A LIVE performance by stars from the Arab reality TV show, Star Academy, is going ahead at a new venue and under a different name, sources told the GDN yesterday.
Islamist MPs had tried to block the show, but sources said the Information Ministry gave it the go-ahead after seeking assurances from organisers.
It is understood those behind the event have promised it will be “decent” and respect the teachings of Islam.
As such, sources said performers would dress conservatively to ensure nobody is offended.
They added there would be a separate family area in the audience so that single men and women are not mixed together…
It is said the venue was changed to avoid a repeat of violence that marred a concert by Lebanese singer Nancy Ajram in October 2003.
Rioters went on the rampage outside that event, claiming the singer was provocative and against Islam.
One of the concerns was that the event, which went ahead at the BIEC, was too close to a residential area…
