But of course. From SA:
Cairo – Suicide car bombings that killed 30 people in Iraq over the last two days were the work of a terrorist group linked to al-Qaeda, according to a claim posted on the web on Tuesday.
The authenticity of the statement, signed Tawhid and Jihad and posted on a website known for militant Muslim comment, could not be independently authenticated.
In a passage that raised questions about the authenticity, the same statement also claimed responsibility for a purported suicide bombing on Sunday in Latifiyah, near Baghdad, that it said killed more than 50 Iraqi police and US soldiers. There was no confirmation such an attack had occurred….
Tawhid and Jihad, whose name evokes the Islamic tenets of monotheism and holy war, has claimed responsibility for scores of suicide bombings that targeted American soldiers, Iraqi senior officials, and police stations and recruitment centres. The group has also claimed responsibility for kidnapping and killing foreign hostages, posting images of the killings on the Internet.
Tawhid and Jihad is believed led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, a former commander for al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden.
