A statement from Andrew Whitehead of Anti-CAIR:
On April 1st, 2004, I was sued by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) for libel. In the suit, CAIR asks for damages amounting to 1.3 million.
I am very pleased to announce that the firm Greenberg Traurig LLP, with offices throughout the United States and Europe, has agreed to represent me. On May 3rd, 2004, they filed a response to the CAIR suit that includes detailed counterclaims under state and federal law.
America, unique among nations, values and protects freedom of speech. This freedom is of particular importance when it comes to issues of public concern.
CAIR may not like what I have to say, and they are free to take issue with me in the marketplace of ideas, where everyday they take advantage of our Constitution. CAIR takes advantage of our freedom of speech, protected over the years by generations of servicemen and women to broadcast their radical message. However, they are not free to silence me.
This litigation is a battle I do not want, but is one we are going to fight, and I fully expect to win.
