Jihad in suburban Paris. From AP, :
PARIS “” Authorities raided several suburban Paris neighborhoods Monday and detained 15 people in connection with a deadly terrorist attack in Morocco last year, police said.
DST, France’s domestic security agency, took the suspects in for questioning after carrying out raids in the northeastern suburb of Seine-Saint-Denis and in the eastern Yvelines region on orders of two French anti-terrorism judges, Jean-Louis Bruguiere and Jean-Francois Ricard.
Police said the operation was launched in connection with a series of near-simultaneous attacks in Casablanca, Morocco, that killed 33 bystanders and 12 homicide bombers on May 16, 2003.
About eight locations were targeted in the early morning raid in search of suspects “directly implicated” in the Casablanca attacks or those responsible for planting bombs, police said. Six women were among those detained.
The identities of the suspects were not released. Under French law, they can be held in detention for up to 96 hours without being formally placed under investigation.
Police said they so far have uncovered no evidence linking the suspects in France to the rail bombings in Madrid on March 11 that killed at least 191 people.
Fifteen suspects are in custody in the Madrid attacks. Six have been charged with mass murder and nine with collaborating with or belonging to a terrorist organization. Eleven of the 15 charged are Moroccan.
