“7 Algerians jailed in British terror sweep,” from UPI, :
In coordinated raids, police in London and Manchester Thursday detained seven Algerian nationals under the country’s immigration laws.
“We can confirm that early today the Immigration Service detained seven individuals in accordance with the home secretary’s powers to deport individuals whose presence in (Britain) is not conducive to the public good for reasons of national security,” a Home Office statement said.
The men were not arrested, but were being held in “secure prison service accommodation,” the statement said.
Sources told the BBC some of those held were among eight men cleared in April of involvement in a plot to place the poison ricin on urban British streets.
