AMMAN “” A 25-year-old woman was shot and killed on Wednesday, reportedly by her cousin, while recovering in hospital after a Caesarean delivery, official sources said.
The victim received six gunshot wounds on different parts of her body, allegedly by her enraged cousin, who turned himself in to the authorities shortly after the incident.
The victim, who delivered a baby boy, died instantly after the bullets penetrated her heart, lung and stomach, according to medical sources.
The 36-year-old suspect told the authorities he killed his cousin to “cleanse his family’s honour,” the source told The Jordan Times.
The victim reportedly was involved with a married man for almost a year and became pregnant, the source explained.
She was admitted to hospital on Monday for delivery, the source added.
Her cousins learnt of her illegitimate pregnancy and decided to kill her, according to the source. …
The victim became the third person to be killed in the Kingdom this week in a so-called honour crime. She is reportedly the ninth person in Jordan this year to be killed in a murder related to family honour, according to official figures.
