The mad mufti, with all his talk of jihad, seems to have awakened Australian authorities. From News.com.au, with thanks to Kevin and Jean-Luc:
THE Federal Government is planning tough new laws to punish and possibly even jail Australians who mix with terrorists.
The proposed laws would throw the spotlight on the activities of people such as Australia’s Muslim leader Sheik Taj El-Din El-Hilali who recently met chiefs of the outlawed Middle East terror group Hezbollah.
Attorney-General Philip Ruddock revealed yesterday that he had ordered his department to investigate “a potential offence of consorting with terrorist organisations”.
He said people caught under the proposed laws could include those who “might be running off to a training camp or playing paintball” in the Australian bush.
The laws would allow the Australian Federal Police to arrest high-profile figures allegedly linked to terrorist groups, but who denied belonging to the groups or giving them money.
