Islamabad, Dec 7 (UNI) Pakistan’s religious clerics refused a piece of land for burial to a blasphemy convict in a Muslim graveyard in southeastern city of Bahawalnagar, the Daily Times today said.
Bashir Ahmad, who had been convicted in the Bahawalnagar blasphemy case in August last year, was found dead under mysterious conditions in the local central jail a few days ago.
When Ahmad’s relatives tried to bury him in a graveyard on Sunday evening, an angry mob of people led by clerics took to the streets and did not allow the burial to take place, saying a blasphemer could not be buried in a Muslim graveyard.
The district administration, however, prevented the situation from deteriorating and asked Ahmad’s family to bury him on their private land, the Daily Times reported.
