“Possible threat at Tinker spawns action at RAFB” From the Macon Telegraph, with thanks to the One Who Must Not Be Named.
ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE – Robins Air Force Base officials have confirmed that a possible security threat at Tinker Air Force Base, Okla., earlier this month has energized local law enforcement agencies.
Tinker spokeswoman Lt. Candice Adams said late Thursday that suspicious activity did occur July 14 at the Oklahoma City installation, although she would not describe the nature of the incident. Several Web sites, as well as syndicated columnist Michelle Malkin, have reported that three Middle Eastern men with binoculars, cameras and what appeared to be a rocket launcher were seen on that date.
Adams referred all questions to the Oklahoma City FBI office. Gary Johnson, the bureau spokesman, said his office thoroughly investigated the incident and “found no credible threat.” When asked if that meant the reports were invalid, he said, “We don’t provide interpretation.”
Although the sighting remains questionable, base officials say they reacted quickly to a notification from Air Force Materiel Command, the parent agency for both Tinker and Robins.
William Schupp Jr., commander and Office of Special Investigations agent in charge at Robins, said the notification came in the form of an OSI Talon message.
“It was directed from AFMC and it recommended that we take a look,” he said.
He and other base law enforcement members zeroed in on an area immediately north of the base. “We had talked about something like that happening here and the most logical place would be north of the base – around the Kohl’s warehouse and the fields near there,” he said. “South and east of the base is nothing but swamp, big swamp. If someone wants to wade through the gators and the cottonmouths then good on them.”…
