Some time ago I reported here that Georgetown University’s Imam Yahya Hendi, who spoke at the Democratic National Convention, had some questionable connections: in particular, that he was involved with American Open University, which supported Sharia, and that he defended Sami Al-Arian. This morning I had a most interesting conversation with Imam Yahya Hendi, and he has asked that I put up the message below, which he sent to another website not long ago.
I am only interested in the truth at Jihad Watch (contrary to the claims of some critics, although they always quote posters and never seem to quote me), so I am glad to oblige.
I will be looking more deeply into these matters as circumstances allow.
Dear sir ,
Peace be with you.I pray that this message finds you in the best of health and spirits.
I also ask the Almighty one, our Creator, to protect you and always stay on your side with His Wisdom and love.I just came across your remarks regarding my prayers at the DNC. It really broke my heart and made me the saddest ever in my life because of the misunderstanding you showed of me. Please hear me with your heart as I try to open my heart to your heart as well.
It is my belief according to a great book I respect, the Holy Bible, that “the truth shall set you free.” The truth can liberate minds and give hope to the world.
I have always worked to bridge the gap between Judaism, Christianity and Islam. I have spoken against Osamah Ben laden and like wise. I have been and will continue to promote true respect of women in Muslim countries and the right of Christians to be fully equal under the law in those countries. I have traveled around the world in defence of American Jews. When ever I heard that there was an allegation accusing Jews of being behind the SEP/11 attacks, I went to just Say; “No, stop it” Jews suffered like every American. My statements in this regard are to be found in Arab and Muslims media. I am suffering in some circles in my community because of my views. Yet, willing to suffer for my country and my principles.
My life was threatened many times because of my views and I was called names like “traitor to Islam” and a “sellout” to Americans because I spoke in attack of those who dare to attack America. I still can not travel to some of those countries out of fear for my life.
I did work for CAIR for about two years when I was looking for job and never told that CAIR is a terrorist group. I was asked to testify as “An Expert witness” On Islam and not as a “charactor witness” for ! Al-Arian. Actually, I was asked if I knew him very well, and I remember saying not much.
I never ever became a student with the American open Univesity though at one point I did apply for their program and was admitted.
I had hoped that you called me to ask first before writing what you wrote. I have expected to hear a helpful voice to give me more ground to fight the dangerous extreme view within my community and around the world not that you become just and echo of misinformation.
Take care and God bless you.
Imam Yahya Hendi
Georgetown University
I am all for fighting the dangerous extreme within the Islamic community, and will be following up with Imam Yahya Hendi.
