So say Muslim leaders and scholars in Hyderabad. This would be great were it not for the fact that “injustice” has historically been understood by Muslims as including the mere fact of rule by non-Muslims, or the absence of Muslim political power in a given polity. From the Times of India, with thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist:
HYDERABAD: The concept of jihad was explained by Muslim religious leaders and scholars at gatherings held at various places in the city on the occasion of Milad-un-Nabi, birthday of the Prophet.
“Jihad is advised only to protest against an act of injustice or suppression Islam neither supports nor encourages war but it does not tolerate injustice or harassment. When Muslims are in danger or wrongfully attacked, Jihad has to be observed,”said Moulana M A Rahim Qureshi spokesperson of Muslim Personal Law Board and Tameer-a-Millat chief.
He was addressing a gathering at the exhibition grounds.Qureshi said the concept of jihad however has been ‘corrupted’and is being used for wrong reasons.
“Muslims should believe in jihad till eternity,”Qureshi said. He said jihad should never be associated with aggressiveness and it should not be used as a tool to harm innocent people.
Great. Define “innocent.”
