Why is Russia is aiding the global jihad?
In the Russian-funded Boomerang Department, surely what takes the cake is the Russian help extended to Iran’s little science project. Does Russia, a country which was once under the Tartar Yoke and which is now filling up with Muslims — despite having let go of all five Central Asian -Stans in one fell drunken stupor (that of Yeltsin, who when last heard from was at last resting comfortably, still unaware of what he had done) — realize the implications of either an Iranian nuclear capability, or the changing demography of Russia itself? Some of these new Russians are, of course, post-basmachi “Muslim-for-identification-purposes-only” variety, but some, alas, are of the “I’m-rediscovering-real-Islam” kind — and we know what that means.
Take a stroll around Moscow. Go out to Ostankino, to the lesser parts. Go to the markets. Take a guess as to the Muslim population of Russia today, in 2010, in 2020, and in 2030. If you are interested in the fate of Russia, in Russia that even under Communism, note that Russia managed to preserve enough free inquiry to keep science alive, even when art became moribund when the writers who had not gone into exile — some just in the nick of time (how nice of Gorky to help Khodasevich leave for Paris) — either were killed (Mandelshtam, Babel) or committed suicide (Esenin in the Hotel Astoria, Tsvetaeva where — Taganrog? Tarusa? I can’t remember), or were threatened or persecuted into silence, or found themselves forced into such safe activities as translation from the Georgian and the Armenian and the Lithuanian, or writing children’s books (Ouch–it hurts just to think of, but if you were a kid, from say 2 to 5, ot dvukh do pyati, literary life was good).
Remember also that Russia once seized part of northern Iran. Who knows? Perhaps the Russians will become inspired again to imitate General Yermolov, this time — unlike in 1946 — without the Americans stopping them, and perhaps even egging them on. And if the Russians ever get a chance to seize Tsargrad (Constantinople) as they once had wished to — well, in bocca a lupo, boys, and remember that Alexander was indeed Great, but please don’t break the chairs.
Are the Russians nuts? What are they doing helping Iran? Do they really think that this will in long run advance their interests? Does the prospect of the islamization of all the sites important to Christianity and the Western world, including the world of Orthodox Slavs, not faze them? Does the reintroduction of dhimmitude in the Holy Land mean nothing to them, or are they overlooking that little matter in their indifference to the fate of the Jewish state? And their meddling in Uzbekistan, just to show that they rule the roost in the near abroad and can thereby give Captain America his well-deserved comeuppance — does that make sense? Pavel Felgengauer doesn’t think so. I don’t think so. What more do you need? This constant worrying about American power, this fear and resentment of a supposedly diabolical United States, when the United States government hardly knows where to put its feet and hands and is falling all over itself emptying its pockets to pay jizya in Iraq, in Pakistan, in Egypt, in malevolent-but-smiling-king-faced Jordan, and of course to the newly-hatched “Palestinian people”? This allegedly satanic U.S. also has no idea what to do to wage an ideological campaign — does Russia have any ideas left over from the Basmachi rebellion days that it cares to impart to the Americans, who probably don’t yet have set up an anti-Jihad propaganda center, and may never dare to have one?
A whole lot of dumbness going around. A natural alliance that instead becomes — what, exactly? Russia helps Iran with nuclear know-how, America spends hundreds of billions helping to change the regime, and then to “rebuild” wonderful Iraq. At the moment wonderful Iraqis in newly re-islamized and therefore even more wonderful Basra are demanding an “apology” from the British government and “compensation” for families of those killed or wounded in the British effort to free two of their own men. The British should refuse, should leave, and so, for god’s sake, should the big lumbering, free-spending, inarticulate, un-cunning, unsly, devout believer in the “onward march of freedom” and in the assumption that if we only give them everything (creating those “cantons of prosperity” is now all the rhetorical rage in some circles) they will drop their support (what support?) of Al-Qaeda. But they won’t drop their support of Islam, and out of Islam comes everything: Al-Qaeda, Hezbollah, Hamas, Lashkar-e-Toiba, Lashkar-e-Jaungvi, Gemaaa islamiyya — go ahead and list another ten dozen groups, all over the world. Remember that behind those groups are hundreds of millions of people who believe that the main division, the permanent division in the world is between Believer and Infidel, dar al-Islam and dar al-harb; no amount of Infidel-funded prosperity, of little zones just humming with security and economic activity, will in the slightest diminish the long-term and worldwide threat of Islam — a threat that everyone and his brother insists on not investigating, not studying, and pretending that if we pretend it isn’t there, it won’t be.
But it will be. It is. And how.
