Washington Square News is the student newspaper of New York University, but it is editorially and financially independent from the university, and has a circulation of about 60,000 in lower Manhattan -- one of the nation's foremost epicenters of the far Left. It is noteworthy and disquieting how quickly the restriction of the freedom of speech has become a fashionable opinion among the Leftist intelligentsia at universities and elsewhere, and how enthusiastically Leftists are embracing open foes of the freedom of speech like Reza Aslan and Mona Eltahawy as acceptable commentators on current events and even as heroes. Left fascism like that displayed by Aslan and Eltahawy increasingly threatens the freedom of all Americans.

"Have we taken free speech too far?," by Faria Mardhani in Washington Square News, September 26:

As of this week, anti-Islamic ads reading, “In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat Jihad” are legally being displayed in subways across New York City.

The ads are funded by the American Freedom Defense Initiative, an organization co-founded by Pamela Geller who also co-founded the Stop Islamization of America.

Before discussing the implications of the ad, it is essential to clarify that these ads are anti-Islamic and not just pro-Israel. The Arab-Israeli conflict is fundamentally a political conflict: It is a conflict over lands that both parties consider rightfully their own. This ad is playing on the fact that the states that support Palestine militarily are a majority-Muslim; using the terms Jihad and Islam interchangeably. The ad is portraying the conflict as essentially religious rather than political, but what is most infuriating is that it is likening an entire faith to savagery.

This common claim doesn't become true by being oft-repeated. The ad doesn't actually mention Islam, so the assertion that it is "using the terms Jihad and Islam interchangeably" is in Faria Mardhani's mind, not in reality. Anyway, even if it were, would that really matter? Lost in the discussion is the question of whether the jihad against Israel, which is rooted in Islamic texts and teachings, is indeed savage, with its attacks on innocent civilians and gleeful celebration of those attacks by the populace.

The ad goes much further than only discussing the Arab-Israeli conflict. It sends an insulting message about Muslims worldwide. If we assume the ad is using Jihad and Islam interchangeably, it implies:

1. The battle for Israel is a war against all Muslims.
2. All Muslims are savages.
3. All Muslims are anti-Israel.
4. The term Jihad can loosely be defined as the Palestinian perspective on the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Absolutely none of this is implied in the ad. As Pamela Geller has often pointed out, if peaceful Muslims really oppose the violence that is being committed in the name of jihad and Islam, they should be standing with us. That they do not is telling.

The FDI incorrectly defines Jihad as a general Holy War without understanding the many facets of the true meaning of Jihad and the restrictions Islam places on Muslims concerning violence. They clearly lack accurate information about Islam and are hoping to prevent others from obtaining it with these ads.

I am all for people obtaining accurate information about Islam. I've written twelve books full of accurate information about Islam. The ad is not a treatise on jihad. All of this about "the restrictions Islam places on Muslims concerning violence" is irrelevant. The ad asks people to support Israel instead of supporting the savage jihad against it. That's all.

Although the Metropolitan Transportation Authority appealed the ads, a District Court Judge legalized the advertisements on the basis of the First Amendment. The United States is one of the only democracies in the world that does not prohibit hate speech that incites animosity toward certain groups of people even though acts like this are clearly insulting the spirit of the First Amendment. The U.S. legal system’s refusal to accept this minimizes equality among Americans and reduces America’s sense of democracy.

Note the Orwellian leap of logic: the less free people are to say what they think, the more democracy we will have. This is the Leftist and Islamic supremacist vision of democracy; it is rather akin to the elections held in Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union, when the ruling party would garner 99% of the votes.

If any group is targeted by hate speech, its dignity and its right to self-respect is not being protected by national law. These ads are framing Muslims and Americans as two groups with irreconcilable differences, categorizing Muslim Americans as non-Americans. The ads minimize the true citizenship that Muslims hold in America and subject Muslims to hostility, violence and discrimination. This is a clear lack of social security.

No one is guaranteed "dignity" and a "right to self-respect" by "national law." This is Sharia language, not American language: we see Islamic supremacists day in and day out in reports I post at Jihad Watch demanding respect, and brutalizing those whom they think are not giving it to them. If some group is guaranteed "dignity" and a "right to self-respect" by law, then by law it can censor what it believes impugns its dignity and self-respect. This group thus becomes a protected class that can carry out its agenda unimpeded by criticism or resistance. And that is the overall agenda here: to establish Muslims in just that position.

Several groups have been marginalized by regrettable actions in America’s history, including the open persecution of Jews, the Japanese, African-Americans and homosexuals. In all four cases, the disregarded group was only afforded second-class citizenship. These ads will prove that the U.S. legal system has not left that America in the past. The ads will open the door to more outright persecution of Muslims, providing an extension of colonization, of Orientalism and of imperialism. They will lead to the west and the east having a true “Clash of Civilizations” and delaying the process of learning about each other.

Hysteria: calling for resistance to jihad savagery, such as the cold-blooded murder of the Fogel family in Egypt, is opening the door to persecution of Muslims. Therefore we must not resist jihad savagery, and all will be well. Won't it?

The decision that the United States must now make is whether hate speech like this should be legal. Do values of free speech override the values of equality and of preventing profound personal offense to any singular group? Was the First Amendment passed with the intention of grouping very diverse people into one entity and then vilifying them? Living in America, we are constantly valorizing free speech, and in my opinion, this makes it easier to trample over other values. We must not forget that the United States is first a democracy that promises to protect all of its citizens and treat them with equality. An ad like this inherently creates a hierarchy within society, placing the civilized man or American at the top and the savage or the Muslim underneath. If the U.S. government is willing to overlook the dignity of Muslims to uphold what the FDI chooses to call free speech, it has very clearly failed to be a true democracy and protect its citizens.

There is the call: jettison the First Amendment. And make no mistake: this is coming, unless we act strenuously now to defend it and resist these calls for authoritarianism wherever and whenever they appear.

From Pamela Geller over at Atlas Shrugs:

Hamas-CAIR has seized a statement by Swedish Muhammad cartoonist Lars Vilks in Sweden's The Local and run with it. Vilks was quoted by the Swedish enemedia as if he were equating speaking at our September 11 SION International Freedom Defense Congress with speaking to the Ku Klux Klan. This was, of course, not at all what Vilks said or meant, and in a statement he is now circulating he sets the record straight and reiterates his strong support for SION's work:
An utterance I made in an interview in a Swedish newspaper on the 30th of August has been misunderstood. What I said has been taken out of context and made into a statement which is a total misunderstanding of what was said: ‘Vilks cites KKK to defend talk to U.S. anti-muslim group’.

In my artistic work I document invitations I get from all kinds of organisations and groups of interest. This includes e.g. departments at Universities, political parties, management groups, school classes, art societies, organisations for freedom of speech, religious societies, debate programs in television and other media etc. The content in my lectures is about free speech and especially the right for artists to use artistic expressions without being censored. The question asked in the interview was if I could accept an invitation from extreme political groups. This has never happened but I said that if it should happen I might accept it as a part of my investigation project. SION has of course nothing to do with that. SION is a defender of the basic values in Western Culture, including freedom of expression and equality of rights for all people, with no special rights for any group. SION is firmly against all forms of racism and religious supremacism. I also and strongly support SION's important critique of political Islam.

Register for our World Freedom Congress, September 11, 2012, UN Plaza Millennium Hotel, 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Email me at PamelaGeller@gmail.com. We have just added more seats, but there is little space left. The principal focus of the Congress will be pertaining to Islamic supremacist attempts to restrict the freedom of speech in the free world, and the smear campaigns against freedom fighters in newspapers and media institutions in the West.

The objective of this freedom congress is to develop media-related mechanisms to address the smear campaigns. It will also address the media's double standard regarding Islam and other religions. The Congress will discuss at length the reasons behind and the results of the Western media's offensive campaigns against freedom of speech and the truth about Islam, jihad, Islamic supremacism and Muslims.

The International Freedom Defense Congress will represent a quantum leap in media action, as it discusses, beyond rhetoric, the practical steps to address the phenomenon of the Islamic war against free speech.

Speakers include:
Ambassador John Bolton
Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks
NY State Senator David Storobin
Mordechai Kedar (Israel)
Cliff Kincaid (Accuracy In Media)

In "Standing against left-wing fascists in Stockholm" in WND today, Pamela Geller gives a useful summary of the counter-jihad event last Saturday:

Last Saturday heralded the dawning of a new era of cooperation between pro-freedom groups in Europe, the United States, Australia and elsewhere. Freedom fighters from around the world converged in Stockholm to stand with one voice against oppression, tyranny and fascism, rallying for free speech and human rights against Islamic supremacism and leftist tyranny.

The left-fascist thugs were out in force: Police at one point found a suspicious package from the leftists and examined it out of concern that it was a bomb. It turned out to be a large firecracker, but clearly the left-fascist who left it wanted police to think it was a bomb and to create an atmosphere of menace and terror so people would be too frightened to attend our event.

Swedish police in riot gear cordoned off the area of our rally on both sides and blocked entrance to it with police vans. But while the leftist media, which swarmed around our event like jackals, will tell you that we are the threat, the police had to face violence only from the leftist protesters. Desperate that our message of freedom not be heard, they blew vuvuzelas, screamed bloody murder, chanted “EDL go to hell” and kept up a constant din – while throwing eggs and firecrackers at the police and at any pro-freedom activist who got too close to them. One firecracker exploded in a policeman’s face; he had to be taken away in an ambulance.

Nonetheless, several hundred people braved the leftist thugs and police barricades and joined us, unbowed and resolutely determined to stand for freedom and truth. The enemedia was out in force as well, which was noteworthy in itself: In Europe this was a huge story (even Turkish media were there), while in the U.S. the media seem determined to ignore the issue of Islamic supremacist encroachment upon our freedoms.

There was a series of speakers from around the world. I explained to the freedom fighters who came to hear us speak that the battle is for individual rights. It is not a religious war; it is a fight for the smallest minority in the world, the individual, and we are fighting for what is good and what is right. We are right, they are wrong, and wrong is evil and anti-life. After I kicked off the event and Robert Spencer spoke (“Tolerance of the intolerant is suicidal”), the English Defence League’s Tommy Robinson gave a rousing speech on our need to defend free societies.

He was then followed by representatives of Defense Leagues from all over Europe, as well as from the Q Society in Australia and Paul Weston of the British Freedom Party. In the crowd were people from across Europe and the world, including a hearty group of ex-Muslims from Iran who told me that a huge number of people in Iran are fed up with the Islamic Republic and Islam in general – but Barack Obama let them down in 2009....

Read it all.

SION to Hold International Congress and Media Workshop to Address Islamic Supremacist War Against Free Speech

NEW YORK: The first session of the International Freedom Defense Congress, the operating body of the human rights organization Stop Islamization of Nations (SION), will be held in New York on September 11, 2012. The principal focus of the Congress will be a media workshop pertaining to Islamic supremacist attempts to restrict the freedom of speech in the free world, and the smear campaigns against freedom fighters in newspapers and media institutions in the West.

"The objective of this first-of-its-kind workshop is to develop media-related mechanisms to address the smear campaigns," SION said in a statement. It will also address the media's double standard regarding Islam and other religions, as epitomized in March 2012 by the New York Times' running of an anti-Catholic smear ad and rejection of a SION ad telling the truth about Islamic jihad.

It said the workshop will discuss at length the reasons behind and the results of the Western media's offensive campaigns against freedom of speech and the truth about Islam, jihad, Islamic supremacism and Muslims, which it added still occur from time to time.

"The workshop will represent a quantum leap in media action, as it discusses, beyond rhetoric, the practical steps to address the phenomenon of the Islamic war against free speech," SION President Pamela Geller said.

Freedom fighters from all over the globe, journalists, intellectuals and academicians will be among the participants in the workshop, which will consist of brainstorming sessions to develop mechanisms for cooperation with external partners, and to develop an action plan to address the phenomenon of the Islamic war against free speech.

The organisation noted that the workshop is of particular importance as it is the first ever to address the implications of Resolution 16/18 of the United Nations Human Rights Council, the stated goal of which is to "combat intolerance, negative stereotyping and stigmatisation of, discrimination, incitement to violence, and violence against persons based on religion or belief," but which is actually designed to restrict truthful speech about Islamic supremacism and jihad, so as to render the West mute and defenseless before the advancing threat of jihad and Sharia.

Resolution 16/18, which was adopted by the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva in March 2011, was backed by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at the most recent Istanbul Process Conference in Washington in December.

This is widely viewed as a significant step toward furthering OIC efforts to destroy the freedom of speech and impose Sharia blasphemy laws on the free world.

"We are holding this Congress on the eleventh anniversary of the day jihad came to America in order to strike a blow for freedom," Geller said.

SION President Geller is the author of Stop Islamization of America: A Practical Guide to the Resistance (WND Books) and The Post-American Presidency: The Obama Administration's War On America (Simon & Schuster). SION Vice President is the acclaimed author and Islam expert, Robert Spencer, author of the New York Times bestsellers, The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam (and the Crusades) and The Truth About Muhammad (both Regnery).

The SION Board of Advisers also includes Oskar Freysinger, a Swiss Parliamentarian and member of the Swiss People's Party (SVP), who won international renown for his leadership of the successful campaign against the construction of minarets in Switzerland; Cliff Kincaid, editor of Accuracy in Media (AIM) and a leader of the struggle to keep the jihadist propaganda network Al-Jazeera off American airwaves; Dr. Ashraf Rameleh, President of Voice of the Copts, an international organization standing up for the human rights of Coptic Christians and all religious minorities against religious bigotry and intolerance; Dr. Ali Sina, the renowned ex-Muslim author and founder of FaithFreedom.org; Dr. Wafa Sultan, the ex-Muslim human rights activist and author; the German pro-freedom activist Stefan Herre of Politically Incorrect; the Israeli author Dr. Mordechai Kedar; the Hindu human rights activist Babu Suseelan; Anders Gravers of Stop Islamisation of Europe (SIOE); and Canadian publisher and free speech defender Ezra Levant.

Speakers at SION's International Freedom Defense Congress will include Kedar, Rameleh, Sina, Kincaid, and Gravers, as well as Danish free speech advocate Lars Hedegaard; Italian human rights activists Magdi Christiano Allam and Valentina Colombo; English politician and freedom fighter Paul Weston; and renowned Muhammad cartoonist Lars Vilks. More speakers will be announced shortly.

SION stands for:
-- The freedom of speech - as opposed to Islamic prohibitions of "blasphemy" and "slander," which are used effectively to quash honest discussion of jihad and Islamic supremacism;
-- The freedom of conscience - as opposed to the Islamic death penalty for apostasy;
-- The equality of rights of all people before the law - as opposed to Sharia's institutionalized discrimination against women and non-Muslims.

This video went up the night of the AFDI/SIOA Summer Night for Human Rights, as the event was livestreamed; however, many people have been asking me if a video is available, so by popular demand I am posting it again. Note that the conference actually starts at 6:20 of the video.

The world ignores the oppression, subjugation and slaughter of non-Muslims and secular Muslims under the Sharia. We called for human rights and equality for all under the law.

Hamas-linked CAIR held a cynical and propagandistic "A Summer Night for Civil Rights" down the street from our event, featuring "Islamophobia" victimhood posturing from Islamic supremacist hate propagandist Dean Obeidallah and others -- with nary a word about the plight of apostates from Islam or other victims of human rights abuses sanctioned by Islamic law. At our "Summer Night for Human Rights" we called them out on their hypocrisy. The world's leading apostates from Islam spoke at our AFDI/SIOA event in Manhattan Beach, California

Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer hosted:

Nonie Darwish: Ex-Muslim and human rights activist raised in Gaza; director of Former Muslims United; author of Now They Call Me Infidel; Cruel and Usual Punishment; and The Devil We Don't Know.

Ibn Warraq: Pakistani ex-Muslim and renowned scholar; author of Why I Am Not A Muslim; The Quest for the Historical Muhammad; Leaving Islam; Why the West Is Best; and many other books.

Walid Shoebat: Palestinian former jihad terrorist and member of the Muslim Brotherhood; now a Christian and a peace activist.

[Redacted]: Originally from Morocco, the son of a religious Muslim family. Because of rumors that he was an apostate, he was stabbed several times in his stomach and left for dead on the streets of Morocco by people crying "apostate." Now he has gained asylum in the U.S.

Dr. Bushra Qader: Originally from Iraq, she is an activist for the rights of former Muslims.

Ramin Parsha: Iranian NajatTV host who was born and raised as a devout Shiite Muslim is Shiraz, Iran. He is associate Pastor at Nejat Church with Pastor Reza Safa, who also was an Islamic supremacist in Iran and is now one of the most prominent ex-Muslim Christian pastors in America.

Amani Mustafa: Ex-Muslim from Egypt, TV producer and host of a Christian show, The Muslim Woman, appealing to Muslim women in the Middle East, North Africa, and the Arabian Peninsula. Her show reaches 300 million households globally with 50 million viewers per live program.

Mohammed Asghar: Originally from Bangladesh, ex-Muslim author and an authority on the Qur'an.

We stood against sharia and the death penalty for Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani, sentenced to death in Iran for apostasy. All the schools of Islamic law, without exception, mandate death for those who leave Islam. We dedicated the Town Hall to Pastor Youcef because he is in imminent danger of being murdered for his beliefs, and we invited numerous apostates from Islam to speak about the death sentence they must live under every moment because they have dared to leave Islam. We called upon Hamas-linked CAIR to stand up for Pastor Youcef and other victims of Islam’s apostasy law, and to stand for human rights for all.

Events like this one are crucial for raising public awareness of the nature of the conflict we are in, and that threatens to destroy our freedoms. But they're prohibitively expensive to hold. Please help us continue the fight. Become a member of SIOA here and here. Follow us on twitter, SIOAmerica. It was a great evening last Saturday as we stood for freedom and exposed Hamas-linked CAIR's hypocrisy and fronting for Islamic jihad and the death penalty for apostates. Pamela Geller has a full report here. Here are a few scenes from a memorable night.

Pamela Geller has a report on yesterday's hearing:

We just concluded our oral argument before the US Patent and Trademark Office Trademark Trial & Appeal Board in a very crowded courtroom. Apparently this case has generated a good deal of interest in the US Patent and Trademark office. This is the last administrative step, following the USPTO's refusal to register our trademark, "Stop the Islamization of America." The USPTO had rejected SIOA's trademark because it found it "disparaging" to Muslims. We argued that no law-abiding Muslim could possibly be disparaged by a trademark that reflected our goal to "stop" the Muslim Brotherhood's civilization jihad, which is what we proved that "Islamization" means. More here.

David Yerushalmi, co-founder and senior counsel to the American Freedom Law Center, argued before the TTAB on our behalf today. There was something special about today's argument, not simply because the "senior attorney" for the USPTO's office, who handled the examination and rejection, appeared as the USPTO's attorney of record (not the examining attorney of record, as is typical), and not simply because the room was packed with USPTO employees in the audience. The oral argument was special because the USPTO had no real legal or factual arguments, but instead made reference to vague and scary "geopolitical concerns and realities" of Islam and such "loaded terms" as "Stop the Islamization of America."

At the conclusion of the oral argument, the chief judge commended our legal counsel on an "extremely well argued" hearing.

Truth is, most of these administrative appeals are rubber stamps which the applicant, AFDI, must then appeal to the federal circuit. You can bet we are ready.

The irony of all this is the sharia compliant rejection of our trademark application illustrates the chilling fallout of  the"islamization of America."

Read it all.

The Muslim Brotherhood-linked Islamic Circle of North America is beginning a propaganda war to whitewash Sharia, and AFDI/SIOA is countering it.

Pamela Geller has the details here. And here is the text of our forthcoming radio spot in Kansas City:

Subversive groups will tell you that Sharia is just private religious law. They’re lying. Sharia is a political system that contravenes American freedoms in numerous ways. Sharia asserts authority over non-Muslims. It mandates discrimination, harassment, and second-class status for both non-Muslims and women. It denies free speech, which we’re seeing in America increasingly under the guise of “hate speech laws.” How can anyone support Sharia when its undermines our fundamental Constitutional liberties? Look for our billboards on I-70.

From Yahoo News:

NEW YORK, Jan. 26, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A prominent national human rights and advocacy organization is asking New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and city officials to resist efforts by the Hamas-linked Islamic supremacist hate group the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) to dictate the nature and content of anti-terror training for New York Police Department personnel

The request by the American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) and its Stop Islamization of America (SIOA) program comes after Hamas-linked CAIR, one of the nation's most notorious Islamic supremacist hate groups, demanded the resignation of New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly for allowing the counter-jihad film The Third Jihad to be shown to NYPD personnel. AFDI/SIOA respectfully requests that the New York City government repudiate this attempt by Hamas-linked CAIR to interfere with and impede counterterrorism training.

AFDI/SIOA Executive Director Pamela Geller said in a statement: "AFDI/SIOA deplores the attempts by Hamas-linked CAIR and a thoroughly compromised New York Times to undermine the security of New Yorkers by demanding the removal of accurate material about the jihad threat from NYPD training. AFDI/SIOA calls on Mayor Bloomberg to reject the persecution of Police Commissioner Kelly, and to reaffirm him in his position. New York's leaders must not cave in to Hamas-linked CAIR's campaign to outlaw the truth about jihad and Islamic supremacism, thereby making us all more vulnerable to them."

Hamas-linked CAIR is an unindicted co-conspirator in a Hamas terror funding case -- so named by the Justice Department during the trial of the Islamic charity known as the Holy Land Foundation.

CAIR has previously attempted to intimidate numerous government agencies and citizens' groups into dropping events featuring foes of international jihad activity, including SIOA's Executive Director Pamela Geller, SIOA's Associate Director Robert Spencer, ACT for America's Brigitte Gabriel, and others. In the summer of 2010 it has embarked upon a concerted campaign of intimidation and defamation to silence public figures who speak out against jihad and Islamic terrorism, including Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY), the Rev. Franklin Graham, Florida Congressional candidate Dan Fanelli, and Connecticut Congressional candidate Rick Torres.

CAIR's attempt to intimidate the NYPD and dictate its choice of training materials is consistent with its long record of pro-jihad duplicity and deception. Although it has received millions of dollars in donations from foreign Islamic entities, it has not registered as a foreign agent as required by the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), despite spreading Islamic supremacist propaganda within the United States.

Although it presents itself as a civil rights group, CAIR actually has numerous links to Islamic supremacist and jihad groups. CAIR founders Omar Ahmad and Niwad Awad (who still serves as CAIR's executive director) were present at a Hamas planning meeting in Philadelphia in 1993 where they and other Hamas operatives conspired to raise funds for Hamas and to promote jihad in the Middle East. CAIR has steadfastly refused to denounce Hamas and Hizballah as terrorist groups.

Several former CAIR officials have been convicted of various crimes related to jihad terror:

-- Ghassan Elashi, founder of CAIR's Texas chapter, in 2009
received a 65-year prison sentence for funneling over $12
million from the Islamic charity known as the Holy Land
Foundation to the jihad terrorist group Hamas, which is
responsible for murdering hundreds of Israeli civilians
-- Mousa Abu Marzook, a former CAIR official, was in 1995
designated by the U.S. government in 1995 as a "terrorist and
Hamas leader." He now is a Hamas leader in Syria.
-- Randall Royer, CAIR's former civil rights coordinator, in 2004
began serving a 20-year prison sentence for aiding al-Qaida and
the Taliban against American troops in Afghanistan and
recruiting for Lashkar e-Taiba, the jihadist group responsible
for the 2008 Mumbai jihad massacres.
-- Bassem Khafagi, CAIR's former community relations director, was
arrested for involvement with the Islamic Assembly of North
America, which was linked to al-Qaida. After pleading guilty to
visa and bank fraud charges, Khafagi was deported.
-- Rabih Haddad, a former CAIR fundraiser, was deported for his
work with the Global Relief Foundation (which he co-founded), a
terror-financing organization.

In 1998 Omar Ahmad, CAIR's co-founder and longtime Board Chairman, said: "Islam isn't in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Koran should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth."

After he received unwelcome publicity as a result of this statement, Ahmad denied saying it, several years after the fact. However, the original reporter, Lisa Gardiner of the Fremont Argus, stands by her story.

CAIR's spokesman Ibrahim Hooper once said: "I wouldn't want to create the impression that I wouldn't like the government of the United States to be Islamic sometime in the future."

SIOA is one of America's foremost organizations defending human rights, religious liberty, and the freedom of speech against Islamic supremacist intimidation and attempts to bring elements of Sharia to the United States.

Dear freedom lover:

Sinister Islamic supremacist groups like Hamas-linked CAIR and the group behind the Ground Zero Mosque, the American Society of Muslim Advancement (ASMA), are making huge end-of-the-year fundraising pushes. CAIR just sent out a call for a December fundraising goal of $240,000 to fight “Islamophobia.” Daisy Khan of ASMA is asking for money to combat “the likes of Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer.”

The enemies of freedom are well funded and determined to shut down everyone who tells the truth about jihad and Islamization. By contrast, those who dare to stand against the Islamic supremacists are – contrary to their false claims – few in number and short on resources.

Yet we have accomplished so much. In 2011 the American Freedom Defense Initiative’s Stop the Islamization of America project did all this and more:

  • We stopped the Ground Zero Mosque, an insult to all free people, in its tracks – initial plans announced by Daisy Khan to break ground on September 11, 2011 have been postponed indefinitely;
  • We fought and will continue to fight Muslim Brotherhood rabats in neighborhoods and small towns across America;
  • We dedicated the Aqsa Parvez Memorial Grove in Jerusalem, in memory of victims of honor killings worldwide. This was the first-ever recognition by anyone in the West that we would not allow the barbaric practice of Islamic honor killing to spread in free societies;
  • We prevailed in our eighteen-month struggle against Detroit’s SMART Transit after they refused to run our ads offering help to those threatened with death for leaving Islam. Don’t they have a right to live, also?
  • We filed suit against the NYC MTA in our pro-Israel, free speech legal battle after CBS Outdoor and the New York City Transit Authority approved an anti-Semitic ad campaign to run in over 1,000 subway cars but refused our pro-Israel campaign to counter this Jew-hatred and historical revisionism;
  • We exposed the dirty little secret of the meat industry: a large portion of the meat being sold is halal, but is not labeled as such. AFDI is currently working on a petition to get the labeling laws changed;
  • We alerted Americans all over the country to what the Ground Zero Mosque project is all about and who is behind it with our documentary film on the Ground Zero Mosque to packed houses all over the country.

No one is doing the work we are doing and accomplishing what we are accomplishing. No one else is putting the Islamic supremacists on the defensive and calling attention to the human rights abuses that they’re excusing and justifying the way we are.

Yet we have done all this and much more on a shoestring. We don’t have a lavish budget. We don’t have big foundations or generous endowments behind us. We don’t even draw salaries. For every initiative, we have to go begging to the few donors who see the value of our work for freedom.

Please think about the work SIOA has done, and all the things we would be able to accomplish if we only had the resources. Please consider giving something – anything – to help our work keep going. Donate through Paypal to writeatlas@aol.com or director@jihadwatch.org (tax-deductible).

We are fighting for America. We are fighting for freedom. We are fighting for you. Please join us.

WontGetMosquedAgain.jpg

Yes, it's true. We beat the mosque. The above tweet by Eboo Patel, an influential Muslim who writes in the Washington Post and elsewhere, shows just how powerful and effective the American Freedom Defense Initiative’s Stop Islamization of America program has been over the past year.

Patel, like many other Islamic supremacists these days, is trying to get Muslims and Leftists to boycott Lowe’s for dropping advertising on the deceptive and misleading All-American Muslim reality TV show. He calls strong-arming American businesses into advertising where they don’t wish to “pluralism.” But most importantly, he warns that “American Muslims will never be Ground Zero Mosque-d again.”

Patel knows that the Ground Zero mosque controversy was a huge defeat for Islamic supremacists in the U.S. And he knows it came at the hands of SIOA. Daisy Khan, wife of the Ground Zero Mosque Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf and one of the chief organizers of the project, said last year:

We were expecting some sort of, um, you know, resistance, but not an organized resistance. We were expecting that some families might need some hand-holding, we might want to speak to them. But what we did not expect is a national coalition of people coming together, the majority of them coming from outside New York. Pamela Geller is a lady, and Robert Spencer -- together the two of them have formed something called Stop Islamization of America, and that is the group that is leading this.

We led the resistance, and we won. 70% of Americans oppose the Mosque. Mosque organizers have dropped plans for a 16-story mega-mosque. They did not break ground for their new building on September 11, 2011, as Daisy Khan initially announced that they would. They’re holding soirees in the old Burlington Coat Factory building that was severely damaged in the 9/11 attacks, and that they had planned to tear down, and are pretending that their “community center” is already open.

But it is nothing like what they had planned. With Obama behind them, and New York Mayor Bloomberg doing everything he could to get them past all legal and procedural hurdles, and with the media and government elites solidly in their corner, we still prevailed. Our rallies (here and here and here) as well as our conferences, Action Alerts, and ongoing protests and information pieces at Atlas Shrugs and Jihad Watch ultimately ground the Islamic supremacist machine to a halt.

They may be back to fight for their Islamic supremacist mosque – and so will we.

We got a great deal more done this year as well. We showed our documentary film on the Ground Zero Mosque to packed houses all over the country. This film informs people like no other resource about what’s really at stake in this controversy. We fought and will continue to fight against the outrages at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, where they’re planning to place human remains of victims seven stories underground, charge admission to see them, and include lavish profiles of the 9/11 hijackers. Not surprisingly, Daisy Khan is on the Board of the commission putting together the memorial, charged with making sure the Muslim perspective is represented in every aspect of the memorial.

But we will keep fighting.

This year we also continued our work exposing the human rights abuses of Islamic law and putting Islamic supremacists on the defensive in other arenas as well. We went to Jerusalem to dedicate the Aqsa Parvez Memorial Grove in memory of victims of honor killings worldwide. This was the first-ever recognition by anyone in the West that we would not allow the barbaric practice of Islamic honor killing to spread in free societies. We will continue to remember and memorialize the victims, whom their families all too often would prefer to be forgotten.

In line with this, please join us in Dearborn, Michigan on April 29 at a conference dedicated to another victim of honor killing in North America: the Jessica Mokdad Human Rights Conference.

We’re also continuing to pursue our long struggle for our First Amendment right to freedom of speech in the Dearborn and Detroit. in our eighteen-month struggle against Detroit’s SMART Transit after they refused to run our ads offering help to those threatened with death for leaving Islam. Don’t they have a right to live, also? Yet despite the fact that we won our case, Detroit Transit is appealing the ruling and still refusing to run the ads. But here again, we are not giving up.

AFDI/SIOA also started fighting back against the Leftist/Islamic supremacist control of the narrative and manipulative, propagandistic use of the term "hate group" to marginalize organizations that are defending freedom. Our organization created and published the AFDI Threats to Freedom Index. This is the first-ever compilation of groups such as Hamas-linked CAIR, International ANSWER and many others that are working to restrict Americans’ freedoms and enable the imposition of Islamic supremacist and/or authoritarian Leftist restrictions upon our thoughts and behavior.

No one is doing the work we are doing and accomplishing what we are accomplishing. No one else is putting the Islamic supremacists on the defensive and calling attention to the human rights abuses that they’re excusing and justifying the way we are.

Yet we have done all this and much more with almost no resources. Contrary to fallacious and defamatory Leftist media reports, we don’t have a lavish budget. We don’t have big foundations or generous endowments behind us. We don’t even draw salaries from AFDI/SIOA. For every initiative, we have to go begging to the few donors who see the value of our work for freedom.

And make no mistake: the enemies of free speech made great gains in 2011 as well. The lines are being drawn, the walls are closing in, and we have to push harder than ever before, work faster than ever before, and do more work behind the scenes than we ever did before. Otherwise the forces of darkness will certainly prevail, and freedom of speech and resistance to Islamic supremacism will become dim memories in the United States.

Our work influences the culture. You can see it in the Ground Zero Mosque victory, in the attention we have called to the deceptive lack of labeling of halal meat, in the success of our bus and taxi ad campaigns calling attention to Islamic honor killing and Islam’s death penalty for apostates, and so much more.

But we can’t do it without your help.

In this great struggle, we are all the soldiers. There is no army, no law enforcement agency, no government official who is going to save our freedoms for us. We have to do it ourselves. Please think about the work AFDI/SIOA has done, and all the things we would be able to accomplish if we only had the resources. Please consider giving $100 to our work – every bus ad campaign costs $10,000 or more for just a handful of buses, so that is a minimal contribution, but every little bit helps.

We are fighting for America. We are fighting for freedom. We are fighting for you. Please join us. We have plenty more planned. And we need you. Contribute to the fight. Paypal writeatlas@aol.com or director@jihadwatch.org (tax-deductible).

We cannot do anything without your activism and your contributions.

AFDI/SIOA, VAST to Host Jessica Mokdad Human Rights Conference in Dearborn, Michigan at Hyatt Regency

NEW YORK, Dec. 5, 2011 -- The prominent human rights organization American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI), its Stop Islamization of America (SIOA) program and the Virginia Anti-Shariah Task Force (VAST) will be hosting the first-ever human rights conference dedicated to exposing the plight of women under Islamic law in Dearborn, Michigan on the anniversary of the honor murder of Jessica Mokdad: the Jessica Mokdad Human Rights Conference.

The Jessica Mokdad Human Rights Conference will be held at the Hyatt Hotel in Dearborn. After bowing to Islamic supremacist pressure and canceling a speech by Pamela Geller that had been scheduled for a Hyatt in Nashville, Tennessee, the Hyatt reversed its stance, recovered its understanding of the American principle of free speech, apologized and offered AFDI space in a Hyatt for a future Conference to make it up the human rights organization. Geller chose the Hyatt in Dearborn to stand in solidarity there with girls who are in danger of being victimized like Jessica Mokdad.

Jessica Mokdad was a 20-year-old Muslim woman in Warren, Michigan, who was brutally murdered in May 2011. Fox News Detroit reported: "Authorities say a Minnesota man killed his 20-year-old stepdaughter in Michigan because she left home and wasn't following Islam." Jessica's stepfather, a devout Muslim, tracked his stepdaughter over four states to murder her for bringing dishonor on her family.

AFDI Executive Director Pamela Geller said in a statement: "We've named the Conference after her as part of our ongoing campaign to raise awareness and bring a stop to the phenomenon of Islamic honor killing. These girls have rights, too, they're human beings, and yet they're completely forgotten in our politically correct culture, in which speech that is offensive to Islam is increasingly forbidden. We're standing for the human rights of girls like Jessica Mokdad."

Geller added: "AFDI tried to place ads on Detroit-area buses offering help to people wishing to leave Islam and threatened by their families. Detroit SMART Transit refused the ads, and we sued on free speech grounds. We won, and the ads were scheduled to run, but Detroit SMART still refused to run them - and the same week they were supposed to run, Jessica Mokdad was murdered. Perhaps if she had seen one of our ads, she would be alive today. This underscores the cowardice of Detroit-area officials and the need for this Conference in Dearborn. We welcome women seeking help and resources to escape dangerous and misogynist households."

The confirmed list of speakers includes ex-Muslim human rights activist Nonie Darwish; Sudanese ex-slave and freedom fighter Simon Deng; and James Lafferty of the Virginia Anti-Sharia Taskforce (VAST), co-host of the Conference. Also speaking will be David Wood of Acts 17 Apologetics, a Christian group that is suing the city of Dearborn for covering up Islamic honor killings performed in the area - that cover-up, and the resulting suit, will also be a focus of the Jessica Mokdad Human Rights Conference.

Hosting the Conference and also speaking are Pamela Geller, publisher of the acclaimed AtlasShrugs.com blog, executive director of AFDI and SIOA, and author of Stop the Islamization of America: A Practical Guide to the Resistance (WND Books); and AFDI/SIOA associate director Robert Spencer, the bestselling author and director of Jihad Watch.

Stop the Islamization of America is a groundbreaking new book offering the fruit of a veteran national activist's years of experience fighting back against Islamic supremacist efforts to erode our freedoms. In it, Geller offers the fruit of her experience as the national leader of the fight against the Ground Zero mega-mosque and of numerous other initiatives to defend freedom against the encroachment of Islamic law. She offers practical, tested, effective guidance on how freedom lovers can stop jihadist initiatives in local communities.

AFDI/SIOA is one of America's foremost organizations defending human rights, religious liberty, and the freedom of speech against Islamic supremacist intimidation and attempts to bring elements of Sharia to the United States.

To register for the Jessica Mokdad Human Rights Conference, please email AmericanFreedomDefense@aol.com with your name, email address and number of people.

This morning I got a call from someone who saw my number listed as the media contact on this press release. He sounded agitated, and more than a little unbalanced. After verifying that I was Robert Spencer, he fulminated against the defenders of freedom and said, "We all know what the real hate group is."

I called the number back and asked what it was; a rather puzzled secretary told me it was "Oppenheimer financial firm." It was Oppenheimer's Los Angeles office.

Does Oppenheimer Holdings know that one of their employees is making prank calls to human rights activists and heaping abuse on them because he doesn't like their politics?

Via Yahoo News:

NEW YORK, Nov. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A prominent national human rights and advocacy organization today applauded the Florida State Tea Party Convention's decision to disinvite a scheduled speaker, controversial Islamic supremacist Hassan Shibly of the Hamas-linked hate group the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

The American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) had earlier today called for such a move on the part of Tea Party officials. Shibly was scheduled to speak at the Florida State Tea Party Convention in Daytona Beach, November 4-6, 2011.

"We applaud this decision as a victory for common sense and good judgment," said AFDI National Executive Director Pamela Geller. "Hamas-linked CAIR is given a platform everywhere -- the mainstream media and even government and law enforcement routinely go to them. It is their foes who never have a platform." Geller will be addressing the Convention as scheduled.

The Investigative Project on Terrorism has noted that Shibly, the director of Hamas-linked CAIR's Tampa chapter, "has a track record of defending terrorist groups and acting as an apologist for radical Islam. Following the 2006 Israel-Lebanon War, Shibly granted legitimacy to Hizballah by characterizing it as a 'resistance movement' that provides valued social services to the Lebanese people. 'They're absolutely not a terrorist organization,' Shibly said, and 'any war against them is illegitimate.'" Hizballah has been on the U.S. State Department's list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations since 1999.

Hamas-linked CAIR frequently attempts to intimidate numerous government agencies and citizens' groups into dropping events featuring foes of international jihad activity, including Geller. Last week it falsely claimed in a press release that Florida Governor Rick Scott and Senator Marco Rubio declined to speak at the Florida State Tea Party Convention because Geller was speaking as well. In reality, neither Rubio nor Scott had ever confirmed their appearance at the Convention; they were invited but due to scheduling conflicts are unable to attend. CAIR, however, never corrected its false information, or apologized to the Tea Party or to Geller.

Hamas-linked CAIR itself has numerous ties to jihad terror, and consequently has been listed on AFDI's Threats to Freedom Index. Recently U.S. District Judge Jorge A. Solis cited "ample evidence" that CAIR participated in a "criminal conspiracy" led by the Holy Land Foundation, Hamas's main fund-raising arm in the U.S. CAIR was named an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation Hamas terror funding case.

The FBI has discontinued all contact with CAIR because of its terror ties.

CAIR has a long record of duplicity and deception. Although it has received millions of dollars in donations from foreign Islamic entities, it has not registered as a foreign agent as required by the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), despite spreading Islamic supremacist propaganda within the United States.

Although it presents itself as a civil rights group, CAIR actually has numerous links to Islamic supremacist and jihad terror groups.

* Ghassan Elashi, founder of CAIR's Texas chapter, in 2009 received a 65-year prison sentence for funneling over $12 million from the Islamic charity known as the Holy Land Foundation to the jihad terrorist group Hamas, which is responsible for murdering hundreds of Israeli civilians

* Mousa Abu Marzook, a former CAIR official, was designated by the U.S. government in 1995 as a "terrorist and Hamas leader." He now is a Hamas leader in Syria.

* Randall Royer, CAIR's former civil rights coordinator, in 2004 began serving a 20-year prison sentence for aiding al-Qaida and the Taliban against American troops in Afghanistan and recruiting for Lashkar e-Taiba, the jihadist group responsible for the 2008 Mumbai jihad massacres.

* Bassem Khafagi, CAIR's former community relations director, was arrested for involvement with the Islamic Assembly of North America, which was linked to al-Qaida. After pleading guilty to visa and bank fraud charges, Khafagi was deported.

* Rabih Haddad, a former CAIR fundraiser, was deported for his work with the Global Relief Foundation (which he co-founded), a terror-financing organization.

AFDI/SIOA is one of America's foremost organizations defending human rights, religious liberty, and the freedom of speech against Islamic supremacist intimidation and attempts to bring elements of Sharia to the United States.

This is a free speech issue. The Hutton Hotel has no right to cancel our event or any event because it doesn't like the point of view presented.

In canceling the conference because it received threats, the Hutton Hotel is kowtowing to violence and showing that terrorism works, instead of doing what it should do: stand resolutely against violent intimidation. The conference was to be well-guarded, and the hotel knew this.

The hotel's cancellation of the event is part of the ongoing efforts by Islamic supremacist groups to force non-Muslims to enforce Islamic blasphemy laws and to acquiesce to the Islamization of the public square. They have been pursuing such efforts in the U.S. and Europe for years.

It is noteworthy that Pamela Geller and I were singled out by the hotel. The cancellation of the conference illustrates the threats that Geller has warned about in her 2011 book Stop the Islamization of America (WND Books) and that I wrote about also in my 2008 book Stealth Jihad (Regnery).

We urge all freedom-loving Americans to voice your outrage at this capitulation to Islamic supremacist intimidation. Politely and courteously contact Steve Eckley, vice president of hotels for Amerimar Enterprises in Denver, which makes him the top exec for hotels at the corporation that manages the Hutton Hotel. His phone number is 720-318-4238. The Hutton Hotel is at 1808 West End Ave, Nashville, TN 37203.
