BEIJING (AP) – Chinese police have warned of a possible attack by Islamic extremists on luxury hotels in China over the next week, the U.S. Embassy in Beijing said Wednesday.
The warning, posted on the Embassy website, urged Americans visiting such hotels to “review their plans carefully, remain vigilant with regard to their personal security, and exercise caution.”
U.S. President George W. Bush is due to visit Beijing on Nov. 19-21, which comes just after the period cited in the warning.
“The Embassy has learned that Chinese police advised hotels that Islamic extremist elements could be planning to attack four and five star hotels in China sometime over the course of the next week,” the U.S. notice said.
