And the violence continues to spread. Why don’t the French react forcefully before the whole country is destroyed? Or is this another Maginot-Line collapse of the French national will? From EuroNews, with thanks to Gabrielle Goldwater:
In France a synagogue, warehouses, car showroom and a supermarket have been torched in the ninth consecutive night of violence.
Police say the pattern of destruction has changed, with gangs of youths now making more targeted arson attacks.
Over 750 cars were reportedly set on fire.
In Seine-Saint-Denis near Paris, where the trouble broke out after the accidental death of two men hiding from police, the situation was relatively calm.
But, worrying authorities further, is the spread of violence to the regions….
The French prime minister has met young people and community leaders from the hardest-hit areas in a bid to calm the situation.
