Slavery and genocide in Sudan, much of which has been motivated by jihad ideology, is not a right/left or east/west issue but an injustice which must be the concern of all those who support universal human rights and the equality of dignity of all people.
Says Jane of the Armies of Liberation blog:
Nearly 1,000,000 Sudanese civilians have been driven from their homes and are vulnerable to attack, without food or shelter. The Sudan has blocked international organizations from assisting or even assessing the danger. Reports of murder, massacres, rape, mutilation, and kidnapping are well documented. Human trafficking and wide spread slavery are also on the official list of atrocities occurring daily in the Sudan.
Pro-government militias have a free hand in the slaughter of women and children, unless that hand is blocked by a virtual angry mob. It is urgent that we attempt to interpose ourselves between the slaughterers and the families they target.
Mobilizing as a political force, the blogsphere has already made an impact in the Spirit of America campaign, collecting over $40,000 in 5’s and 10’s. In this action, money is not required — only a click of protest. National and international bodies will take action when it is in their interest to do so. Let’s make it important.
