It used to be that England was where American travelers who didn’t like to travel would go: it was safe, and they spoke English. Most still speak English there, but it isn’t safe. From AP, :
WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. State Department has warned Americans to maintain “a high level of vigilance” while living or traveling in Britain, following the bombings in London last month….
Although London Metropolitan Police have made several arrests and stepped up security on public transportation, investigators warn that “the threat remains, and is very real,” the U.S. agency said in a written statement issued Wednesday.
“U.S. citizens are advised to maintain a high level of vigilance, take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness and exercise caution in public places or while using public transportation,” the department said.
The agency also urged U.S. citizens to cooperate with British authorities in their investigations.
“Terrorists do not distinguish between official and civilian targets,” the department said. “Terrorist actions may include bombings, hijackings, hostage-taking, kidnappings and assassinations.”
