From Expatica, “Terror suspect ‘returned to’ Netherlands,” with thanks to Dutch Cares
AMSTERDAM — Wanted by police, a main suspect of the alleged terror network Hofstadgroep reportedly visited Muslim friends in the Netherlands last month.
Nouredine el F. fled the country on 1 November, the day prior to the murder of Theo van Gogh last year.
Telephone calls bugged by security service AIVD indicate he was in Belgium earlier this year, newspaper ‘De Volkskrant’ reported on Friday.
Sources also claim that Samir A. visited El F. in Belgium shortly after being acquitted on 6 April in Rotterdam of planning terrorist attacks in the Netherlands.
El F. is allegedly linked to Mohammed B., the suspected killer of Van Gogh, and other members of the Hofstadgroep.
He was briefly arrested last year on the eve of the European soccer championships in Portugal, but sources told the Volkskrant that he later travelled with a false passport to his native Morocco.
According to an AIVD memo included in a confidential prosecution dossier, El F. is believed to have returned to Europe earlier this year. He called a friend in the Netherlands from a telephone box in Belgium on 14 February,
He had a clandestine conversation with Rafet G., who allegedly helped smuggle the alleged spiritual leader of the Hofstadgroep, Syrian Abu Khaled, out of the country on the day of Van Gogh’s murder.
G. has told police that Abu Khaled, or Abu Bilal, has a hundred followers in the Netherlands. They do exactly what he says because they believe they will enter Heaven…
