in the state.
TANJUNG KARANG: The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has ordered the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) and the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) [Religious Police] to take strategic steps to root out a subtle attempt to proselytise Muslims.

“I was informed that the proselytisation of Muslims, which occurred over the last few years, was done covertly and those involved were cunning in concealing evidence,” he said when opening the RM5 million Kampung Gulang-Gulang Mosque here today.

Done by whom, exactly? And what alleged evidence is supposedly being concealed? Anyone who would want to ask such questions is probably a greasy Islamophobe.

He said JAIS must continuously give explanation and counselling to Muslims who had committed apostasy.

“Let me remind JAIS to be discreet in its actions and approaches so that Muslims who have began distancing themselves from Islam will… return to the fold and repent,” he added.

The wishes of said Muslims who may wish to no longer be Muslims matters not in the slightest, naturally. But if Islam is supposed to be so fantastic, why would anyone want to leave it in the first place?

The Sultan said he was worried over the emergence of apostasy among Muslims, apart from Islamic deviationist teachings, as it would damage the growth and development of Islam in Selangor if left unchecked.

'Stamp out' apostasy. Doesn't that sound moderate, tolerant and noble to you?

Lee Kwan Yew, the founder of modern Singapore, should know a thing or three about Islam -- he's been living in very close proximity with Islam and its votaries for almost his entire life. Modern Singapore exists as a wealthy, advanced non-Muslim city state surrounded on all sides by a virtual sea of Islam. Singapore also has its own Muslim minority, which Lee struggled to 'integrate' into mainstream Singaporean (i.e. non Islamic) culture for his entire professional life. If this sounds familiar, it should. It turns out that the devout Muslims in Singapore, as well as elsewhere, do not integrate -- they invariably demand, sooner or later, that the rest of infidel society adapt to them.

Lee's solution to this dilemma, according to his own recent book "Hard Truths to Keep Singapore Going", was to urge the Muslim minority in Singapore to be, in short, less observant in their Islamic devotions. According to the mainstream, politically correct "Peaceful-Islam-has-been-hijacked-by-a-Tiny-Minority-of-Extremists" point of view, this solution will make no sense. But as Mr. Lee, at least in private, is most likely not hindered by such fanciful notions regarding Islam; he knows better, and he is telling us as much in his latest book.

That's what makes his tome such a threat to devout believers, and why Allah's Lifestyle and Thought Police (AKA 'Jakim') have quickly swung into action by banning it. From "Jakim declares book on Lee Kuan Yew haram" by Shannon Teoh, The Malaysian Insider, 8 December 2011:
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 8 — Federal Islamic authorities have declared haram a book in which Singapore’s founding father Lee Kuan Yew urged Muslims in Singapore to be “less strict on Islamic observances.”

Lee Kuan Yew: Hard Truths to Keep Singapore Going, a collection of interviews published in January, was included in a list of 15 books declared haram by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim).

Jakim’s planning and research division confirmed the decision was made when its committee on the censorship of publications with Islamic elements met in October.

However, both the division’s director and Jakim director general Datuk Othman Mustapha have not responded to queries by The Malaysian Insider on why the decision was made nine months after the book hit the shelves in Malaysia.

According to procedure, the list of books declared haram is sent to the home ministry for further action but it is unclear if the home ministry has followed suit and banned the books.

Othman’s predecessor Datuk Wan Mohamad Sheikh Abdul Aziz had said in February that Lee was unsuccessful in developing the mindset of the Singaporean public because he was “still influenced by the landscape of the 1960s which were full of prejudice and presumptions against Muslims.”

Which is the fault of non Muslims, naturally.

Lee, who served in Singapore’s Cabinet as PM, senior minister and minister mentor for 52 years before retiring in May, said in the book that Muslims in Singapore were socially “distinct and separate” and should “be less strict on Islamic observances” to aid integration and the city-state’s nation-building process.

It led to uproar from Malay and Muslims groups on both sides of the Causeway with his old rival and former Malaysian PM Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad accusing Lee of having no respect for religion.

By 'having no respect for religion', he of course only means one particular religion, and no points for figuring out which one he's referring to.

Malaysia's 'moderate' version of Islam, upon even cursory inspection, turns out to be no different from the Islam of other Islamic supremacists around the world. The desired objective of the Islamic supremacists both here in Malaysia and elsewhere remains the same -- that Islam is to be an unquestioned and totalitarian cultural, political, economic, legal and military force. The means to achieve this end in Malaysia are no different than those methods employed by Islamic supremacists elsewhere --  all opposition to Islam, no matter how trivial, must be silenced.

According to Islamic law, dhimmis -- primarily Jews and Christians under the "protection" of the Islamic state -- are "forbidden to openly display wine or pork, (A: to ring church bells or display crosses,) recite the Torah or Evangel aloud, or make public display of their funerals and feastdays" ('Umdat al-Salik, o11.5(6)). But in Malaysia, they can make a public display as long as they get a police permit. That's what makes Malaysia so moderate!

And it makes sense, after all. You know how Christmas carollers are notorious for getting stirred up by the words of the carols, rampaging and destroying non-Christian businesses.

Sharia Alert from modern, moderate Malaysia: "‘Tis the season to be jolly, with a police permit," by Debra Chong for the Malaysian Insider, December 9 (thanks to all who sent this in):

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 9 — Around this time for the past 30 years, Catholic church groups nationwide will bring out their song sheets, check their musical instruments and tune their voices to sing in harmony as they ready to go a-carolling.

And get a police permit.

Because carolling is done in public and requires moving from one spot to another.

As Christmas approaches, parish priests or their church youth leaders seek a police permit to effectively visit their fellow church members and belt out “Joy to the World”, “Silent Night, Holy Night” and even “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”.

For what is essentially a simple gathering to get into the spirit of the season and celebrate the birthday of their religion’s founder, carolling organisers are required to submit their full names as per their MyKad, identity card numbers, the details of their total participants, the dates, time and general areas of their visits.

Parish priests in Klang were alarmed to receive a memo from a district police officer this past week telling them to send in a list detailing the full names and contact information of the home owners they planned to visit this carolling season.

They are also required to inform Bukit Aman and the National Security Council, said an alarmed Rev Father Michael Chua, who told The Malaysian Insider he received the news from the parish priests of the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes and the Church of the Holy Redeemer earlier this week.

The irregular condition imposed by the district police officer is casting the spotlight on a recently-passed law to provide for peaceful assemblies that many groups, including the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia, the Malaysian Bar and various religious groups, say is more restrictive and regressive then the existing law it is to replace.

“Normally, we get the permits to go carolling without too many conditions imposed,” said Rev Father Lawrence Andrew, who heads the Church of St Anne near Port Klang.

This is something new. It seems they are now trying to regulate worship,” he added, voice tinged with concern.

Lawrence felt the police were trying to regulate worship by imposing the new carolling conditions. He said he had yet to apply for a permit and would not wait for the outcome of the two churches’ application before deciding his next move.

Rev Thomas Phillips, who leads the Mar Thoma church here and whose followers of the Syrian branch of Christianity also apply for carolling permits yearly, said he would be alarmed if the police imposed such conditions on him.

“Why do they want to know the details of all the heads of households for? That’s so tedious,” he said, adding that the carolling groups have moved around from the city to Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and Klang, visiting three to four houses in the areas on average per day without issue....

Religious groups all over the country have raised a furore after the Dewan Rakyat passed the controversial Peaceful Assembly Bill, which bans “assemblies in motion” otherwise known as street demonstrations, two weeks ago....

Former Catholic church youth leaders said the police usually advise carollers to wrap up their visits by midnight so as not to disturb the neighbours who do not profess their faith, and to make sure there are no Muslims onboard their chartered buses in granting the permits.

Sometimes, the police impose on carollers a 2km distance between the house they will be performing and the neighbourhood mosque or surau, which the ex-youth leaders say is nearly impossible to adhere to in a country where over 60 per cent of the population is Muslim....

The Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), as our regular readers may remember, is a dhimmi auxiliary of Malaysia's long-ruling Muslim-led coalition Barisan Nasional (BN). And MCA's head, one Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, must be some kind of greasy Islamophobe for blatantly stating that hudud laws -- Islamic laws regarding sex crimes, apostasy, theft, the consumption of alcohol, etc. -- are discriminatory, unfair to women, and would promptly cause poverty and capital flight if fully implemented. A dhimmi like Dr. Chua living under the 'protection' of Muslims would be in a unique position to let loose a little of the truth about Islam, yes?

Of course, this admission (which is not the first of its kind) has to be put in its proper political context. Soi Lek is using the 'hudud' issue to attack the Islamic supremacist political opposition (PAS et al), which of course strongly favors hudud. Perhaps this 'Islamophobe' would be well to recall that his BN Muslim overlords, as Muslims, of course also must favor the eventual implementation of hudud. Muslims of PAS, BN and elsewhere, i.e outside of Malaysia, are fully aware that one can never have just a little sharia -- it's a package deal.

From "Hudud bad for business, says Soi Lek", by Yow Hong Chieh, The Malaysian Insider, 4 December 2011.
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 4 — Investors will flee Malaysia if hudud is made federal law, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek said today.

He said this was because hudud was not fair to all, in particular women, and also prescribed cruel punishments for crimes, contrary to international convention.

“When our record on human rights is not good and the punishment is perceived to be cruel, Malaysia’s international standing will drop.

“Then we will have difficulty in attracting investment and even existing investors may pull out,” he told reporters after opening a forum on hudud at Wisma MCA here.

Dr Chua also said the stock market will likely fall 10 to 20 per cent once the Islamic law was enacted and would hit the pockets of local investors as well.

“When all sectors of the economy are affected, all Malaysians regardless of religion... will be affected,” he pointed out.

Dr Chua added that while the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration was “not perfect”, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak at least had a clear vision of how to improve the country.

What was that vision again? Something about not resisting Islam

This was in contrast to the opposition’s uncompromising hudud agenda, which would lead Malaysia down the path to “self-destruction”, he said.

Anything to do with Islam leads down the path of 'self-destruction'? Rampant Islamophobia!

Longtime readers of Jihad Watch will be familiar with Malaysia's lengthy and ignominious history of demolishing non Muslim houses of worship (see here and here) under a whole gamut of spurious pretexts.

In this latest incident, note the highly personal manner in which this particular temple was destroyed -- Malaysian police officers (who were almost certainly Muslim) attacked this particular temple with sledgehammers and personally smashed statues of Hindu deities. The violence and destruction does not make sense unless one acknowledges the Malaysian government's (not-so-well) hidden agenda of Islamic supremacy.

Imagine the outcry that would result if a Western or non Muslim country demolished a Muslim house of worship. The professional international 'human rights' community and the Western media machine would be in an immediate uproar, and would demand answers for this sort of gross violation of human rights, decency, etc. But as this was yet another Hindu temple deliberately destroyed by a Muslim-controlled government, those voices will be silent.

From "HRP decries ‘ruthless’ razing of temple", by B Nantha Kumar, Free Malaysia Today, 25 November 2011:

SHAH ALAM: The Human Rights Party (HRP) has denounced yesterday’s demolishment of a Hindu temple in Glenmarie and demanded from the Selangor government an acre of land for a new temple.

S Thiagarajan, a pro-tem central executive committee member of the party, said Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim must take “full responsibility” for the violation of the Sri Muneswarar Temple by the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and make amends by granting the acre of land.

He said he learned of the destruction when a local resident telephoned him while it was going on. The caller told him 30 police and MBSA officers were using sledgehammers to carry out the demolition.

“A Malay haji sprinkled something around the shrine and then some 10 uniformed enforcement officers started the ruthless act,” he told FMT.

He added that six Hindu deities were smashed into pieces.

“The Hindu devotees there could not stop the bloodletting; they were blocked by policemen,” he said.

“This is a clear cut case of the city council violating Article 11 of the Federal Constitution, which guarantees freedom of religion, and Article 8, which provides of equality before the law and equal protection before the law.

“We demand that the state government allocate one acre of land to the temple committee to build a new temple.”

He also said the state should grant permanent land titles for all Hindu temples in Selangor so that “such flagrant acts of transgression” would not recur.

But will such flagrant acts recur? Malaysia's track record speaks for itself.

In a word, no.

Various naïve parties, abetted by a dhimmified and (at best) ignorant media apparatus, are nearly certain to happily go along with the idea that Malaysia has somehow conjured up a 'moderate, modern' Islam by allowing a handful of women into the 'male dominated' bastion of Islamic preaching. From "In Malaysia, Muslim preachers now wear tudung", by Debra Chong, The Malaysian Insider, 27 November 2011:
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 22 — Already accounting for more than 60 per cent of undergraduates and over half of civil servants, Malay-Muslim women are now breaking into the male bastion of Islamic preaching.

In a New York Times (NYT) article published yesterday, it was reported that two local new reality TV programmes are shining a spotlight on the rise of women in the male-dominated arena of religion.

The reason for this phenomena, the paper appeared to suggest, was because there was a significant gender role in Islam that could only be filled by women.

“We need women preachers, rather than men,” 21-year-old Siti Adibah Zulkepli, 21 a contestant on the reality TV show “Solehah” (translated as “pious” in Arabic) was cited as saying by the NYT.

“Because they don’t face what we are facing — health problems, how to manage the house, how to manage the children. The woman knows better,” she added.

It also cited Greg Barton, acting director of the Center for Islam and the Modern World at Monash University in Melbourne, as saying it would be a mistake to dismiss the significance of Malaysian women’s expanding engagement in Islamic education.

Both “Solehah” and “Ustazah Pilihan”, which the newspaper translated as “‘ideal female preacher’ in Malay” are burnishing the image of female preachers here and show how women “can shape and nurture potential leaders of the future”, the paper said.

Citing Zaleha Kamaruddin, the first female rector appointed to head the International Islamic University here, the NYT said Malaysia was carving a new path for women in Islam.

“I think Malaysia has started to break the glass ceiling and is trying to be one of the modern Muslim countries,” she was reported saying.

Despite the massive headway, the NYT observed that Malaysian Muslim women were still barred from leading prayers.

The existence of these women 'preachers', of course, does absolutely nothing to negate Islamic ideology's degradation of women. It does nothing to change Islamic law's overall stance towards women as, in essence, second class citizens and as virtual property of their male relatives. It does not change by one iota these women's 'rights' under Sharia:

  • In Sharia court, a man’s testimony is equal to that of two women.
  • A man’s inheritance is equal to twice the amount of a woman’s inheritance
A few, or even many Malaysian females preaching Islam does not negate the fact that over 90% of honor killings are conducting by Muslim men, who face little to no punishment for their crimes in most Muslim-controlled countries.

And consider these Quranic verses:

Quran 4:34: “Men have superiority over women because God has made the one superior to the other, and because men spend their wealth to maintain them. Good women are obedient. They guard their unseen parts because God has guarded them. As for those among you who fear disobedience, admonish them and send them to beds apart, and beat them."

Quran 2:223: "Your wives are as a tilth unto you; so approach your tilth when or how ye will..."

Do Malaysian women peddling Islamic Da'wah or articles in the New York Times somehow cancel out these verses? Or other similarly-minded Islamic teachings?

By grasping at straws and lending credibility to ultimately meaningless window-dressing such as this story, non Muslims and the media like The New York Times are doing no favors for free societies. In fact, they only add impetus to those who wish to strengthen sharia and Islam's influence everywhere.

The club's creepy sexual fantasy "guide" with a touch of Islamic supremacism was banned in Malaysia, but the group's supporters are taking their message to London.

Never mind that polygamy is still technically illegal in Britain. Then again, more than a few Muslims there are already ignoring that. "Obedient Wives Club urges women: Be like prostitutes," by Rob Parsons for ThisIsLondon, November 23 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):

A group that supports polygamy and urges Muslim women to act like "prostitutes" in the bedroom has opened a branch in London.
The Obedient Wives Club, launched in Malaysia, is part of the Global Ikhwan group which claims polygamy will lead to a harmonious society. It urges women to "be submissive and keep their spouses happy in the bedroom".
Ikhwan vice-president Rohaya Mohamad has claimed women could "curb social ills" by serving their husbands "better than a first-class prostitute".
Members of the group, which is run from a Greenwich restaurant, will appear at a debate about polygamy in London tonight. They say they want to show Muslims in Britain that the practice can work. But Sara Khan, director of Muslim women's charity Inspire, said: "Polygamy is illegal under British law and such a club would reduce a woman to a mere prop in a man's life. Not only does it demean women, it is demeaning to men too and the institution of marriage."
The Wives Club already has branches in Indonesia, Singapore and Australia. Founder Mohd Ali said there were "misconceptions" about polygamy: "We want to share our experience to show it can work. One of the problems in Malaysia [was] there are men who might keep a mistress or go with someone else because they don't have a satisfactory married life."....

And of course that's only the wife's (or wives') fault.

Malaysian politician Hassan Ali, AKA Hasan Ali, the same Islamic supremacist who has been a key supporter of the recent church 'inspection' and Islamic supremacist fest known as 'Himpun'', has exposed another 'trick' of the infidels: solar powered talking bibles. Will the Christian treachery against Muslims never end? From "Hasan Ali: Muslims being converted by solar-powered talking bible", by Debra Chong, The Malaysian Insider, 17 November 2011:

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 — Evangelical Christians are using high-tech devices such as solar-powered talking bibles to proselytize to Malay Muslims in Selangor, state lawmaker Datuk Hasan Ali said today.

Hasan, who is in charge of the state’s Islamic affairs portfolio, said the state’s religious authority (Jais) had discovered that Christian missionaries were now spreading their gospel through technologically-advanced means apart from setting up welfare groups providing cash and other financial aid to single mothers and the destitute.

He added that Jais’s research showed Christian evangelists were spreading their faith to young Muslim students in free tuition classes and counselling sessions, besides distributing Christian pamphlets in public places, homes, universities and places that were ostensibly called “community centres” to carry out their evangelical work.

The ex-PAS state commissioner disclosed this in a written reply to a question from Umno-Sungai Burong assemblyman Datuk Mohd Shamsudin Lias.

According to a website called Book of Joe, the palm-sized radio-like device contains all the books in the New and Old Testaments and is fitted with batteries that will run for almost 10 hours before needing to be recharged, whether by the sun, a light bulb or a nine-volt AC adapter. It costs only US$99.95 (RM310).

This latest disclosure, after a controversial August 3 raid by Selangor Islamic authorities on the Damansara Utama Methodist Church (DUMC) in Petaling Jaya, could trigger another Christian-Muslim conflict.

Christian leaders have consistently denied claims that they are attempting to convert Muslims, but relations between the two creeds with roots in the Middle East continue to smoulder in multi-religious, multi-cultural Malaysia where the religion of the federation is Islam as stated in the Federal Constitution.

Hasan said Jais is working to counter Christian proselytism of Muslims by holding sessions to clarify Islamic doctrine and its laws.

The lawmaker said Jais [religious police] is also seeking to strengthen the enforcement of the Non-Islamic Religions (Control of Propagation Amongst Muslims) Enactment 1988 as well as the Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment 1995.

Despite the total Malay-Muslim political control of the Malaysian government, police, courts, military, the media and what-have-you, and a vast gamut of totalitarian laws at their disposal, we find that Muslims can go from all powerful 'sons of the soil' to hapless victims in mere seconds. With no evidence of said 'conspiracies' required (or existing in the first place), any amount of Islamic-sponsored oppression and repression is justified indefinitely.

Authorities are planning on jailing homosexuals in modern, moderate Malaysia, but not to worry: gay activists in the West know what the real problem is: Pat Robertson.

Sharia Alert from Malaysia, the shining example of a moderate, Western-leaning Muslim state: "Malaysian states with Islamic law eye harsher punishments for Muslim gays," from Reuters, November 11:

Two Malaysian states are set to change their Islamic laws to punish Muslims who engage in homosexuality, raising the prospect of gay Muslims being punished twice and stoking concerns about rising intolerance toward same-gender relationships. Homosexuality is punishable by law in Malaysia by caning and up to 20 years in jail, but the legal amendments planned by Pahang and Malacca religious authorities would give the state governments additional ammunition.

If the proposed changes came into force, a Muslim homosexual could be punished under both federal and state religious charges, meaning that jail terms could run consecutively and result in longer time. Analysts said the proposed amendments hinted at an increasing intolerance toward homosexuality and could erode support for the government among the majority ethnic Malays, who are Muslims by birth....

Malacca’s chief minister, Mohd Ali Rustam, said the state would review its Islamic law provisions to allow Muslim gays and lesbians to be tried in court and punished by a jail term or a fine to deter homosexuality.

“So many people like to promote human rights, even up to the point they want to allow lesbian activities and homosexuality,” Ali told Reuters. “In Islam, we cannot do all this. It is against Islamic law,” he said, adding that Muslim homosexuals would also be required to attend counseling.

Ali, who is also Malacca Islamic Religious Department chairman, said the proposed penalties would also apply to those who supported homosexuality even if they did not practice it. “We want to put it in the enactment so that we can enforce it and bring them to our sharia (Islamic law) court. Then we can charge them for promoting or supporting these illegal activities.”

Marina Mahathir is a Malaysian social activist and writer. And you may recognize her last name: she is also the oldest daughter of a certain Malaysian former prime minister, the man who is in many ways responsible for the ongoing Islamization of Malaysia, Doctor Mahathir bin Mohamad. In case you forgot, he is infamous for his virulent brand of antisemitism and his remark as Malaysia’s prime minister during a 2003 Organization of the Islamic Conference meeting: that Jews “…run the world by proxy.” Marina has largely inherited his particular political outlook; she is always ready to utter any amount of cognitive dissonance in the service of Islam. From “Irrational Fears Abound”, by Marina Mahathir, The Star, 9 November 2011:

TEN years ago the world turned a decidedly nastier place for Muslims. Although Islamophobia already existed before Sept 11, the events that day ratcheted it up several notches. Suddenly Muslims in the United States and all over the world found themselves under intense scrutiny, much of it hostile.

What happened on September 11, 2001? Three thousand people, the vast majority of whom were non-Muslims, were murdered en masse, not by ‘Islamophobes’, but by Muslim jihadists in explicit accordance with Islamic teachings. And Marina has the typically Islamic chutzpah to proclaim Muslims are the real victims. It’s like a teenager murdering his own mother and father, and then petitioning the court for leniency during his murder trial because he’s an orphan.

Stereotypes abounded. Although Islam is a religion of peace, all Muslims were branded terrorists, undemocratic, violent, oppressors of women.

The only images seen in the media were of angry bearded men wielding weapons and shouting threats to the West. Only Muslim women covered head to toe in dour black, were seen. It did not help that some Muslims themselves provided fodder for these images.

Tales of aggression against Muslims abounded. Headscarves were pulled off, insults hurled and, at airports, anyone with the slightest tinge of an Arabic name was pulled out for special inspection. Some people suffered even more violence, resulting in injury and even death.

These ‘tales of aggression’ are precisely that—largely fictional tales, consisting almost entirely of disinformation and victimization fantasies. Documented cases of actual violence against Muslims in western countries by non-Muslims are exceedingly rare, while the copious amounts of legalized discrimination, official oppression, and documented violence directed against non-Muslims by Muslims (especially in Muslim-ruled lands like Malaysia) are almost always conveniently ignored by Muslim apologists like Marina Mahathir.

Fear ruled and with it came prejudice and discrimination, much of it fuelled by the media. Most of it stemmed from ignorance about the world of Islam, which is not only large but also diverse.

This diversity does not at all mean that there is no agreement in the Islamic world on the eventual objective for Islam to implement sharia around the globe, and the use of Jihad, violent or otherwise, as a legitimate means towards this goal.

A Muslim in the Middle East is culturally different from a Muslim in Asia, but that was not appreciated in much of the West. Indeed Middle Eastern Muslims comprise only 15% of the entire Muslim world. Furthermore there are many Western Muslims who look and act no different from their fellow citizens.

Meanwhile, the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq only angered Muslims, who then reacted in ways that ingrained the stereotypes about them.

See, all that terrorism committed by Muslims is really the fault of their victims. Are Muslims ever responsible for any acts of violence, Marina?

The early post-Sept 11 Islamophobic madness only lessened when much better information and knowledge about Islam and Muslims became available. This took two forms.

One, many Muslims took it upon themselves to educate non-Muslims about Islam, and in particular reached out to other faith communities to talk about their commonalities, rather than differences.

And two, thousands of students flocked to universities to learn more about Islam. Both Muslim and non-Muslim scholars of Islam did much to teach students about the real religion, rather than the one perpetuated by the media.

Ten years later, although it cannot be said that Islamophobia has disappeared, Western perspectives on Islam have become more measured and based on better knowledge. One of the biggest boosts to the image of Islam and Muslims has been the Arab Spring.

Suddenly the images of Muslims were young, modern, and protesting not about the West but about their own corrupt leaders. Although they did not explicitly talk about religion, in 2011 the Middle East became associated with the yearning for freedom and democracy, one not too different from what developed countries enjoyed.

Women were seen at the forefront of the revolution, both head-scarved and not, and changed the image of the oppressed Muslim woman.

We know that the ‘Arab Spring’ has been, at the very least, vastly oversold by the very same Western media that Marina happily bashes. This so-called ‘spring’, rather than being the birth of Jeffersonian freedoms, is proving to be a season for old tyrants to be replaced, sometimes violently, by more 'Islamist', sharia-compliant ones.

As for the oppression of Muslim women, who is oppressing them, and why? Would that have anything to do with Islamic scripture that devalues women, renders them effectively as minors and forever places men as their superiors? Or is this oppression yet again somehow the fault of the infidels? Don’t hold your collective breath waiting for Ms. Marina to answer that.

It just goes to show that prejudice and discrimination, both rooted in fear of the unknown, can always be dispelled with better knowledge, at least in those willing to learn. There are of course many who simply refuse to open their hearts and minds to such enlightenment, but progress has been made in incremental steps.

It is also clear that very often those who steadfastly refuse to eliminate their prejudices do so because they think it is politically profitable to them. The loudest Islamophobes always seem to be politicians trying to win the populist vote. And the only way they maintain those votes is by keeping people ignorant. Hence, their refusal to engage at all with Muslims.

See, it is the fault of infidels for refusing to bend over backwards to accommodate (i.e. ‘engage’) the Muslims.

Every phobia about groups of people who are different from us works in the same way. They rely on stereotypes and on the fear that allowing these minority people the same basic rights as others would mean that they would demand more.

Thus, although no Muslim ever asked for it, some people in the US insist that there are plans to impose syariah law there. The media stokes the hysteria and stigmatisation. Unjust accusations and calls for depriving them of citizenship becomes the norm.

The way Marina writes, you might think ‘syariah’ (sharia) law is something bad that might cause harm to Americans. Why would she suggest that—is she herself an Islamophobe? Regardless, the historical record does not lie—Muslims everywhere always move to implement Sharia law, or parts thereof, as soon as their numbers and influence in a given jurisdiction make it politically feasible to do so. Are Muslims in the US going to be any different? Plainly, as even a cursory examination of the facts reveals, the answer is almost certainly 'no'.

Although those baying for blood are small in number, they still make innocent people suffer. People who have never harmed anyone else suffer distrust and hostility from their former neighbours. Violence against them is justified, sometimes with religious backing. The entire atmosphere is poisoned by hate.

Muslims never hate anyone, it seems—only ‘Islamophobes’ spread ‘hate’ by reporting on the actions of Muslims and the ideology that they follow.

This past week, where some people seem to be proudly picking on the powerless, has reminded me of that Islamophobic hysteria. I fear for our country and where we are heading.

Where is Malaysia heading? The truth is likely not to unduly worry the likes of Marina Mahathir or her father, but Malaysia’s future, in short, is more Muslims and more sharia. In other words, Malaysia’s future is firmly in the hands of not ‘Islamophobes’, but of Islamic supremacists.

No one on either side of the issue will be prosecuted (for now), but the Muslims present at the function that was raided -- no, "inspected" -- will still have to attend counseling to "restore their faith."

An update on this story, though we certainly haven't heard the last of it. Malaysia's Islamic supremacists will try to get all the mileage they can out of it. "Christians in Malaysia Accept Ruling on Church Raid," from Compass Direct News, November 9:

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, November 9 (CDN) — Following controversy over a raid on a church event in which Muslims were present, Christian leaders in Malaysia welcomed a sultan’s pronouncement that neither the Christians nor the state officers who disrupted the meeting would be prosecuted.
A number of local commentators, however, have continued to express concern over the Aug. 3 raid by the officers of the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS).
The sultan of the state of Selangor, Sharafuddin Idris Shah, issued a statement on Oct. 11 saying the Muslim religious officers did not breach any state laws in the raid on Damansara Utama Methodist Church (DUMC). The sultan came to the conclusion after considering a report prepared by JAIS.
While church leaders welcomed the sultan’s wish for religious harmony and his decree that there will be no prosecution against any parties involved, Dr. Ng Kam Weng, research director at Kairos Research Centre, argued that the powers granted by the state enactments “cannot be taken as license” for Muslim religious authorities to intrude or trespass onto the premises of a church.
Furthermore, Ng said, enforcement must be consistent with fundamental civil liberties and provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code (Act 593) relating to search and arrest. In Malaysia, two sets of laws exist – civil laws that govern all citizens, and Islamic laws that apply to Muslims only in matters of religion, family, property and inheritance.
In the raid, between 20 to 30 JAIS officers and police entered the Dream Centre, a facility rented by DUMC, without a search warrant at 10 p.m. Christians were holding a dinner in gratitude for the efforts of Harapan Komuniti (HK), a community-based Non-Governmental Organization that aids women and children and victims of HIV/AIDS and natural disasters. Present at the dinner were volunteers, leaders, supporters and members of the community who have benefitted from the HK’s work.
Upon entering the premises, JAIS religious officers took videos and photographs. When the dinner organizers asked JAIS officers for the reason for their raid, they said they had received a complaint but were unable to produce a copy when asked for one. The Muslim religious officers also took down details of the Muslim guests before leaving, and the 12 were later asked to give statements at the JAIS office.
The sultan’s ruling asserted that, based on investigations by JAIS, there were attempts made to “subvert the faith and belief of Muslims,” though there was insufficient evidence for legal action to be taken against the perpetrators.
In a country where propagating one’s faith to Muslims is prohibited, Bishop Paul Tan Chee Ing questioned the accusation that the church meeting was used to steer Muslims from their religion, as the sultan ruled there was insufficient evidence to prosecute the Christians.
“If there is not enough evidence, there ought to be no imputation of wrongdoing,” the Roman Catholic bishop said.
The sultan commanded JAIS to provide counseling to the 12 Muslims present at the dinner in order to restore their faith and belief in Islam. He also expressed hope that all activities to spread other religions to Muslims in the state should cease immediately.....

Funny how those Malaysian Muslims keep finding excuses to demolish one 'infidel' house of worship after another. This time, the pretext is a new Malaysian mass transit line, and wouldn't you know it, there's not one, but two pesky temples that are somehow right in the way of this new line. And of course, those troublesome temples -- two Buddhist temples this time -- have gotta go.

Isn't it interesting how, despite the vast number of mosques, suraus, madrassahs, etc. that Malaysia surely has, how not one of these Muslim holy place is ever inconvenienced in any way? It's almost as if Malaysia's government is chock-full of Islamic supremacists or something, dedicated to sweeping away all traces of Jahiliyya (i.e. all non Islamic culture).

From "Devotees pray to save temples," by Joseph Kaos Jr, The Star, 7 November 2011:

KUALA LUMPUR: Appeal letters have been sent, appointments have been set.

Now, devotees of two temples in Cheras are seeking divine intervention to spare their place of worship from being demolished.

The temples are in the path of the Klang Valley My Rapid Transit line.

About 500 devotees held special prayers at the Xian Fa Chinese temple in Kg Landasan Keretapi here yesterday.

“On Oct 6, the Federal Territories Land Office sent the Xian Fa Chinese and the Buddhist temples at Kg Landasan Keretapi eviction notices,” said MCA Bukit Jalil Resort chairman Chew Yin Keen at a press conference yesterday.

“They were told to move out by November before their temples are demolished,” he said.

“I have told the land office that it cannot demolish any place of worship without providing a replacement location,” he said, pointing out that Deputy Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk M. Saravanan had stated this before.

“There is a plot behind the temple large enough to build five or six temples,” Chew said.

“Perhaps, the temples can be relocated there.”

Buddhist temple committee member Lee Mun Yoong said the temple had been in existence for 70 years.

He said they had moved to the current location when their previous site in Cheras was taken over to house the Kuala Lumpur Badminton Stadium.

Xian Fa Chinese temple committee member Yap Chee Kong said they could not afford to build a new place of worship even if they were asked to move.

He suggested that the Government readjust the track alignment so that the temple would not be affected.

“Our temple has been here since 1976,” said Yap.

“Since the MRT alignment is only in its planning stage, perhaps they can still consider changing it.”

Last week, Land Public Transport Commission chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar said the commission would not accept any more complaints on the MRT final alignment and urged the public to refer to MRT Co instead.

Malaysia's pro-GLBT (gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgendered) event known as 'Seksuality Merdeka' (Sexual Independence) has been banned by the national police as constituting "...a threat to public order". Compare this crackdown to the Malaysian government's much more accepting attitude towards those who peddle Islamic supremacy. Presumably the recent Islamofascist 'Himpun' rally, which the authorities allowed to proceed, was somehow more 'beneficial' for Malaysians.

Imagine the uproar if a Republican governor in the U.S. or a 'red state' had done what Malaysia's Muslim government has done. Where's the outrage from the many voices and organizations in the West who purportedly stand for GLBT rights? When Muslims suppress the GLBT crowd from speaking out, or when Muslim countries torture and execute homosexuals for the 'crime' of being gay, why is it that the so-called 'human rights' community in the West, more often than not, has absolutely nothing to say? Could it be that finding fault with Muslims or Islam is not on their agenda?  From "Police Ban 'Seksualiti Merdeka' Programme - Khalid," Bernama, 3 November 2011:
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysia Police today banned any functions organised by any group relating to the 'Seksualiti Merdeka' programme in the interest of public order.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Khalid Abu Bakar said police had identified and would call everyone involved including former Bar Council president Datuk S.Ambiga to record their statements.

"Police will take action under Section 27 A (1) (C) of the Police Act as well as 298 A of the Penal Code to prevent any function relating to the programme," he told a media conference, here Thursday.

He said the law in the country did not recognise any deviationist activity that could destroy the practice of religious freedom.
Religious freedom for whom, exactly?
"Police received many protests from non-governmental organisations including Islamic and non-Islamic organisations who feared that the programme could create disharmony, enmity and disturb public order," he said.

Merdeka Seksualiti 2011, the five-day programme which started two days ago at the Annexe Galeri, Central Market here, among other things called for equal rights for the homosexual and transsexual groups such as the gay, lesbian, bisexual, intersexual and transgender groups.

Khalid said two police reports had been received so far urging the police to take action against those for trying to organise the programme which jeopardised public order.
"Based on the reports and investigation, we will call them up to give them advice. Firstly, we advise them not to proceed with the programme. If they are adamant, we will not hesitate to detain them (organisers) including those who participate," he said.

He said police urged members of the public not to participate in the programme as it could disturb public order.

"Beginning today, we will stop whatever event carried out by the organisers and I advise members of the public not to attend any of the programmes organised by this group.

"The Bar Council should advise the organisers that their action is against the law. I don't understand why they (Bar Council) did not explain to them (on the offence)," he said.

Khalid said as a national security agency, the police were responsible for public order and they should tackle any threat much earlier.

"Police are not against any human rights to express their opinion. But when this (programme) crops up and threatens national security, we have to take action," he said.
Speaking out on behalf of gays and lesbians is a 'national security' threat, but Islamofascists calling for sharia and shrieking baseless conspiracy hysteria is not.

In regards to this latest Malaysian crackdown on the freedom of speech, assembly and expression, Malaysia's deputy prime minister had this to say. From "DPM hits out at Seksuality Merdeka and claims that it might be politically motivated", Malaysia Today, November 4, 2011:

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, the Deputy Prime Minister has hit out at the organizers of the ‘Seksuality Merdeka’ event. He told the organizers to ‘know their limits’ and that the event was a waste of time and not beneficial to Malaysians.

He also said that Malaysia has laws, values and limits which the organizers should consider and that it was inappropriate. He stated that such ‘unnatural’ sexual activities are not condoned by Malaysians in general and that even if the government does not object, there would be Malaysians who are not comfortable with the event. Muhyiddin also said that the event could be political [sic] motivated.

Presumably everyone is comfortable with Malaysia's Islamic supremacist agenda and that agenda is not politically motivated?

What are these club members looking at? No, wait, don't tell us. Alas, in any event, it looks like there will be no more "Islamic Sex, Fighting Jews to Return Islamic Sex to the World."

"Malaysia bans Obedient Wives Club sex manual," by Sam Jones for the Guardian, November 3:

The Malaysian government is to ban a sex manual written by the head of an Islamic sect that teaches women to "be submissive and keep their spouses happy in the bedroom", for fear it could cause religious confusion.
In the 115-page book – entitled Islamic Sex – the founder of the Obedient Wives Club outlines her experiences of, and opinions on, marriage. It has passages on how couples should physically and spiritually approach sex, and claims that most women only satisfy 10% of their husbands' sexual needs.
Club leaders, who argue that a wife should serve as a "good sex worker" and a "whore" to her husband, showed the book to journalists last month in an effort to dispel what they called misconceptions that it was obscene and demeaning to women.
They said the book, which contains no explicit photographs, was intended to be a spiritual guide read exclusively by club members to help them better understand sex.
Many Malaysians have denounced the club, saying it makes a mockery of modern gender roles in a country where women hold prominent posts in both the government and the private sector.
A spokesman for the home ministry said the government's Islamic affairs department had studied the manual and recommended a ban on the grounds that it may confuse Malaysian Muslims about what constitutes acceptable religious teaching.
People caught in possession of it could be fined up to 5,000 ringgit (£995), the spokesman said, and anyone who makes copies for sale could be imprisoned for three years and fined 20,000 ringgit.
Representatives of the club did not respond to calls made to them on Thursday. The club is believed to have at least 800 members in Malaysia and has branches in Indonesia, Singapore, Jordan and Britain. Many members are in polygamous marriages, insisting the practice helps husbands to avoid committing adultery.
The club's international vice-president, Rohaya Mohamad, explained the club's provocative pronouncements in an interview with a Malaysian paper earlier this year. "Eve was created because Adam had needs," she told the Star. "Men have [sexual] needs which they can't control. And if the needs are not fulfilled, men will find another woman. God created them like that."

Here's a startling Islamophobic admission from one of the dhimmi auxiliaries of Malaysia's ruling (i.e Muslim) political party UMNO, namely that implementing part of Sharia called hudud (Islamic laws that deal with apostasy, theft, sexual crimes and the consumption of alcohol) may not be in the best interests of all Malaysians. Normally, the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) can be relied upon to follow orders from its Muslim superiors in UMNO, but this isn't the first time MCA has spoken out against the ongoing encroachment of Islam in Malaysia. Such truth telling about Islam is especially noteworthy for its novelty. Even considering the tactically limited scope of MCA's 'Islamophobic' stances, the 'infidels' of MCA are increasingly the lone public voice of anti-dhimmitude to be found anywhere in the country. From "Hudud turns back the clock," The Star, 29 October 2011:

JOHOR BARU: PAS' intention to carry out hudud law will cause the nation to backslide and scare away investors, said MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.

The impact would be great on foreign direct investments and also tourists who would shy away, he said, adding that several countries practising hudud law were backward except for their rich natural resources.

Speaking to reporters after attending a function at the Hock Lin Gong Chinese temple here yesterday, Dr Chua stressed that even non-Muslims in the country would be affected, especially in terms of economy and education.

It is misleading and a lie to say that the implementation of hudud will not affect non-Muslims,” he said.

Islamophobic indeed. Is it not also true to say that countries that practice Sharia, or countries that practice Islam, are also backward except for their rich natural resources? And that the practice of Islam in said states might have something to do with this backwardness?

Muslims not infrequently call for banning the concerts of 'infidel' performers, which closely hews with the Islamic script (and scripture). Islam calls for the destruction of many kinds of artistic expression, including, according to many hadiths, music. However, orthodox Muslims have shown a willingness to look the other way if a certain type of music advances the cause of Islam. But it's safe to say that the openly gay Elton John, who will soon sing in concert for the first time in Malaysia, will keep making Malaysian Muslims hopping mad. From AFP (via Google), "Call to ban Elton John Malaysia Concert", 25 October 2011:

KUALA LUMPUR — Members of an opposition Islamic party have called on Muslim-majority Malaysia to ban next month's concert by Elton John, saying Tuesday that the gay singer promotes "hedonism".

Shahril Azman Abdul Halim Al-Hafiz, an official with the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), said the concert at the Genting Highlands resort on Nov. 22 would corrupt young Muslims because of John's homosexuality.

"It's not good. In Islam homosexuality is forbidden," he told AFP. "What he is doing is hedonism. Hedonism is not good in Islam."

The British singer is openly gay, marrying his partner in 2005 after same-sex unions were legalised in Britain.

Shahril is the chairman of the PAS youth wing of eastern Pahang state. The casino resort lies on the border of the state, about an hour's drive from the capital Kuala Lumpur.

An official from concert promoter Tune Live declined to comment.

But the show, part of John's "Greatest Hits Tour," is expected to go ahead in the resort. John will be singing in Singapore before he comes to Malaysia and then go on to Jakarta.

PAS often protests concert by Western acts, saying the artists promote a promiscuous lifestyle and corrupt youngsters' minds.

But despite protest threats, most concerts have gone ahead without incidents though performers had to abide by strict rules, barring them from bearing too much skin and kissing on stage.

Something seems to have gone amiss in that next-to-last paragraph below. What they probably meant is that these additional measures, which serve to "protect" Islam from having to stand on its own in the free market of ideas, aim to counter an imaginary "conspiracy" to weaken the faith of Muslims. It didn't quite come out that way.

"Propagation Of Non-Islamic Teachings To Muslims Can Be Charged In Civil Court, Says Jamil Khir," from Bernama, October 24 (thanks to Twostellas):

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- Non-Muslims who propagate their non-Islamic religious teachings to Muslims can be charged in the civil court under the Control and Restriction of the Propagation of Non-Islamic Religions Enactment.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom said provisions in the enactment included offences for persuading, coaxing and instigating Muslims to change their religious faith.
Besides publishing publications on other religions other than Islam, it is also an offence to expose non-adult Muslims to other religions, he said when debating the Supply Bill 2012 in the Dewan Rakyat.
Many people were not aware of the law which had been enforced since 1980, he said, adding that among states which enforced the law were Terengganu, Kelantan, Selangor, Melaka, Kedah, Pahang, Johor, Negeri Sembilan and Perlis.
He said the Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) would continue to collaborate with all state Islamic religious councils in an effort to weaken the religious faith of Muslims.
He said efforts were also made by the government to standardise Islamic law in all states.

The government-sanctioned Islamic supremacist confab 'Gathering of a Million Faithful' has concluded, having been approximately 995,000 short of its goal of having one million believers in attendance. Event organizers have repeatedly demonstrated an amazing mix of denial, self-deception, false victimization and conspiracy theory paranoia. For Islam's believers, such a toxic brew of thinking (if one can call it that) is par for the course, and dangerous to everyone as it can be used to justify any amount of oppression and violence. Following up on this story; "Apostasy worse than reported, claims Himpun," by Yow Hong Chieh, The Malaysian Insider, 22 October 2011:
SHAH ALAM, Oct 22 — Himpunan Sejuta Umat ['Gathering of a Million Faithful'] said today the problem of Muslim apostasy in Malaysia was greater than what has been reported and suggested this was part of a global plan to destroy Islam.

Himpun chairman Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid said while the government had released statistics on the number of Muslims who left the faith, this was just a fraction of those who had converted from Islam.

“That’s what was reported. It’s the ones that were not reported that we’re worried about because there are a lot that weren’t reported,” he told reporters here after closing the Himpun rally that saw just 5,000 Muslims turning up.

Azmi singled out Evangelical Christians as the key threat to Islam in Malaysia, and vowed that Himpun would ensure their plans to destroy Islam would not succeed.

“The enemies of Islam are global. Islam has been a problem to many of the Western Zionist movements,” he said.

“It is a well-known fact. There are people who see Islam as a target.”

He is right--Islam's enemies are global. That would have nothing to do with the fact that Islam is itself a weaponized religion that has targeted, oppressed and attacked the so-called 'infidels' in the first place, would it?

Speakers at Himpun had earlier linked the Evangelicals to the global Zionist movement and alleged that the Christian faction viewed Islam as an obstacle” that must be overcome.

Azmi added that there was proof that the Evangelicals were actively trying to convert Muslims in Malaysia but did not cite his sources.

Evidence? We Muslims don't need no steenking evidence!

Himpunan Sejuta Umat was organised by various right-wing religious groups calling for Muslims to rise up and fight the “challenge of Christianisation”.

Why does Christianity pose such a challenge and threat to Islam? Don't Muslims endlessly talk about how perfect, grand, pure, noble, etc. their religion is? If you're really selling the superior product, why act in a way that conclusively demonstrates that the product you're peddling is utter and complete dreck?

The mass rally was mooted following the controversial August 3 raid by Selangor Islamic authorities on Damansara Utama Methodist Church (DUMC), where it was alleged that Christians were converting Muslims.

It is illegal to proselytise Muslims in Malaysia.

With racial tension stoked in recent years by church firebombings and the cow head protest, today’s rally could resurrect fears of growing Islamisation among non-Muslims and more liberal Malays despite its poor turnout.

What race is Islam again? And who's stoking all that tension?

Considerably fewer than one million people have showed up to the so-called 'Gathering of a Million Faithful' -- only about 5,000 are reported to be in attendance. No word if the organizers intend to give their event a more accurate name; I suppose a more accurate moniker such as 'Gathering of Five Thousand Faithful ' would have a lot less panache. Those in attendance include at least one local politician, Hassan Ali, who is noteworthy for having steadfastly defended the religious police raid on a Christian church in the Kuala Lumpur area in August, as well as the leader of a Malaysian jihadist and Muslim supremacist group called Perkasa (Malay for 'power' or 'strength'). Of course, event organizers had no problem obtaining a government permit for their rally; quite unlike another non Muslim Malaysian group earlier this year that tried (and failed) to obtain government permission to have a public event. "Himpun gets underway at Shah Alam Stadium," The Star, 22 October 2011:

SHAH ALAM: Himpun (Himpunan Sejuta Umat Islam) ['Gathering of a Million Faithful'] got underway at the Shah Alam Stadium with speeches and the singing of religious songs Saturday.

Among the VIPs at the gathering were Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali and Selangor executive councillor Datuk Hassan Ali.

The people had arrived since noon under an overcast sky. Most media organisations reported the number of people present at 5,000. The stadium can seat 88,000. Participants at the rally were also seen with brochures titled Siapa bertanggung jawab kristiankan Melayu diSelangor (Who is responsible for Christianing the Malays in Selangor).

Event organizers have given their word that this event is 'non political'.

Apparently these presumptive would-be defenders of Islam haven't gotten the message that there's no conspiracy by Christians against Muslims or Islam in Malaysia. But why let reality get in the way of a good conspiracy yarn? Muslims know better than to let a perfectly good infidel-hating rumor go to waste. From "Nasyid artists back Himpun gathering", by Mohamed Hosni Ibrahim, The Malaysian Insider, 18 Oct 2011:
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 18 — The Nasyid Artists Association of Malaysia (Munsyid) will take part in the Himpun gathering this weekend in a show of support and solidarity.

A coalition of Muslim groups are planning a rally called ‘Himpunan Sejuta Umat’ (Himpun), or ‘Gathering of a Million Faithful’, against Christians “challenging the sovereignty of Islam” this Saturday.

A million? The intended venue is a sports stadium that only holds about 80,000.

Organised by various right-wing groups such as Perkasa with the backing of both Umno and PAS Youth, the gathering could further raise religious tensions that have intensified in recent months following allegations of the proselytism of Muslims by Christians.

Raising religious tensions? Religious persecution of non Muslims by Muslims would be a far more apt description.

Representing 60 Nasyid artists in Malaysia, Munsyid will provide entertainment at the Shah Alam Stadium during the intermission of the Himpun event, which has been themed ‘Selamatkan Akidah Umat’, or ‘Save the Believers’ Creed’.

“We will use mainstream media, music and concert activities to help curb and stop this trend from prevailing,” said Munsyid advisor and Rabbani mentor, Sohibul Fadhil, at a press conference today.

“Proselytism of Muslims has been carried out through social services and entertainment, in a planned and civil manner on the pretext of religious tolerance.

See how those infidels are always plotting and conspiring against Islam? Again, no actual evidence is required; the Christians' mere presence in Malaysia is deemed as sufficient offense. That's why the Muslims are presumably planning a fresh binge of religious intolerance to remedy the 'problem'.  And to show us greater insight into this problem is the PAS Youth chief Nasrudin Hassan Tantawi, as quoted in "PAS divided over rally", by Sira Habibu, The Star, 19 Oct 2011:

[Nasrudin] said attempts to sway the faith of Muslims were being made via the 5F traps: food that is non-halal and harmful; fun that makes them idle to their religious commitments; broken families; films that are mind-corrupting; and fashion-wear that is sexually stimulating.

Food, films, fun and fashion -- who would have guessed that the followers of the 'perfect religion' were so vulnerable?

Malaysia's beleaguered Christians can breathe a sigh of relief; the Muslim authorities have, for now, ceased the official investigation into the (laughable) idea that Christians are plotting to take over the country and make Christianity into the official religion. A followup on this story from May of this year; "Home Ministry confirms no case in Christianity becoming official religion," by Aaron Ngui, The Sun Daily, 17 October 2011:

GEORGE TOWN (Oct 16, 2011): Investigations have found no evidence to support allegations of efforts to make Christianity the official religion of the country, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein confirmed.

At a press conference today, Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi said this was in Hishammuddin's written parliamentary reply to Kulim MP Zulkifli Noordin, and therefore there is no evidence to incriminate any individuals in the matter.

Ooi pointed out that the investigation papers had been referred to the Attorney General's (AG) Chambers and the case has been classified as NFA (no further action) by the deputy public prosecutor.

In other words, after more than five months of investigating involving government prosecutors and going all the way to a major government ministry, with thousands of man hours and an untold sum of money expended, only now are the Malaysian authorities ready to drop the case that had precious little merit in the first place. No one can assert that Islam's permanent sense of conspiracy-addled paranoia comes cheap.

Zakhir Mohamed, the author of the blog ‘bigdogdotcom’ first suggested the existence of the alleged conspiracy, reporting a hearsay account of a plan to make Christianity the official religion of Malaysia and for a Christian to be Prime Minister.

The allegation was then featured on the front page of Utusan Malaysia on May 7. Another blog ‘Marahku’ also carried the allegation but later removed the posting.

Mind you, this entire government investigation was launched by Muslim bloggers who offered not a shred of proof. Additionally, these Muslim bloggers, the Utusan Malaysia (government owned) newspaper and other Muslims involved will likely face no punishment for their actions.

The second-class Christians of Malaysia may be in the clear, but it is safety of a very temporary kind. When the next whiff of a rumor of infidel malfeasance pops up -- which is 100% certain; it could happen as soon as tomorrow -- the mighty Muslim machine of justice will swing into action. Muslim brutalities are ignored and excused, but conspiracy theories? The Muslim mind is an indeed fertile place for that.

Words fail, except to say you just can't make this stuff up. An update on this story. "Malaysian polygamy club 'encourages group sex'," from Agence France-Presse, October 15:

An "Obedient Wife Club" known in Malaysia for its controversial views has published a book urging men in polygamous Muslim marriages to have group sex with their wives, a report said Friday.
The club, formed earlier this year, has made headlines with its radical suggestions on sex and marriage in conservative, Muslim-majority Malaysia.
They include earlier calling on women to be "whores in bed" to prevent their men from straying and pursuing divorce.
In a 115-page book titled "Islamic Sex, Fighting Jews to Return Islamic Sex to the World," the group calls on Muslim husbands to have sex with all their wives simultaneously, The Star daily reported.

That sounds about like an Islamic supremacist porn comic book.

One chapter, "How Sex Becomes Worship," contains unusually explicit sexual descriptions for a Malaysian publication, such as a tutorial on breast-fondling.

If they overreach and somehow equate sex with salat, they might run afoul of their target audience. That could be awkward.

AFP was unable to immediately obtain a copy of the reported book, published by Global Ikhwan, the Malaysian Islamic group that formed the wives' club.
Global Ikhwan first shot to prominence in 2009 when it formed the equally controversial "Polygamy Club".
Global Ikhwan member Maznah Taufik told AFP the book was exclusively for wives' club members and declined to comment further.
The Star said Jamil Khir Baharom, Malaysia's minister in charge of Islamic affairs, has promised to investigate the book's contents.
Malaysia bans books deemed to be pornographic or insulting to Islam.
The "Obedient Wife Club" said at its June launch that it had 800 members in Malaysia and another 200 overseas.
Polygamy is legal for Muslims, who make up more than 60 percent of Malaysia's population. Men are allowed to take up to four wives.

That's Sharia. That's Qur'an 4:3.

A 2010 study by a Muslim activist group found that men in polygamous relationships struggled to meet the needs of all their wives and children, and that the result was often unhappy and cash-strapped families.
Maria Chin Abdullah, executive director of women's advocacy group Empower, called the book a "very backward, narrow way of presenting women's role".

It is insulting to both men and women. The responsibility for the success or failure of the marriage is placed entirely on the woman (or women), while the man is portrayed as a combination of Beavis and Butt-Head on steroids.

"It's really an affront to the women's rights movement," she said. "We have come forward so far to say women are not just sex objects."

Cambodia's ban (or at least suspension) comes after a number of its citizens have been reported as being beaten and raped while working here in Malaysia. Funny how that keeps happening in majority Muslim countries -- poor people from third world countries endure working in brutal conditions that closely resemble slavery and the antebellum plantations of the old American South. Unless governments like Cambodia's intervene as has been done in this particular instance, the masses are compelled by poverty and persistent unemployment in their homelands to keep coming to work in Muslim lands, despite all the horror stories that these forsaken people have likely heard about what happens far too often to other non Muslim workers in Muslim nations like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Pakistan Muslim-occupied India, and others.

It is true that this Malaysian media article doesn't address the issue, but how many of these Cambodian maids were beaten, raped and otherwise brutalized by Muslims or Muslim employers while here in Malaysia? Consider that Malaysia already has a lengthy and sordid track record on human trafficking and systematically persecuting its own non Muslim population. And with the widespread depredations of Muslims towards non Muslims in other Muslim countries to also go by, we likely already have our answer. From "Cambodia stops its citizens from working as maids in Malaysia," The Star, 14 October 2011:

PHNOM PENH (Reuters): Cambodia has banned its citizens from going to work in Malaysia as maids, its prime minister said on Friday, following a series of horrific reports of beatings and rapes.

The order follows a similar ban imposed by Indonesia on its citizens from taking new jobs as domestic workers in Malaysia, where maids are common in middle class households, thanks in part to a large migrant labour pool.

“I would like to congratulate the prime minister for the suspension,” Cambodia opposition lawmaker Mu Sochua of the Sam Rainsy Party told Reuters after the decision by Prime Minister Hun Sen.

Cambodia's Community Legal Education Center, which is working with abused domestic workers, said there had been reports of three maids who were killed in Malaysia, and two were raped and kept in isolation, their passports held from them.

An Bunhak, president of the Association of Cambodian Recruiting Agencies, said it would uphold the order from the government to stop sending people to work as maids in Malaysia.

Developments continue to emerge in regards to the raid that was not a raid conducted by the Malaysian religious thugs for Allah police on a Kuala Lumpur-area church last August. It seems that the Muslim authorities have made their final determinations as to what happened, and have proclaimed the infidels guilty of trying to proselytize to Muslims (which is illegal in Malaysia) by continuing to rely on what a Malaysian Catholic bishop refers to as 'dubious evidence'. What the bishop fails to realize is that under Shariah, the infidel is automatically presumed guilty, and Muslims are under no compunction to substantially prove anything; in fact a Muslim solely accusing a non Muslim of misconduct is prima facie evidence under Shariah. Americans would be well advised to remember this before allowing Islamic law to embed itself any deeper into the American legal system. From "Bishop: Hasan has been 'grossly negligent'", Malaysia Chronicle, 11 October 2011:

Catholic Bishop Paul Tan Chee Ing (pic) today reminded Hasan Ali of PAS [Malaysia's Islamist Party], the Selangor minister for Islamic affairs, that he is a “an elected representative of a party that cannot rely on dubious evidence when accusing others of wrongdoing”.

Responding to Hasan’s opinion that yesterday’s statement by the Selangor sultan showed that there was Christian proselytisation of Muslims at a function hosted by a Christian group in August, the head of the Catholic Church in the Malacca-Johor diocese said: “More than any other party, PAS has to be extremely fastidious about the evidence before preferring an accusation.”

He explained: “Need I remind him his party wants to implement a judicial system - at least in one state in the country - that in the terminal finality of the punishments it encompasses makes the sifting of evidence a matter of the gravest responsibility.

“In leaping to his conclusions in the matter of alleged Christian proselytisation of Muslims at the dinner hosted by the Damansara Utama Methodist Centre (DUMC), Hasan has been grossly negligent in respect of evidence evaluation.

“He has done a grave disservice to the cause of the judicial system his party is on record as propounding for the good of citizens in this country.

“People are going to look at the way he has leaped from arbitrary fact to accusatory conclusion in this matter and say what kind of system is his party propounding that allows a grave accusation to be preferred on a dubious evidentiary basis.”

Islam is the system that PAS favors and it, good sir, is a system of conquest and humiliation for the dhimmis (non Muslims) in accordance with Quran 9:29: "Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day ... (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued."

Bishop Paul Tan reminded Hasan that “not only in Selangor but every other state in Malaysia, his party is in contention with the supposedly corrupt and unprincipled”.

“Therefore it is incumbent upon him to hold himself to a higher standard of public conduct and exposition than of those he is in contention with.”

The bishop said he was “extremely dismayed” that Hasan has “now compounded his initial error committed last August when he leaped to a conclusion about what had allegedly happened at the DUMC function and was in peril of disciplinary action by his party”.

“Just because the Sultan of Selangor, against the better counsels of his constitutional role as non-partisan arbiter, has stooped to partisanship in this matter, it doesn’t mean the state minister of religion can ride pillion.

“The let-off his party afforded him when it did not take disciplinary action has become a licence for him to disport as he wishes. So much for a higher standard of conduct by a senior PAS legislator,” mused Bishop Paul Tan.

The therapeutic culture meets Islam's apostasy law in modern, moderate Malaysia. "Proselytising of Muslims is punishable by prison terms of various lengths in most Malaysian states." That shows they're moderate: in more Sharia-compliant societies, apostasy is punishable by death. "Muslims get therapy after church meet," from AP, October 10 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):

Kuala Lumpur - Islamic authorities will provide counselling to a dozen Malaysian Muslims to "restore their belief and faith" after they attended a community dinner at a church hall, a royal sultan said on Monday.

The case has triggered worries among officials in Muslim-majority Malaysia that some non-Muslims were trying to convert Muslims. Proselytising of Muslims is punishable by prison terms of various lengths in most Malaysian states.

Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, the constitutional ruler of Malaysia's central Selangor state, said Islamic officials who inspected a dinner at a Methodist church hall in early August found "evidence that there were attempts to subvert the faith and belief of Muslims".

The sultan did not elaborate on the evidence or mention Christians in his statement, but said the evidence was "insufficient for further legal actions to be taken".

‘Unauthorised raid’

Church officials had repeatedly denied any proselytisation occurred at the dinner, which they described as a multiethnic gathering to celebrate the work of a community organization that worked with women, children and HIV patients.

Christian leaders had also criticized Islamic state enforcement officials for what they called an unauthorised raid.

Malaysia's state sultans command immense moral clout particularly among Malaysia's ethnic Malay Muslims, who regard them as the top authorities on Islamic issues. Muslims, who comprise nearly two-thirds of the country's 28 million people, are not legally permitted to change religion.

"We command that (Islamic officials) provide counselling to Muslims who were involved in the said dinner, to restore their belief and faith in the religion of Islam," Sultan Sharafuddin said....

The sultan added on Monday he was "gravely concerned and extremely offended by the attempts of certain parties to weaken the faith and belief of Muslims".

"We hope that after this, any and all activities ... for the purposes of spreading other religions to Muslims in Selangor must be ceased immediately," he said.

Malaysia's non-Muslims mainly comprise Christians, Buddhists and Hindus, some of whom have complained in recent years that enforcement officials are often overzealous in trying to uphold Islam and fail to respect the rights of minorities.

Naaah. Couldn't be.

Forward thinking Muslims of Malaysia's most 'piously Muslim' political party, PAS, are trying to usher in the future now; a future where Islamic law is in complete control of every aspect of every person's life in the country. PAS says they are willing to 'discuss' the issue, but this is of course a thin veneer of reasonableness. The implementation of hudud is, as they have already said (and keep telling us), a matter beyond question and not up for negotiation or debate of any kind. Following up this story; "PAS willing to discuss hudud", by Syed Azhar and Farah Fazanna Zulhana, The Star, 8 October 2011:
KOTA BARU: PAS, which is going ahead with its move to implement hudud law, is willing to discuss the issue with Umno [Malaysia's main governmental party] and the Malay Rulers to dispel doubts.
The Malay rulers are the nominally ruling monarchs that most states in Malaysia have; they have mainly ceremonial roles in Malaysia's constitutional monarchy. Their support is usually not vital but is symbolically important, and as they are all Muslims, they will of course fall in line on the issue of hudud.
Party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said PAS was willing to give room to Umno to discuss this matter “and not to debate”.

“Umno has its Islamic religious bureau while PAS has its Dewan Ulama and the Rulers can be represented by muftis.

“What is wrong about having a dialogue or discourse on hudud?

In other words, what is wrong with discussing your unconditional surrender to Islam?

“Sitting together to discuss the matter is the best platform,” he said after giving a speech during a Pakatan Rakyat ceramah here on Thursday night.

During the same function, Islamic International University law lecturer Prof Dr Abdul Aziz Bari said the implementation of hudud law must have the full support of the people.

According to Malaysia's deputy prime minister (who is not a PAS member), all Muslims are compelled to support all aspects of Shariah, including hudud. As for the support of non Muslims, that's surely less important. There are no doubt many persuasive ways to compel this from the kufr, should this be required.

He added that if PAS won the general election by defeating Umno, it would have absolute control in the implementation of hudud.

“PAS can implement hudud either through political will or with the help of the Malay Rulers,” he said in his speech at the stadium.

But there is some local opposition to hudud, and it comes from what might be considered an unlikely source.

In Kuala Lumpur, Sisters in Islam (SIS) insisted that hudud law should not be implemented because it was unfair and discriminatory towards women.

Its acting executive director Ratna Osman said SIS had maintained its opposition to the law since 1993, when the PAS-led Kelantan Government passed the Syariah Criminal Law Enactment (II) 1993 (Hudud Law).

Terengganu passed a similar enactment in 2003 when PAS ruled the state then.

She added that hudud law denied women’s rights and went against the Federal Constitution.

Shariah denies women's rights? How Islamophobic!

Of course they would. As Malaysia's deputy prime minister himself pointed out, it is the duty of all Muslims everywhere to advocate and push for shariah, and by extension hudud laws. Any infidels who are still afraid of said laws are, at the very least, misguided and likely Islamophobic as well. Following up on this story; "PAS to continue to champion hudud law, says president", by Ian McIntyre and S. Arulldas, The Star, 2 October 2011:

KEPALA BATAS: PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has defended his party’s firm stance on adopting hudud law, saying it is a law that should not be questioned.

He blamed [Malaysia's ruling party] Umno for causing non-Muslims to be confused and afraid of the law.

“To implement hudud law has always been a struggle in PAS. We will continue to campaign for it,” he said when opening the one-day PAS 60th anniversary celebration at the Millennium Hall here yesterday.

Later at a press conference, PAS spiritual adviser Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said he would pray that the hudud and qisas jurisprudence law would be adopted in the country eventually although there was currently strong opposition from [Chinese-Malaysian Democratic Action Party or DAP].

He also claimed DAP had agreed in principle to the hudud legislation, which was passed in Kelantan and Terengganu in 1993 and 2003 respectively, but wanted its adoption to be based on the Federal Constitution.

Nik Abdul Aziz vowed that he would pray for Pakatan Rakyat to take over the Federal Government with two-thirds majority in the next general election so that the constitution could be amended to incorporate hudud and qisas into the Syariah court system.

For hudud and qisas to be adopted at the state level, the Federal Constitution must be amended.

Nik Abdul Aziz, who is Kelantan Mentri Besar, said he was surprised that people could accept the death penalty yet oppose hudud.

There is no death sentence in hudud. It is just preventative and educational. Our [current] death penalty law [in Malaysia] is cruel, unlike hudud,” he said.

Well, if cutting off hands and murdering apostates is 'preventative and educational', then non-violent websites like Jihad Watch must be also considered by Muslims and their friends to be 'preventative and educational'.
