After 9/11, Saudi Arabia, “America’s longtime ally and the world’s largest oil producer had somehow become, as a senior Treasury Department official put it, ‘the epicenter’ of terrorist financing.” Of course, this is common knowledge by now, but U.S. News and World Report has a detailed report on how it happened, and what exactly the Saudis have done — and how “U.S. officials did painfully little to confront the Saudis not only on financing terror but on backing fundamentalists and jihadists overseas.” Maybe this report will help bring about the long overdue adjustments in the U.S.-Saudi relationship.
