Paul Weyrich, one of the few figures in Washington willing to tell the truth about jihad terrorism, does it again in this commentary from CNSNews.com:
Events in Russia and Israel provide just one more sign of what the West faces from Islamic extremism. They provide an unfortunate reminder of the interest on the part of al Qaeda to bring mayhem to our nation during the election season of our own country.
That may or may not prove to be the case. Let us hope and pray it is not, but we must be prepared for whatever may come, something that the Russians and the Israelis know better than we do….
This election there will be a great deal of talk about the economy or education or welfare reform. They are all very important issues and I expect that I will be discussing them, too.
But the most paramount issue facing this country, and it may not be explored in the depth and detail it deserves this fall, is whether our country and its people are truly prepared to deal with a much more hostile world and an Islamic world in which extremists are intent on seizing the upper hand.
The threat does not come just from al Qaeda, not when there are organizations such as Hamas equally bent on inflicting the same kind of bloodshed and havoc on our country and its people, whether that means attacking our own shores or launching attacks on Americans overseas.
We confront a dangerous enemy and it is one which would count the loss of our own freedom as one of its most prized victims. Once more we as a country are called to rise to the challenge in the same way our forefathers were at Lexington, Gettysburg and Normandy Beach, fighting for freedom and liberty — no doubt most were fortified by a belief in a God who is demanding yet just and merciful.
Only time will tell if we are truly prepared to grapple with an enemy driven by the fervently held view of a vengeful, unmerciful Allah, who demands total submission of “unbelievers,” particularly Christians and Jews.
