The role of the Bhopal police is in question after the police violated an order given by a court asking for the Hindu wife to be returned to her Muslim husband.
The woman — 30-year-old Anima Srivastav was forced to return home, leaving her husband Shariq Siddiqi, after immense parental pressure and some support from the police.
This despite a legal order issued by the Bhopal Sub Divisional Magistrate which directed that she be allowed to live with her legal husband — Shariq Siddiqi.
In fact, even after receiving the order, the police took Anima from her marital home to the police station and after seven hours of alleged browbeating, she agreed to go home — a violation that has taken the administration by surprise….
Anima Srivastav and Shariq were married on November 22 after Shariq converted to Hinduism. But merely four days after the marriage, the police picked up Anima on a complaint filed by her parents.
It was only after her husband filed a counter complaint that Anima was allowed to make a statement in court on January 3. But Shariq says he hasn’t given up yet even though the police played a partisan role.
