This is noteworthy in light of the general rise of anti-Semitism in Europe. From Haaretz:
MADRID – Suspected Islamist terrorists who bombed four suburban trains in the Madrid region on March 11 also planned to attack a Jewish assembly house and cemetery, the Spanish daily El Mundo reported Tuesday.
Seven of the terrorists who killed 191 people blew themselves up when cornered by police in Leganes near Madrid on April 3.
Documents retrieved from the wreckage reveal that they were planning an attack against Jewish interests in Hoyo de Manzanares, a mountain village about 40 kilometers northwest of the capital.
The terrorists intended to target a Jewish cemetery and a country house which Madrid’s Jewish community uses to hold meetings.
They planned to blow up the uninhabited house, named Masada, during a large-scale meeting, according to police sources quoted by El Mundo.
Dozens of police have looked in vain for explosives in the area.
Suspected members of the Moroccan Islamic Combatant Group (GICM) planted more than 10 bombs on four commuter trains on March 11, killing 191 and injuring about 1,800 people in Spain’s deadliest terrorist attacks.
